Can’t wait to watch you fitting out the lorry!!!!! I would leave the rear doors on, just fit a all glazed double doors and full length windows. When driving the solid doors can be closed and when parked up the doors can be opened, to reveal the glazed rear and bring in so much light without reducing the structural integrity, it would also reduce the need for any windows along the side, if any….

Leave the night heater in the cab, in the winter time they are really usefull, you just switch it on about a 15 to 30minutes before driving, and when you want to drive you have a warm cab, without having to wait for the engine to warm up, and it also can be usefull as a backup heat source

Just found your channel - really interested to see how you lay-out the 22' box! Hope you don't find important pipes / chassis rails under where you want to drill holes - the 'check we can actually get this layout to fit within the constraints' is less fun than working out all the different ways to fit everything you want in ... In the past I used Chapman seating (custom vehicle for a company I worked for), it looks like they still make the seat plinths with the handle for height adjustment. They were very sturdy seats (and Piper, Jack and Teddy (?) will appreciate being a bit higher if you can achieve that. The vehicle they were fitted to was a 4 tonne 4x4 Iveco Daily ... we had to upgrade to a 6.5 tonne 2wd as the vehicle was overweight after fitting out - good luck making a lightweight interior. I've been following the 'Love Sundays' channel - Shaun from deepest Cornwall is in the middle of fitting out a Transit van - it's quite interesting viewing and has some useful ideas. Another very informative van build was 'Max and Occy' - an Australian chap with his lovely big dog - he filmed quite detailed videos 2-3 years ago. If you can run to the cost of fitting the flexible solar panels, you could get a lot of free power from the massive roof! It might be useful if you find getting a pitch with a mains hook-up more difficult in a truck than in a van. Nice choice. Looking forward to the build. So I had a thought... It maybe worth your while investing in a set of Alloy wheels by Alcoa. Firstly it will save you a useful amount of weight and secondly who doesn't like a nice bright shiny wheel.....

What a lovely Family and what a fantastic but slightly unusual live style you have opted for , we honestly hope everything goes well for you all and can continue safely on your travels. Each one of you are highly likeable , Adults and Children alike but we have a firm favourite who keeps us in Gales of laughter especially when he is being driven and that is Teddy .What a smashing little Bloke he is , whom seems to be nonplussed at what he is looking at through the cab windscreen and either cant quite believe it or quickly gets bored and drift off to Bo Peep so quickly. There can't be a lot wrong with this Country when it still produces decent Families such as yours. Speaking as a father of four who is just about to become an Octogenarian , my only words of advice are enjoy every minute of it as time bombs by at an alarming rate of knots and before you kn ow where you are you will be our age , plus I wish we had mobiles with videos when ours were young for all our memories which are instantly viewable via the T.V. etc.. your channel popped up so i had a watch, + subbed. nice looking truck, but... fibreglass roofs always leak + cannot take a tree-strike,+ too much overhang at rear fit a solid, fully insulated roof, + chop a metre off the body, don't be greedy, you don't need that length anyway, + you need a hitch for your smart car [yes, you will need some wheels to go to tescos], with the present over-hang it will bounce a car clean off best of luck with the build, but please spend some time thinking before starting the build PS, solar panels will [stress fracture] fall through that roof

Rick if you are thinking of taking out the securing points have a large container and save the screws use again, one rule I would impose on Piper Jack and Teddy even though they are well behaved (basically a safety one) they only get in and out of the cab with you guys watching this may seem draconian but its a long way to fall (I normally don't like children due to all the horrors I have met over the years but yours are a pleasant change so wouldn't want to see them get hurt). Now you have the truck sit and read the manual, things you will need too know (A) turning circle useful on a site also when at a junction how far you need to come out to turn (B) height you can get stickers with the height of your vehicle to stick in the cab you will also need to know the width as a lot of country roads you wont fit (C) know how long the overhang from the rear axle is then you can take that into account when reversing. Something Rick drop a lot of hints for a birthday/Christmas present a professional trucker's GPS then all you have to do is program all the vehicle details in and hopefully it will avoid low bridges narrow roads and weight restrictions.

This is brilliant. We’re embarking on a similar journey, but we bought an Iveco Eurocargo, with a 20’ curtain side body. We wanted a Merc, but any in our price range were terminally rusty, or only had a 4 cylinder engine, or had another issue that put me off. I’m happy with the 6 cylinder truck we got, which has a good chassis and box, though the cab is a bit scabby, so that’s where the work will have to begin, in order to stay in test. Can’t wait to see how the Ateca treats you. We didn’t need the sleeper cab, or crew cab, because there are only 3 of us and the day cab seats 3. That means our finished truck will be a full meter shorter than yours, though I’m thinking we’ll retain the tail lift to have a possible extended floor space, or perhaps an open deck, when parked up. It will also save hiring a fork lift to get heavy items in, such as the stove. I’ve subscribed, so I can follow your conversion. Good luck with it

Glad you’ve not gone for the auto box, they’re very prone to clutch failure and cost a fortune to fix, £6000.00! Also the Ategos like a drink, thirsty beasts!

We test drove an auto and it was horrible to drive, not sure if that one was dodgy but I didn't like it. The fuel is gonna cost us a bit, but it's factored in to the running costs. Have you drive ategos? What mpg do you think we'll get?

@@Touringwiththekids yes I driven one for over 5 years now for a living, both the 7.5 tonne and the 12 tonne, I get 15 mpg tops on average, company pays though and lots of start stop as deliver in town centres. I’ve found though the DAFs are better equipped but fragile, Mercs are very basic but pretty indestructible all for the auto box which likes to chew clutches at 120,000 km, not much in truck terms so wise for the manual, no vague gear changes like the manual DAF!

Good luck with ur new truck ...just wondering about the tachograph...I take it you don't need to use it because you're not using the the lorry for hire or reward .? Always use..GOAL..get out and look . And also be really careful because you have a long tail swing and as a class 1 driver of 30 years thats one thing that could get you in trouble.

Hi Guys, congratulations on the truck which looks great and so glad you decided against having a cut through as you would have regretted it. I used to have a converted 7.5t which had been a mobile library and had a cut though. Although the access was fantastic maintenance on the vehicle was a nightmare as we could no longer tilt the cab! It also leaked from time to time which drove me nuts. Looking forward to seeing the conversion and wish you loads of luck and fun in the process.

You can make a nice camper out of that, and as for the heater unit you want to take out, it is not wise to keep it and mount it in the camper?.. if it is a WEBASTO you have a very good use of it again. If the heating fails (power failure) or you are in a place where there is no power, then you have a backup. nice movie and keep up the good work! 👍

Only just started to watch your channel! Need to do some catching up…. Any reason picked a lorry over a bus? Be interesting to see how you if the kids seats, due to fitting seat belt etc and changing from 2 to 5 on the log book… Hopefully this will all be explained in future videos….
