Sorry for nitpicking, it's one of my favorite dessert/meal as a kid, so I want people to know what it's supposed to be like : Uniform small bubbles and a smooth surface outside is desired for this kind of steamed buns, think cakes as opposed to bread. In order to achieve that, you need to re-knead the dough after the first rise to squeeze out large air bubbles as much as possible. (I like to use a rolling pin for this). After steaming, turn off the heat, but leave the lid on for a few minutes to avoid shrinkage. Also, the dough looks too wet, so the buns look kind of collapsed. You need firmer dough to get the dome shape.

Quick warning for any Latinx peeps or anyone who's just used to eating refried red beans: This is a totally different taste that's going to kinda mess you up since you're used to eating a more savory version of red beans. Cook on high, add sugar and vanilla and cook until water has evaporated. Stiring frequently. Ive had a dish similar to the red bean paste dumpling at Shangri-La in Detroit. It was like 10 times smaller, it had sesame seeds all over and It was egg washed. Tbh I didn’t like it because it wasn’t savory and I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be a dessert. But it’s a dish that I still respect

I saw this and literally gasped. Spirited Away is my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film, so I literally had a ton of nostalgia as I saw the scene in the beginning. I will definitely be making these in the near future, so thank you! Love your videos :)
