Great video, I had the privilege of doing the "W" Trek twice and the "O" ones. It was allways an escape from the world where you find yourself with the nature and at the same time you find peace, also you face different types of challenges, with your physical capacity, with different landscapes, routes, climbs and of course with the weather, i mean you can have the five seasons in A single day a radiant sun or a wind over 100 km per hour. I also lost count of how many people I said hello and how many they greeted me simply by bumping into each other walking. It is an experience that cleanses your mind, probably many of you felt the same way when you made the circuit. I was born in Patagonia and i love it.

Fabulous footage - very helpful in visualizing what I'm reading in my Lonely Planet book. Were the trails well enough marked that you wouldn't need a guide?
@Kernowclimber10 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't need a guide, Mary, as the trails are well marked. We bought a map of the park which shows all the trails in Cotswolds before we left. It was very useful because it gave the approximate distances and time taken to hike the various sections.

Brilliant! And by the way: the park's splendor was recently confirmed when it was named the 8th Wonder of the world by the TripAdvisor-owned travel website, virtualtourist.com. According to the Wall Street Journal, the contest featured 300 nominations from more than 50 countries and opened the vote up to visitors on VirtualTourist.com, a travel review site that has around 1.3 million members. Torres del Paine National Park took the majority of the 5 million votes and an event was hosted in the park by the Chilean Ministry of Economy to celebrate the designation.

HI Martin nice video you did! Can you tell me please why did you decide to go from west to east?
@brycemironuck8 жыл бұрын
Frank, This is done because of the way the wind typically travels I believe. If heading east to west, you get a headwind - west to east and you get the wind at your back helping you along.

Thanks to Bryce for his comment. We also reckoned that the timings were better for us for the boat to Refugio Paine Grande plus you are building up to the finale at the Mirador Torres

probably the best video on W trek, thanks. We are doing it in January 2017 and I am so excited. I know the bus to Puerto Natales leaves 14.30 from park entrance and you mentioned shuttle bus back to the entrance. What times is it? is there shuttle bus info somewhere on the website, thanks for posting this
@Kernowclimber8 жыл бұрын
+Radmila Krejci Hi there, we caught the 2.00 pm shuttle bus from the Hotel de las Torres to the Guardería Laguna Amarga (the park entrance), but can't see this advertised on the park website. Best check before you leave. Thanks for your kind comments; good luck and we hope you enjoy your trek. We certainly did and consider it the best we've done anywhere in the world :-)

We are also doing the W trek in January 2017 and have the same dilema west to east or east to west. But I think we are doing going east to west, we want to finish with a 5 hour glacier trek.

Hi Martin. My wife and I just decided to trek your trek (albeit with less gear on our backs) November 2014. You and Sharon put a lot of work into that video. And your technique was excellent. Did you mix your own music? Or compose it? Some of it sounded a little like Moby. Some sounded like you were sampling from parts of some classical pieces. Anyway, enjoyed your trek from the comfort of my living room!
@Kernowclimber10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Alan, and glad that you enjoyed our video. We don't mix our own music, we just use tracks that we like, in this case, music from Aphix Twin and The Gotan Project are two of those featured.

Hi! I'm doing the W trail the first week of November (in a few weeks :-D ). I see you very confortable wearing a T shirt :-p What was the temperature there? I know the weather is very changeable but what temeperatures did you experience in your trek?
@EtherealLightPhotography6 жыл бұрын
Hi Su, yes the weather is very changeable in Patagonia, and we had a range of temperatures from warm and sunny to very cold (up at the Torres del Paine viewpoint at dawn). Long sleeved wool base layers worked best for us, as these could be paired with a fleece or waterproof jacket for extra warmth. Have a great trip!

Ben Ward, we would always self guide given the choice, as we are fiercely independent as well as competent wilderness trekkers. Having a guide in many places is really not that necessary. We have had some real duff ones who knew next to nothing about the local flora and fauna despite their claims, and their mountain skills left a lot to be desired too. However, in many places we have trekked (India, Tanzania, Peru), they are mandatory. In Torres del Paine fortunately they are not!

@fatimac38873 жыл бұрын
