Summary - Problem - * UN report says 60% of world's open defecation takes place in India * Open defecation leads to water borne diseases (Fecal contaminated water) Swacch Bharat mission - * Mission mode - Got success and 5 states are declared ODF * Now President and VP (Top 2 constitutional heads) are taking participation in program * President Kovind launched Swachh hi Seva program Challenges - * People's active participation lacks at many places and hence administration had to use coercive tools to get the work done which is not a solution * * Access to toilet does not mean Use and Use does not mean Long term maintenance * People yet need to go for behavioural changes and Take Fundamental duty as serious as fundamental right Solution - * Sanitation is in CDR (Corporate social responsibilities) and hence every private and public establishment (Specially road side Dhabas) need to have obligated toilet facility for their employees and visitors * * Having facility is very important, Today at my village's bus stand a lady threw a banana peel. I was surprised, picked up the peel in front of her to teach her a lesson (By throwing that peel in dustbin and hence making her guilty) but I was helpless at the very next moment as I couldn't find any dustbin at all. Now I had to put that peel in a drain. * Don't impose the change, rather facilitate the change. Bring it gradually

Dr. Shamika Ravi Senior Fellow of Governance Studies Program,Brookings India has mentioned about research done in MP and Odisha which shows impact on children's health due to 20% open defecation is not large ( 2011 Pilot study). Can I get any link to research article showing such kind of result ??

ashab noumani absolutely it is true my friend. But there are some problem firstly the cost involved to modify all the traditional toilet of coaches into bio toilet is huge. We have to redesign the toilet Secondly It is time consuming. Thirdly no one is interested to invest money in this project. Another big issue that I have seen many people throwing water bottle into the bio toilet of trains. Which choke the whole system. this problems need to be address.

Sometimes government should not be hesitate for putting obligation.Gov should put obligation on private construction site, factories, and private households for toilets.Because cleanliness in India require a revolution like 1942.

Government is actually the de facto leader of our people and holds the strongest prerogative to ignite social revolutions. Apart from awareness programmes, a carrot and stick approach can come in handy in speeding up sanitation efforts. Naming-shaming can definitely facilitate behavioural change in people.

According to me we won't be able to convince people by praying or giving demonstrations. There should be strict measures and people who are involved in open defecation and other unhealthy practices should be fined. For homeless and BPL families govt. itself should make sufficient number of toilets.

Sanjay Raina I think the most important thing is to educate people. educate them about the hygiene and its effect in our life. Its social health and financial benefits.

guttula bharath we need to think about rainwater harvesting. government can't do everything for us. Self help is the best policy.

guttula bharath Drought doesn't mean that you've to defecate outside. South Africa had also faced a drought like situation.

There should be a movement against spitting too. People spit everywhere freely causing health problems. Also, people don't feel shame in open spitting as in open defecation.

yes there is responsibility of corporate to help in building toilets at highways and other public places so that use of toilet come under behavior i think people with less education learn more things by seeing around that what others are doing to in this perspective education plays an important role. other thing that only giving subsidies and making toilet is not solution thers many places which not having acces to water so how this toilet making will be a great movent so govt and even individual must think of every perspective of that to make it sucess open dedication free.
