Paul, Had a question on speakers since obviously their not in production anymore. Do you have lots of spare tweeters, midrange and servo woofer driver? Maybe from arnie's stash of parts? I saw some of stuff from arnie's estate being sold on ebay by a online boulder company (the audio room) that sells all sorts of high end gear. Who specifically repairs and reconditions these if no spares are available? I thought it interesting for a speaker made in such low number and from the mid 80's. Thanks again Paul for everything you do!

One question: the first Woofer Tower went across the street via forklift, but the second Woofer Tower went across the street via truck. Why? Forklifts have little suspension, so I am hoping that there was no damage on that first trip.

Having watched the "last song in music room one" video, assuming the recording gear was the same and having been myself through all this "sound character" thing that different room settings and treatments impart to the sound, I'd say that this room has a lot more reverb that gives the impression of a bigger space, clearer highs, more impressive sound. Yet, carefull A/B comparison with the old room sound, shows that the old room setting/refinement, was more true to the recording itself. Individual sounds are better defined tonally, temporally and spatially. The sound in the old room had a slightly more prominent "it's not real, just a recording" feeling, which is simply...the truth! I think the impression that the highs are better in the new room is just an effect that goes together with the more distant ("spacious") image, as a result of an overall different tonal balance. It has happened to me before as a choice between "distant, spacious, sharply imaged" or "immediate, lively, but less hi-fiishly impressive". The system delivers a glorious performance anyway, but I believe you and your team will make some fine tuning before deciding what's best. EXCELLENT VIDEOS PAUL! AND THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR SHARING WITH US, LESS FORTUNATE AUDIOPHILES!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this system sounds awesome but seeing the main speakers taken apart reveals that that they are really only slim line source speakers with huge, opaque side wings backed up with mighty servo subs. Presumably the sidewings are to smooth dispersion but their bulk must be visually and psychologically intrusive into the image . The most convincing systems I have heard have wide spread, small speakers in a nearfield arrangement and a clear floor in front of the listener in which the image can develop. I wonder what the speakers would sound like with no wings or to at least make the wings seethrough by using glass or acrylic ? Not meaning to downplay an awesome system, but this thought just occurred to me.

Yes sir, its basically 6 complete stereos in one. But then its only original main intention in the beginning was a tool for audio equipment development. For me, the real legacy of this design will be when they are practical as a couple of stereo speakers the wife might allow in the house.
@Paulmcgowanpsaudio5 жыл бұрын

Ok, in watching the breakdown and reassembly, the crew reversed the subs, the edit shows the right being moved first and the left last, though the left was assembled first in the new room whilst the left became the right in the new room. Whoe horsey. I have tested several book shelf Awai systems extensively. Awai, put optimized class ab amp chips in some of their systems. So here we have a Darlington power pack module inside. (STK series chips) Bang! Enter Sanyo into the mix! With these dual voltage chips, a company can, and has many times, installed these into their chassis as an economical quality alternative to designing their own chips. Got a Marantz sr870u that has one in it. 70+70 watts for the rear channels.. Anyway...The awia that I tested had I think it was a 30+30 chip in it. Hooked to a functioning Fisher 12in 3way floor stander it was light in the deep bass. With a Yamaha double cassette deck as preamp boosting the signal from a cheaply cell phone into the awai's "aux in"... It wailed.😊😍

It is this type of video that includes your customer base and expands goodwill to those who cannot possibly own such outstanding speakers, but still, like to feel a part of the process. I'm surprised you are still running monster cable on the EMIMS. If the power cords make such a difference than you would think the signal wire going to the EMIMS should have some attention too. I thought the mid-high frequency columns were enclosed boxes. Also, bass frequencies fall faster, so why are the low end drivers situated behind the mid/high towers? The designer is either a genius or completely insane.
@dirkdesmet43335 жыл бұрын
Wauw indeed ! It is a great set up BUT the room is not suited for this kind of big high end gear. You need a room 3 or 4 times the size and with the right acoustic treatment . I am affaight that this way you do not honour the set up. So try to find the perfect space and enjoy the full capacity of your sublime system ! :-)
@cp0704765 жыл бұрын
So the high's are better and the low's are deeper. But the mid bass has gone. It's time to break the Audiophile rules and do a bit of EQ! The only way to get the sound you want.

Two tall groups of green bamboo stalks to the left and right of the towers (not covering the bass towers) would IMO provide an aesthetically pleasing camouflage to cover the mini split and still allow the air to circulate. The group on the left would be for visual and acoustic symmetry, since it wouldn't be hiding anything. Just a thought.

For the sake of clarity please call the primary listening room in the new building Listening Room One. It's where the #1 system is played, everybody gets that. If you have a master bedroom and then move to a new house, do you now call it master bedroom two?

Sounds awesome even with the limitations of KZbin playback! Wouldn't a larger room be beneficial, allowing a bit more space between the two monsters? ..and also, if the 'live' room is a problem, some very large wall paintings on canvas will definitely solve that. Congratulations on a job well done by all!

It's always good to have young muscle around to do most of the heavy lifting. My fist job after getting out of the army back in 1970 was at Analog Devices in Cambridge, we were in a fair sized two story building that was bursting at the seams. i was hired as an engineering tech, I was told we would be moving ito yje building across the lot In a week. Across the parking lot was an old mill building (still had the round ports in the ends where the long axle that was driven by water power used to be) this building was going to be the new home for engineering and test. The movers would handle all the benches, desks and cabinets but the engineers and techs would move all the test equipment. Carrying a Textronix 545 scope down two flights of stairs and across that lot was not an easy job - thanfully the new lab space was on the first floor. I could sit at my bench and imagine the old shaft running 15 feet above my head with bolts coming off it to run the machinery down on the shop floor. I'm glad you got the new music room set up and I'm sure you will have it tweaked in soon.
