External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar who is on a two day visit to Russia has said that Indo Pacific is one of the new concepts and approaches thrown up by the changing world. With various countries and international forums using the term Indo Pacific in their official statements, it is gaming currency in recent times .
India, France and Australia have held track 1.5 dialogue to identify security challenges and sustainability issues in the Indo Pacific region. Safeguarding freedom of navigation and keeping Indo Pacific stable was a crucial item on the agenda during Prime minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron ' s annual summit last week in Paris. So what is the strategic importance of Indo Pacific region and what are the policies adopted by various stakeholders in the region.

Summary: Importance of Indo-pacific: Major trade passes through the region and hence the security and communication becomes important to maintain. The very change from Asia Pacific to Indo Pacific implies India's strategic role in containing the challenges. Different interpretation of scope of Indo Pacific by the different players. India has a more balanced view endorsing both the rules based order(US view) and cooperation in the region(ASEAN and China's view). China's Challenge: Plays for power. Has presence all over the region.(Hanbantota, stakes in Dhaka submarines to Thailand, Bangladesh etc). South China Sea( Scarborough Shoal) i.e. Strong naval presence. This has given way to various groups(Quad etc) coming up to ensure a multipolar region which India can utilise to put its stand more firmly. Conclusion: We need to carefully balance both the cooperation aspects in the region along with addressing the threat that has risen because of China's rise. Putting maritime infrastructure in place, a strong naval presence and diplomacy will ensure that region remains open, integrated and balanced.

I would like to add peaceful and prosperous goals along with other 3 goals. I think India Japan and USA have left a country in their initiative and that is France.France must be in the group. I think indo Pacific is not all about Chinese influence,it is something beyond that.For instance,whynot we have not been able to win the trust of countries in this region as we have won Maldives , Indonesia and Singapore.

France is one of the important fulcrum in stabilising the region.India should not take silent rise of china as threat or giving the term agression,rather taking that as challenge and strenthening act east policy to gain more cofidence of ASEAN region is the need of significance. Modernising the navy should not be compromise,joint naval exercise with all stake holder must be centre of focus.
