Berserk’s a given but Blade of the Immortal is probably my personal favorite. It does take an omnibus or two to really hook you but the story really takes a turn. Highly recommend to anyone!

The only actual manga I collect is "A Bride's Story." It's got an awkward premise, it's not my normal genre, it's the not the genre of this channel, but...I love the setting (the Central Asian Steppes), I love the costuming, and I love the artwork.

Best is definitely gonna be very subjective. But my favorite has to be Slam Dunk. I don’t hear enough about it these days, but I remember it was huge in the 90s. I was first exposed to manga back then as a kid thanks to the Japanese exchange student who stayed with our family and gifted my brother and I a lot of manga. We couldn’t read any, but I never forgot stuff like that and Dragon Ball. Slam Dunk is just a basketball fan’s dream comic. If you were alive in the 80s/90s and following basketball, you’ll likely love it.

6 min into the video and lemme stop yall. Gem I know u love hip hop like i do. Please check out lone wolf and cub. The movie adaptation is called Shogun Assassin and is sampled heavily on liquid swords. duel of the iron mic, 4th chamber, etc. Its an all time classic story.

Vinland Saga without a doubt, it is one of the best mature manga and the anime is killing it as well. Vinland is on par with berserk for me. You should try fullmetal as well.

I agree with you on Hellsing, but I did get the Hellsing Ultimate OVA, which is exactly like the manga, at least for the most part, and watching it was a lot more enjoyable for me than reading it. I'd recommend checking out the Hellsing Ultimate OVA and seeing what you think of that. Manga I really like: -Berserk (best manga ever) -Blade of the Immortal -Akira -Elfen Lied -Parasyte -Gantz -Devil Man -Anything by Junji Ito (at least the stuff I've read, which is too much to list here, but it's mostly one-shot horror manga)

I've been watching Dragon Ball Z since *1991*. I got into reading the manga about 7 years ago (according to my Amazon order list, lol). There's just something really "nice" about reading through it and not have any of the filler in it, but mainly just the fact that the artwork is consistent all the way through. If you watch the show, you'll probably notice characters looking _different_ from one episode to the next, and that was something I always found distracting. When it comes to the manga, though... I VASTLY prefer earlier Dragon Ball (non-Z) to the later "Z chapters." I only got into the Berserk manga fairly recently, like a year or two ago, mostly because I loved the way the hardcovers look in the Gem Mint videos lol (Don't you judge me, Ricky Bobby!). I'm glad I did pick up the series and have read it so far, it's just not my favorite. Vagabond, on the other hand, I LOVED. I still wish that the author (er... "mangaka" I think?) would come back to finish the story one day, but I've accepted the fact that ship has likely sailed (just got to the part where someone said "there's a chance." WHAT?! OMG yes!). Probably not tops, but I just wanted to shout out that the Afro Samurai maga volumes finally got reprinted not long ago, so they might not be the hardest thing to get anymore. Man... "Monster" by Urasawa sounds like it could be a really interesting read. I'm sure I won't be the first to chime in with this lol, but I think shonen is the like "target audience" and Shonen Jump is the like "variety magazine" that collects many different comics/manga in it for that audience? Someone correct me if 'm wrong.

Attack on Titan will always be my favourite. However I’ve been loving jujutsu kaisen lately, manga and anime. The Shibiya incident arc is incredible! Also Berserk, what an amazing read.

The old school Manga, when they were still breaking barriers of what could be done effectively, are the best IMO. There is new stuff that might be considered cleaner or overall better, but they stand on the shoulders of the pioneers that came before. Shoutouts to Claymore and Blame!. Not sure they were mentioned. He who honors their master, honors themself.

Gem definitely read Pluto, it’s only 8 volumes long and is an amazing story. It actually has a brand new anime. But read the manga first, it hits so much better.

