You just gave me a new perspective on why my marriage ended. Our vision of the future, the ideals we were committed to as a couple, raising a family changed when he decided to join Scientology against my wise counsel, advice & admonition the kids & I would not be joining him on that path. I’ve always felt responsible, guilty for being the one to ask for a divorce after he continued to get deeper & deeper involved, not seeing him for weeks on end. I shouldn’t be carrying that guilt when he’s the one who lost sight of the vision & commitment we made. Thank you!

Sometimes divorce is the only way to save lives. When people marry, they sign up to a vision, a shared family, a shared community. As soon as one of the parties to the vision finds an "alternative vision" that is not compatible with the original plan, you can only hold on for so long. Your kids were lucky that you had the strength to get out.

Thank you Rabbi Jacobson for your so powerful talkings, ideas and kindness. I met my soulmate a bit more than one year ago. I think I really understand what you said about the common vision about something higher than human condition, which doesn't prevent from everyday little problems BUT that mutual transcendental perspective protects us and makes us grow up together under its, or his, or her greatness. Once again, you put the right words that allow the light to come in so thank you so much.

I have listened to many religious talks or 'sermons' if you like to call them that. I have forgotten most of the messages contained in them but hope and expect that I will remember the message here of the fourth dimension of a relationship being a vision. Thank you Rabbi Simon Jacobson.

If anyone is interested, how about a psycho-spiritual explanation; the spirit/consciousness is whole and complete when not taking a form or body. When it takes form as a male or female body, spirit mistakes itself for the form/body it is "in." The spirit vs the flesh -- a well-known conundrum. Spirit/consciousness in a male body tends to disregard the aspects of itself that are feminine as puberty nears. This creates a desire in the now-split mind to reunite with its disregarded feminine aspects, which creates desire to be in physical union with someone who embodies the polar aspects (and vice versa for women). Spirit in a male body forgets its own feminine aspects and desires to reunite with them. However, it's all a bit of a play because we (eternal spirit) are not the forms that we take and are not split. These bodies are not what we (spirit) are. A mystic might seek to rectify this and realize innate wholeness through inner spiritual practice and aestheticism rather than seek false and representative union through sex.

(1) Yes, absolutely, there are everlasting, loving ("romantic") husband-wife unions. I have myself witnessed more than a few. But these are rare! Today, they are rare! And what makes them both stand out (as described by Rabbi Simon in this talk) is that BOTH spouses are (a) Keen to have such a union (b) Devoted to each other (c) United in their faith & faith practice - even if one is more enthusiastic about the spiritual culture of the home than the other, both are committed equally to maintaining it, both are willing participants, neither mocks the other or in any makes light of deeply-held convictions. In fact, 1 of the things I have noticed about the Strongest Marriages is that there is No Mockery, no teasing at all, not of any kind! There is merriment, certainly, but it is never at the expense of any family member. (2) If you want to have one of these everlasting, mutually devoted unions, there are certain steps you must take. (A) Cultivate good manners. Hold yourself to a higher standard of behaviour with your spouse and family, than with others who are not family, who may be clients, or colleagues - but not family. Draw that distinction. Use appropriate language; do not let filth & insults become part of your daily discourse. The converse is also true: Do Not Tolerate Bad Manners in a spouse. The example cited by the Rabbi from that book on communication would never have happened to anyone in any of my families (original, current, extended, nuclear). Why? Because it was exceptionally bad manners for the wife to demand to leave that dinner, or to sit there seething because her husband had something to say to dinner company. Do NOT get married, do NOT get engaged if you are NOT prepared to be very well-mannered (read Miss Manners! She's superb! So is the Emily Post dynasty!) and don't know how to Lighten Up! LIGHTEN UP! You do not belong in any marriage if you imagine you are the be-all and end-all of Creation, the Center of the Universe, the only human being with rights, including the right to occasionally have an awkward moment or a lapse in judgement. Everyone has those rights! Don't get married (or live together) if you are not prepared to change how you operate in order to make room for that extra person to share your experiences with you. Teach your children Good Manners and Demand Good Manners from suitors. Do not stick around giving lots of extra chances to someone who is fundamentally rude, a boor, a bully, discourteous, ungracious - or eats like a slob. Just save yourself the pain and regret for wasting a lot of time, money. And if your manners are not the best, because no one ever taught you? Take a class! These exist! (3) Shared activities are wonderful. They enhance relationships. Choose wisely. If only one of you enjoys cooking, and the other does not wish to be taught, agree that the one that doesn't want to help cook will sit alongside for that 1 hour a week - as just one example - to read aloud, or be the D.J., or plan the next week... Whatever useful activity. Take the time to play together with children/grandchildren. Uno is a great game to play as a family. Walks (in suitable weather) are excellent exercise. But the activity more couples would get the most out of, if they would only bother to try, is Dancing. There's a lot of different kinds of dancing, including Folk dancing, English country dancing, square dancing, tango dancing, waltzing, polka dancing, swing/Lindy/ballroom/tap, etc. If you invest some time into dancing together, while you are still young and move easily, before you know it you will be the most admired couple at any wedding - including your own children's, if you have kids. People often leave dancing for the end of their life, when they should be making the effort to go dancing - or dance at home - at least a couple of times a month. You won't have a warm-and-fuzzy-cozy-chummy-yummy marriage if you don't bother to invest some time (and money) in shared activities that are (A) less demanding and high-pressure than sex, that can be hard, especially for women, for lots of reasons, many of which have to do with their unique ovarian cycles, the pressures of having children (whether you have them already or not), CRAZY media messages about women's bodies that leave most women in pain or hating themselves (B) physical and relaxing (C) special: by definition not routine, not drudgery, not crowded with other participants. If you can figure that part out, you will have a successful marriage. If you don't, you will wind up with a lot of anger, pain, recrimination & quite possibly a divorce. Divorce is expensive, too. And it is upsetting. So maybe save yourself the trouble of going through a divorce, by NOT MARRYING, or not marrying someone you wouldn't want to get dressed up and go dancing with, a couple of times a month! Or spend an annual month-long holiday alone with, doing stuff in a foreign country that you do not normally do! MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. For those who know how to be Friendly, Polite, Enthusiastic, Loving, Welcoming, Tolerant, Patient, marriage will work out just fine if they take the time to actually Study the person they are considering Courting (getting to know). Don't get sexually intimate for at least the first 10 dates. Get to know her or him! Look beyond the passport photo, the CV, the business card, the asset portfolio... Get to know the person before you start getting undressed, that way you won't have to be embarrassed if you choose to not proceed after you discover just how much your 'intended' gambles, or drinks, or spends money on Botox, or chews gum, or torments animals, or how often s/he is hungover. Don't waste your own time or the other person's time. Stay away from Schopenhauer! It's all nonsense, the idea that people "procreate exactly the same way polar bears do." What do those brainiacs actually know about the inner life of a polar bear? A whale? Whalesong is real: what is it about? There is much that we shall never know, whereas the truth is that No One ought to marry a stranger, vilify their in-laws, feel desperately Alone & Unloved while being the Mother or Father of a large household. LOVE EXISTS. Only marry the kind of people that believe in a Selfless Love, and live their life accordingly. Everyone else is just a waste of your energy and time, no matter how wealthy, no matter how sexy, no matter how well-recommended by anyone else. YOU are the person who is going to be in that relationship, so YOU need to be satisfied that you are not selling your own freedom down the river for a manipulative piece of work.

