I grew up in the Lake Alfred, Florida.l used to watch ACL train .passenger and freight run in the back of my house. At the time they were Minute Maid houses for employees on lynchburg road and the old dixie highway.(the old lake alfred road.) The houses are gone now. I came back every year to visit my Family and friends in Lake Alfred, Winter Haven,Auburndale,Bartow and a special friend in Lakeland.l work on some train cars and engines that l see in some of yours video.l was suprised to learn that the engines that l thought were scrapped are now refurbish and now pulling the Auto train. I retired from Amtrak in 2003.

Something about it seems comforting to me, though I can't explain it. It just feels familiar and friendly, almost like it's my grandpa telling me about his day, but also feels like some kind of classic travel guide you'd see on the old school Travel Channel.

Love that radio traffic - that's two people who've definitely worked together quite a while and it sounds like they have a great working relationship. I hope they both have long and happy careers, despite the current rail management being intent on putting people like them through a meatgrinder in the name of another few pennies of profit.

It’s a nice to hear kids are still interested in railroads. My late grand dad was an engineer on the Hartwell Railway from 1920 until 1960, he worked there for 50 years. I have a photo of him in the cab of his ALCO 2-6-0 (built in 1909)in 1939. My late dad was in the CBI theater, 721st Railway Battalion during WW2. The museum has two GE 44 ton diesels from Hartwell.

Danny in the late 1960’s I worked for a civil engineering firm surveying all the section corners for Mackel Brothers Spring Hill development going just outside Dunnellen. Our crews always ate lunch at Mrs B’s family style restaurant in the middle of town. The train tracks ran right behind the restaurant and while we were eating in the dining room Mts B would feed the train crew out back. The restaurant is long gone now but the tracks are still there. Crews don’t eat as well now I suspect!
