A lot of people in the comment section seem to think that borp's statement is that techskill is bad. It's not, no one would argue that. What borp does is show how far fighting game fundamentals can get you in smash. When it comes to game sense, borp is probably smarter than 90% of you, and no amount of techskill is going to replace that. So many low and mid-level players "lose sight of the forest for the trees". They get so caught up in trying to execute their tech that they practically lose the purpose of using it.

I really like Borp. He shows that it is possible to make it decent competitive or tournament wise without much tech skill. I really don't get why people say hes unskilled or whatever, because hes not. Its his unconventional methods and his really good reads that throws his opponent off guard. Don't get me wrong, I like tech skill, but sometimes people like Borp give me a break from seeing the ordinary (but not less impressive) waveshine/wavedash to up-smash/2-3 shines etc. I will state it again, in case I get bombarded by the tech-skill circlejerkers, I really like tech skill, but Borp brings something completely fresh, but basic to a highly competitive scene.

GeneralErlend I actually head that he DESTROYED some kid with Marth. Like, made him leave the venue. But Marth, like Sheik, is a beginner character that required marginal techskill to play well, albeit more than Sheik, but very little all the same. Marth relies on wavedashing for spacing and mindgames, and also some other Marth jank stuff like Reversu Up B edgeguards. I think it would be very interesting to watch how he plays the character.

Steve Why is it that his fox is so bad then, or even worse, has no other good characters in general? Hbox has just mastered the techskill of the character, which is very miniature. Im sure that all the top 10 in the world have a good fox. Hbox however, no. Mango, Armada, Leffen, PPMD, M2K, Plup, SFAT, Axe, Westballz: all have good foxes. Hbox has just great fundamentals and understanding of his character, and is consistent with all her setups. Tech skill really isn't what makes Hbox as good as he is

I mean, sometimes it's cool like when watching yoshi vs fox or sheik, but not when the said low tier has either an even or advantageous matchup against a top tier. Watching samus vs fox isn't fun because samus can just shoot missles and kill fox once he's off stage, and fox is forced to camp because samus can crouch cancel a lot of his stuff. So whenever people cheer for samus in that matchup, I start to get sick.

I do believe that Borp can wavedash, but he purposefully doesn't wavedash during matches because it is like he is trying to prove a point that good players don't need to be a textbook smasher who wavedashes and chaingrabs and practices the same combo for hours until they can always do the same thing. Borp's playstyle is very frustrating to those textbook smashers because it is so simple, but he reads so well at the same time. He does win matches though, so if the playstyle ain't broke, don't fix it.

I get the hype, but people need to keep in mind that Sheik is the easiest character to play competitively. I never practice with her, and she does almost as well as my main. Super long hitboxes, she gets a ton off of grabs, invulnerable *and* damaging recovery, projectile with a lot of stun that can gimp, and she has the easiest combos in the game with her dash attack and tilts.
