Jon thanks for spelling out with charts. That was a good lesson. I don’t catch many 20 and over but do release in the rare occasion I catch them. I think it’s a must for the future generations. Heck to me a 20 inch trout really not the best to eat anyways. Thanks again for the video. Very good.

Great video Jon. Man, if that chart is accurate that is a really shocking to see the decline of 20" + trout since the 80's. We would catch trout over 20" on a daily basis fishing Seabrook in the late 90s. Some good times. Would love to see the population go back up.

I don’t know about all that hogwash, but I do know it’s me and my son went out Tuesday and we caught nothing but fish all day long 18 to 20 inch fish or regular in all we kept 24 of them 20 was our limit 20 inches that is and we kept nothing under 14 and we only kept those few because they were healthy and are use nothing but soft plastic and my son used nothing but a jig head and shrimp. I’ve caught more big fish the last year and a half than I did in the previous 10 or 12 years that’s not someone’s scientific papers. Telling that it’s real life real time actual experience, those declines on your chart fall inline with man-made disasters. Like the BP oil spill the openings of the Bonnie Cary spillway year after year, sometimes more than once a year.

Couple things worth noting. One trip does not provide enough evidence to make any type of claim on the population. Call up 100 buddies and do 100 consecutive trips where everyone is catching large trout and you would have a worthwhile sample size. Also, Jon never said the decline of big trout was caused by man. It seems most people agree most of it is due to environmental factors. That’s irrelevant. The reality is that the only lever we have to pull in terms of helping the trout population is by managing recreational angler limits. That’s it. So, why not do everything we can to make the population the best it can be.