⁠@@GemMintCollectiblesthis is partially true. The manga was originally all released in Japan as Dragon Ball, but the anime was broken up as Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Since the anime was so popular in the West, Viz Media decided to change the title of the manga to reflect the Dragon Ball Z name in hopes to sell more of it to westerners, since the name Dragon Ball Z was so much more popular and well known than Dragon Ball. So now when you go to buy the manga, there are the DB volumes and the DBZ volumes to follow the anime. That’s why you had boxsets that were named DB and DBZ. Also, that Joel Soto guy is a dick 🤣

Bobobo is a real thing. He's got a big afro and uses his nose hairs as whips. It's really weird. Also I highly recommend reading Devilman and it's spinoffs. It's old but gold. Berserk took some inspiration from it for sure.

Can't believe no one said Tokyo Revengers. It's great. Also those Gundam the Origin Hardcovers are so gorgeous it's almost worth it just for the shelf, fortunately though the story is intriguing as well. Thunderbolt is the modern Gundam manga releasing and it's really good. Even if you don't like Mecha the characters and the story are incredible.

Not the same as Black Clover a shounen series about orphans that scream and fight with magic. 13:00 ish Also once you stop comparing everything to Berserk, you'll enjoy more variety of series. It's like falling in love with Star Wars and then saying all other sci-fis just dont hit that itch because the bar for Star Wars was so high. Edit: I am not hating on Berserk, it's a godlike series. But discounting so many other great series because of Berserk is wild.

Man, watch hellsing ultimate version. Tht shit is godly. Love the anime and manga. Parasyte is another good one, i got the colored edition. S-cry-ed, yu yu Hakusho, trigun(the new hardcover deluxe drops dec), blades of immortal(own them). Man berserk art work is godly. I just finished the conviction arc and it was godly. Code geass. Man i can go on for awhile😂😂

25:05- looks like we’re running out of time Gem but years ago and yes MAYBE even today Osamu Tezuka’s 12 Volume Pheonix run is supposedly the greatest of all time I picked up a pristine set during the pandemic haven’t read it Tezuka is existentially dark and bleak not good for people with mental medical issues severe depression etc also individual volumes are $100 each almost impossible to obtain a full run even ex-libraries stolen battered copies are too expensive needs a LICENSED REPRINT there’s too much counterfeit on eBay from Malaysia that cashed in or tried to on the Slam Dunk series during pandemic but now it’s available readily . Also the REAL manga run about wheel chair bound athletes it’s incredible but unobtainable as a full run there are no re-prints it’s pretty dark and beautiful shit from what I’ve heard .

The Godfather of Mangakas is Akira Toriyama with Dragonball. But 4 me is the best Dark Fantasie Manga Berserk then Claymore. One of the best Shonen is HxH

So was this a poll for best manga? I thought it more of a recommendation thing. Anyways I suppose I should have added a bit of a bio about blue lock. I've never been into soccer/futbol but essentially blue lock is about the nation of Japan trying to become relevant in the world of futbol. (They lack a striker) so a center for all of the nations best young soccer players is made and they are all called there to compete to become the world's best striker. The blue lock program goes through stages and becomes almost like a tournament to weed out those who cannot become the best. I got hooked after the first volume it's badass and if you don't like it I'll paypal you $20 there is also one season of the anime if you'd rather go that route. Also it is the creator of attack on titan's favorite manga

Helsing started out so great but by the end was SO tired of the way the dialogue is written out in their accent and so much of it was hard to understand and read. It just got so tedious and annoying to me. Berserk is where it’s at

Akira is probably one of my favorites, it's a LOT better than the anime in terms of story (though the anime has some amazing animation to it). Though, Ghost in the Shell is amazing, and WAS better than the live action, though the anime was great (and different enough from the manga to not be a rehash). A few manga people don't talk enough about are Blood on the Tracks, Battle Angel Alita, and Noragami. These were amazing and well worth checking out.

Don't read Demon Slayer. It's a 5/10 manga. The anime is the better way to consume it. Check out The Fable, manga about a hitman, really good and it's aimed at an older audience. Artwork is great too.

I'm not a Manga guy. I ripped through Akira, Berserk, & Blade the Immortal--just couldn't put them down. I know the nudity & rape in Berserk is something people "like" as part of the dark aesthetic, for me it really distracts from the quality storytelling. It feels much more "pornographic" at times.
