To break it down for people here's the how (not the why): Invisible ceiling glitch (ICG) is activated for as long as luigi is in the air/hitstun from getting hit out of a grounded attack that hit his opponent's shield. Abate dsmashed S2J's shield and S2J reacts by kneeing, thus activating the ICG. If you notice abate here gets bounced on stage, but IIRC the "bounce" animation does not count as hitting the ground yet. Abate slides off the stage with some DI and instantly activates his side-b, which S2J stomps but abate was still under the effects of ICG at a time when the effects of the ICG were just enough to canceling stomp's vertical knockback all together, thus abate just "froze" in mid-air. TLDR: Double invisible ceiling glitch.

no one's noticing the other side of this glitch's effect: abate got sent directly outward by that knee because of it. no way would he have been in that position had the glitch not kept him from moving vertically. in the end, the game was ended prematurely because of the glitch, but in no way was abate the inferior player here. he was vastly ahead in percentage and the game in that sense was in abate's favor, though it could have gone either way.

ICG is only supposed to occur when you are hit while you have velocity from hitting someone's shield (also Marth and Roy's counters, for reasons still unknown). This would have affected S2J's knee, but I don't see how it would have affected the stomp. Could the missed tech have reset the shield pushback?

The final result was a 3-2 win for Abate, in which the last kill was a total glitch in the system and should've been S2J's win... I don't see how S2J got outplayed or out skilled. Sure there were times when Abate was doing better and he won 2 sets at first, but S2J brought the pressure right back and it went down to the final set.

+iiTekuhno Actually it's a glitch that can be replicated. I believe the conditions are to (at least in this video): Luigi down smashes Falcon's shield, Luigi jumps to avoid contact with the floor, Falcon sends him off stage, Luigi edge cancelled the corner so he didn't technically touch the floor (with standing animation I'm assuming but not necessary step), and Falcon stomps triggering the glitch making the physics think Luigi hit the floor instead of death making him continue regular fall speed instead of meteor.

As much as Abate got lucky on that stomp, I think he deserved to win. He could've meteor cancelled it and could still have won. But the main reason I say this is that, overall, he played the set much better, considering how close the games were and the match up advantage for Falcon.

To everyone saying the invisible ceiling glitch was complete dumb luck in Abate's favor, I'd like to throw something out there. Anyone who has played for a little while in Pittsburgh (which used to be/still kinda is the city of the Luigis) knows that most of the top players there are hyper aware of the invisible ceiling glitch. You can even watch a PGH Carroll Combo video where he abuses it for style/disrespect. These players will intentionally choose options that have the potential to lead into the glitch as a sort of back-up for defense. I mean look below at what the conditions are for the glitch to happen, they aren't that uncommon, especially when you know about it. My point is that Abate most likely had the glitch in mind (not that he wanted to get kneed off stage). The crazy part of this, and why Abate looks so surprised, is that after getting kneed and lifted in the air, once Luigi touches the ground the glitch should be deactivated. But if you look closely, Luigi actually edge cancels on his way off stage. And apparently, edge cancels do not "count" to deactivate the glitch. I don't think Abate knew this (although who knows). Additionally, he may be surprised that S2J 1) stomped instead of a different, non meteor-cancellable option and 2) fast-fell when he didn't need to and essentially kill himself. So I'm definitely NOT trying to say that the invisible ceiling glitch was some elaborate play by Abate and that he was in control all time. I'm also not trying to say that the glitch isn't janky or that this isn't at all "lucky" for Abate. But to the people saying that the Melee gods just reached down from the heavens and bestowed a win randomly, that Abate didn't deserve the W, that NO ONE except for 3 nerds on Reddit knew what was happening, or that this is some feature akin to Brawl tripping and Melee is therefore broken and not as skill-based as people say... it's not that random and it's not "unfair." It's just batshit wild.

If you slow the video to .25 times speed, you'll see Luigi slightly rise up after being knee'd then abruptly hits the stage before falling off. So it is more than likely invisible ceiling. But what confuses me is that I thought invisible ceiling only lasted until you hit the ground, and you can see Abate hit the edge of the stage before going off of it. Can someone explain?
