Honestly you can use a pot on a stove for everything. For the steamer you just also need something with holes on the bottom like a strainer or something

Sorry for nitpicking, it's one of my favorite dessert/meal as a kid, so I want people to know what it's supposed to be like : Uniform small bubbles and a smooth surface outside is desired for this kind of steamed buns, think cakes as opposed to bread. In order to achieve that, you need to re-knead the dough after the first rise to squeeze out large air bubbles as much as possible. (I like to use a rolling pin for this). After steaming, turn off the heat, but leave the lid on for a few minutes to avoid shrinkage. Also, the dough looks too wet, so the buns look kind of collapsed. You need firmer dough to get the dome shape.

ya I agree, they don't look good at all, its flat and had way too much air bubbles. Bun looks easy to make but even using the wrong type of flour and ingredients, and we're not talking about the cooking process yet, can lead to a catastrophe like this. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Quick warning for any Latinx peeps or anyone who's just used to eating refried red beans: This is a totally different taste that's going to kinda mess you up since you're used to eating a more savory version of red beans. The texture is similar but the sweetness is going to put you on your head and make you question everything. Happened the first few times I had mochi but you can get kind of used to it. Its surreal.

For anyone wanting to make this with canned red beans, here's how: (I make a lot at a time but feel free to reduce the amounts as needed) •3 cans of red beans •2/3 cup sugar •1 tbsp vanilla extract Drain the beans and put them in a pot, fill with water until just covered. Cook on high, add sugar and vanilla and cook until water has evaporated. Stiring frequently. It's done when it looks like the beans in the video @ 1:40 Blend in a food processor and you should have what looks like the texture in the video :)

There’s a Chinese Filipino steamed bun liked that called “siopao” and it’s usually filled with pork (siopao asado) 😊 it’s really good and every time I eat it I feel like Chihiro I’m Spirited Away

@@Lucretitia There's no translation for this movie in Finnish. Also, translations aren't to be trusted anyway, since translators have to take the target audience's culture into consideration. Like, onigiri are suddenly donuts or something in that one Pokemon episode.

I’m not sure if the dumplings are exactly the same but we eat dumplings in Germany as well... without the filling though. We eat them with a hot blueberry sauce or with melted brown butter + salt. So delicious. My siblings and I used to make a competition who can eat the most. Gotta try the red bean filling, sounds great :)

Ive had a dish similar to the red bean paste dumpling at Shangri-La in Detroit. It was like 10 times smaller, it had sesame seeds all over and It was egg washed. Tbh I didn’t like it because it wasn’t savory and I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be a dessert. But it’s a dish that I still respect
