16 October 1945: formation of Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO) of UN=World Food day Theme for 2018= Our Action our Future & Goal= Zero hunger by 2030 Sikkim=Oscar for best policies =World's first 100% organic state goal: doubling income of farmers by 2022 issues: 1.820 mill suffering from chronic undernourished. 2) 196 mill undernourished are Indians 3) South Asia=50% of population are still undernourished. 4) Agriculture ,fisheries make 23% of world pop. but it 43% Indians work in this sector and which constitute only 16% of GDP of India 5) Issue with India is not lack of availability of food but is affordability of nutritious Food and Wastage of Food(15-20%). 6) Issues with PDS system, quality of Food, Infrastructure & Supply chain,& processing of Food. 7) lack of Nutritious Food Knowledge(mainly marginal and small farmers). 8) Wastage of Food. Example: India is World largest producer of bananas, but still make just 0.34% of global export of bananas. done: 1) FAO helping India in doubling Farmers Income. 2) national Food Security Act 2013 & Mid Day Meal: but it does not provide nutritious Food Way Forward: 1) Buy Nutritious Local food from rural areas. Example: buy Milk from rural areas and Distribute it in Mid Day meal or in some other Way. Move from Macrologies to Micro-policies i.e village level, block level 2) need efficiency Distribution and consider FOA as global Experiences. 3) Reduce wastage to 5-10% by making investment in Cold storage or make mandis as in Rural Areas 4) Need to work with state govt and more focus on every aspect of Food chain. 5) produce Diversified Food-->will meet nutritious food requirement 6) MSP should cover more items to benefit those 80-90% of farmers who don't get benefit under this. 7) Industry should also help and more investment is required in agriculture sector, it is not always good to provide waiver to farmers every time when our Banks are suffering from NPA issue.

Hunger is a global challenge and is not about the lack of the food always, it's increasingly a processing, storage and distribution challenge.changing patterns of food demand and availability of quality food according to the food baskets (region specific) are our challenges ahead. Issues: 1.Storage infrastructure( cold chain or refrigeration ) distribution (linking of the rural areas with roads and better transportation facilities),processing( post harvest losses should be reduced by improving warehousing. )Food wastage ( proper cold storage for maintaining quality ) 2.Growing climate variability tampers the agricultural production too. So we should develop resilient transportation system to distribute surplus production in areas which are climate stressed. That way we come close to achieving the SDG target of zero hunger. 3.Nutrition education - awareness about the nutrition is as important as diversifying our nutrition basket ( nutri farms ) . 4.Micro and decentralised practices - integrating small scale farmers into value chain, Facilitating local markets and local distribution system. Better linking of programmes. 5.Role of industry : recycling of food items , regulations for food wastage should be in place.processing efficiency should be increased.

For investment and develoupment of Agri sector and there by tackling the monster in the room(Hunger), nutritional awareness has to be acheived which is next to impossible to get in a diverse country like ours where society and administration is divided in multiple pieces..

Most of the street food is unhygienic. What's the guarantee that restaurants are cooking healthy food? In our previous generations the trend was to cook at home but the scenario has changed now. One can easily see blooming business of curry points, online food orders.

Ratna Nirupama Fast food really posing a great challenge for India as disease burden of lifestyle diseases is increasing. We have to invest in our own Indian food processing industry as our people can prepare so many different types of nutritious snacks,for instance Laddu made from ragi or Peanut-Jaggery,etc.We just need to promote these kind of foods.Mr Haque rightly said that nutrition awareness to be increased.
@ay64016 жыл бұрын
Well that's a sad truth n so is the increasing incidence of several life- threatening diseases. For the name we have an authoritative setup called FSSAI but how far n deep it does its duties it's well known. No checks on what is being sold at the roadside , no inspection of materials being used for preparing such foods .all we can do is that must use our wisdom before consuming anything n anywhere.

Those who have the purchasing power , also know that the food they eat is not good for them . So it's upto them . And children these days are aware what's good and what's not . So awareness should be started from the family base .

Either street food or restaurant food both r unhygenic..... The best food is home made n nothing else. Bcz in restaura tastes r nothin just chemicals which might cost u in future.

With due respect to all panelists,but no one is talking about "Minimum wages act".Which has a one of the among, very important clause of "daily calorie consumption" while in calculating minimum wages. We need to move from calorie based regime of food intake to Nutrition based regime. Govt must amend and implement those clauses in respective sector which may have a far reaching impact to achieve "Zero Hunger" by 2030
@Himanshu-fg9uq6 жыл бұрын
It wont help much mate. Minimum wages act applies only to those who are in formal sector. 90% of the Indian labor is in informal sector, who are not covered by Minimum wages act.

On one side the government speaks of organic farming, on the other side they support fast foods, other chips, chocolates which hugely impact the lifestyle of people leading to obesity etc. Without putting a check on the foods, how can you ensure that people will lead a healthy lifestyle?
