(@28:00) Looking in my core book I only see the following special Volkus rules "Condensed Stronghold" affecting shooting, "Garrisoned Stronghold" affecting fight dice resolution, and "Door Fight" which requires a door.

22:52 you say “nob’s on a conceal not a valid target”. Is this the case for vantage terrain always? Or if the nob was closer to the edge and the marine was far enough away, where cover lines could be drawn without the floor intervening, would it then be a valid target?

At 26:25, with the nob obscured and in cover, does it mean that the marine as well is obscured (but not in cover)?
@GlassHalfDead2 күн бұрын
Yes, that's right. Unless his 1" control range goes fully through that heavy terrain, he cannot shoot through it without it counting as intervening terrain
@andreashuber55942 күн бұрын
@@GlassHalfDead that whole part seems to be wrong. Neither operative should be obscured. "An operative is obscured if there’s intervening Heavy terrain that’s more than 1” from both operatives. However, it cannot be obscured by intervening Heavy terrain that’s within 1” of either operative." Nowhere in this sentence does it state that "the part of the terrain that is within control range, is ignored for the purpose of obscurement" it says "heavy terrain within 1" " that's the entirety of that terrain. not just a part of it. I have no idea why people are using the 2nd edition interpretation of cover/obscuring in this one instance suddenly. and even back then it stated "The intended target is more than from a point at which a Cover line crosses a terrain feature that is Obscuring (see Terrain Traits). However, if the active operative is within of a point at which a Cover line crosses a terrain feature that is Obscuring, that part of the terrain feature is not treated as Obscuring." In this interpretation only the "parts" of the terrain feature were ignored. Now it just says "terrain" that means the whole damn thing. if that is, as you said, how it is played at top tables, can you point out to me where i'm wrong. cause that makes no sense to me at all.

There is one edge case that im curious to hear your opinion on. What if you are both on the stronghold vantages but not within control range of the wall shooting each other through the windows on the first level of each stronghold. The rule is neither are obscured right? because the obscuring terrain is connected to the vantage? Thats how my friend and I play it but it feels kinda odd. We were kinda of the mindset that that rule was intended for vantage to ground and vise versa but i mean i could also see it as a balancing factor for the benefits of vantage.

Me and my friends have a much better understanding of the game now thank you!! @@justaguyperson yea, you both roll and alternate resolving your dice results. So sometimes as the attacker it might make more sense to parry first

@@hugheja89 I know I just hate the melee system. Parrying should be reactionary. "Do you use one of your dice to parry their attack or save it to do damage to them?" sort of deal. I don't like the idea of needing to take damage needlessly, just puts melee teams at a disadvantage
@hugheja892 күн бұрын
@ I actually really like the melee system for killteam. And generally melee teams have much better profiles that do more damage and have some tricks
@GlassHalfDead2 күн бұрын
I hear a lot of people want melee to be reactionary, but I think that would actually be quite bad. BECAUSE, if you think it through, if melee was reactionary then the best option would ALWAYS be pure dice and whoever rolled more hits would win as the best option would ALWYAS be to fully parry the enemy, and so melee would go from being really lethal to being a pillow fight.

I thought if he’s within 1 inch of heavy terrain then he gets cover and if he’s more than 1 inch away from heavy terrain then he can get obscured. How it’s it possible to get both? Edit : specifically on the last example
@hugheja892 күн бұрын
@@kylethompson2199 bc obscurity is from the first point the line hits the terrain, and cover is just if the terrain is in control range. So in the example the terrain is quite thick so the point where the cover lines first hits the terrain is where obscurity is measured from and it is more than 1” away. If that makes sense.

great video, helped a lot. Personally I think that getting obscured and cover from the same piece of terrain doesn't make sense, obscured for imagination reasons is explained as shooting through a distant window or similar, and when you are right next to that window, you aren't obscured. if any part of the terrain is in control range, you are in cover, if there is a second piece of terrain that is intervening, then you are also obscured, but it requires two separate pieces of terrain to do so. This isn't the exact rules of the game but it is how me and my friends play, if others read this and want to use this as a rule, go ahead, I don't have it patented... yet lol

Thanks so much for this video. The Volkus stronghold terrain is confusing for me as a new player. In the rule book it says that the upper levels of the strongholds are vantage terrain which is light terrain only, so I've been discounting the upper battlements of the strongholds as "not heavy" which is what I've seen others do as well. I've taken it to mean that anything connected to vantage terrain cannot be heavy terrain no matter how chunky it appears. But at 22:00 you reckon that the marine doesn't have a valid target because the Nob is concealed and behind heavy terrain and now I'm confused all over again :D Am I missing something??
@GlassHalfDead2 күн бұрын
Yes, I've seen this mentioned as well, hence why I SPECIFICALLY pointed it out in one of the examples and noted that the stronghold walls are heavy whilst the ruins are light for battlements. I can't add anything to your discussion. If we read the same paragraphs and come out with different interpretations, I'm just going to tell you to do whatever you feel like doing. However, page 60 lays out what vantage is. Page 61 lays out what the stronghold is. Page 61 lays out what a large ruin is. Nothing in any of these rules should make you think the battlements in a stronghold are Light. Vanatage point = FLOOR. Has nothing to do with the surrounding walls connected to it (which are specifically labelled as Heavy). For the LARGE RUIN it specifically calls out the battlements as being LIGHT and that is why some people think ALL battlements above a vantage point floor are light. But it doesn't say that anywhere.
@gwared7Күн бұрын
@@GlassHalfDead thanks for sharing! I can see it now that you've explained it but just wasn't getting that from reading it myself. I think I was getting tangled up with the specific stronghold rules around obscuring too. So if an operative is concealed on one of the vantage points on a stronghold, an enemy operative COULDN'T use Seek Light if facing the main battlements but COULD use Seek Light if they were at the "back" of the stronghold where only the floor is providing light cover?
