One suggestion to you RSTV. Ask other members who are not speaking to Mute their mics so that the one who is speaking can be heard clearly and irritation is somewhat lesser.

While comparing the failure of YES Bank and any PSB Mr. Bhattacharjee said about the YES BANK that it is not the failure of public money 😂 while in PSB we need public money to bail out. For your kind information the financial institutions came to (or forced to) bail out the YES BANK were SBI and LIC and Both are public sector institutions. So eventually public money is only used in either way. If we talk about growing NPA's in Nationalised Banks then (1) it is purely bcaz of the Ruling parties in govt who force banks for granting loans to their big businessman friends and eventually when it turns into bad loans blame the Bank. (2) In every election political parties make promises if they come into the govt they will waive off all the agriculture loans or MSME loans or education loans which creates a negative impact on the repayment of loans. In this way even many people who are properly repaying or have the capacity to repay feel like why should they repay if Govt is telling not to do so. Till the govt will not solve these issues NPA'S will be rising only.

good point. The issue here is nobody is talking about RBI's accountability and functions. RBI is the regulator of banks in the country. Inherently there are actually there are enough checks and balances in the system to ensure that banks do not fail. And if they start failing then the regulator has enough time to respond to ensure safety of depositors money. First is Tier I Capital ratio which as per RBI norms must be at 8% of banks deposits. That means banks must have 8% in perpetual bonds. This money cannot touched by banks under circumstances. Then there is Tier II Capital. This again is form of long term bonds. As RBI norms Tier I and Tier II Capital combined ratio must be 12.5 %. Which means as per law banks must have 12.5% CAR or CRAR i.e. combined Reserves and Ratios of bank deposits. Then there is Tier III capital which banks must keep to ensure that they have reserves to cover for NPAif they do not make adequate profits in the quarter or the financial year. Then there is Cash Reserve Ratio, i.e. banks must keep a fixed percentage of their total deposits in cash with other banks and RBI. And finally there is Statutory Liquidity Ratio which means a percentage of total deposits made with the bank in a day on average must be kept in liquid assets, i.e. government securities etc which can easily be liquidated. And this is greater than 100. So if on a average 100 rupees in deposited with a bank in total , a greater amount has to be in liquids assets. Even then we saw Yes Bank and LVB case. Not to mention annual audit by the RBI. What was RBI doing ?

Firstly,l request RSTV to please sort out the sound issue it's really very irritating...We know video conferencing is little difficult without any hiccups but the extra background sounds & the issue of keeping the mic near mouth can be solved. This is something we have been telling since the last couple of months.... Secondly, regarding Bank, it's not the money which keeps it going but the people's trust & putting the cap of 5 lakhs assured insurance is according to my view is absurd.l mean after all it's the peoples money.People deposit money cause they think it is safe & laws are made to protect those money & if in any case something goes wrong then it should be the banks responsibility to insured the full money to the depositors instead of 5 lakhs only.

My meta comments on discussion : - Tax payers money is also the Tax paid by corporations and banks - Every business (private or public) run in a country is partly owned by Government, that is why corporates pays tax to government - So when a corporate bankrupts it is governments obligation as the main stake holder to wipe off the debt (because it has already been paid by that entity in form of tax) - To say that "tax payers money" should not be used to "bail big banks" is myopic. If a bank which can go under has risk of disrupting trust in banking system then Government should save it.

Road ahead is not only for Banks but for poor people of India by selling banks stakes in the market. India is country where 70% of people are poor or near to poor. That's why nationalisation of bank is the backbone of livelihood of medim and poor people.

Most of the PSBs are in profit. With some improvements in customer service, i think we should go ahead with public sector banks. And if required merger can be an option but privatisation is a big no. No one knows when a private bank is going the way YES Bank and IHFL went.