I believe that after a great deal of thought, the "string" theory may help in understanding whatever we need to understand. When I place a string on the floor and my 🐈 cat watches it move as I pull it, it causes a cause and effect event that results in my amusement and laughter and creates hunting skills for my clueless but beautiful cat. This is MY "string" theory.

This is one of the few Rabbis, and I've heard quite a few in my lifetime, that I can actually listen to, even if I don't agree with him all the time. You can feel his connection to the spiritual dimension - the warmth in word and energy - and while I see things quite differently to him (such as free will, where my experience aligns with Einstein) there's a lot of common ground.

Plato's Symposium mentions a creature that was man and woman co-joined. The gods, threatened by this creature, separated man from woman. Our desire is to reunite with our separated other half. This is similar in many ways to the Adam and Eve story.

Humans can't love entirely and do not honestly know what Love is or how to love. It is unexplainable. Love and light always. Everything experienced here transcends in one form or the other. Everything we can see with our naked eyes is an illusion. Nothing here is eternal.

...well, i think you should not take it as two seperat theories. You have to think them together at the same time. Like: Yes, it makes sence that mating is a function of preservation of the species and therefor love has a purpose...b u t it is nevertheless r e a l love. "Selfish" love can be "real" love. In fact there is no other kind of love, or better said: every "selfless" love has it´s "starting point" in "selfish" love you can´t seperate the two of them. That love and careing for each other has a function, does not mean that it isn´t real love. I think the creator made the world like this, that the most fundamental drive of the living is working through love.

They do court and have rituals. Birds and insects. They dance they play songs with legs or what ever. some bring gifts. Some build a house for the mating. I think birds build houses and the women pick the houses that are best built. So if you want to keep breeding men got to keep dancing every once in a while. when stuff goes cold men got to shake there tail feathers to spice it up.they have to court them again like.

I personally feel that it's vibration and frequency that attracts us to others. Some people find themselves married & trying to fulfill the man made "till death do us part", then they meet their Vibrational match & wonder why they are suddenly no longer happy in their marriage. Jmo 💕

Well it's always exciting when you are caught off gaurd by someone like at first sight but I'm wondering what you mean by vibration and frequency in example if you don't mind ? I'm just thinking impressed by an action or having similar interests revealed in conversation? It's just that exiting a relationship because you found someone else is like blaming him for not being enough and say you find yourself existing in a marriage again? It's always on man it seems.
