As a coin collector and a registered set competitor, I do buy almost all pedigrees of the ASE, including the mint varieties, the same thing is also done with the Chinese Pandas, not having a mint mark, getting coins from a specific mint is very hard to prove after removal from the monster box's and makes the coins with a pedigree including the mint rare. Rarities amongst an otherwise massive overall mintage is still rare and worth a bit more than a standard coin.

It seems that the driving factor for these "Minted at" slabbed bullion ASE's is to create perceived rarity. Part of the fun of collecting is to have something quasi unique that only a few people can have. If you are a hardcore collector of ASE's (I'm not) and know that these gems exist, you will need it for your collection to be whole. The graded slab is your assurance that the item is genuine. It would be interested to find if there is a minutiae of difference between the coins struck at the various Mints. Gimmick? Of course, just as the Registry is.

With the WP mint, with the older type 1 S/E's the only difference between the uncircirculated/burnished silver eagles the WP mint sells directly to the public versus the ones sold to certified vendors in monster boxes is the W mint mark; otherwise, they are the exat same coin. It would be like the Ford mortor co charging a huge premium by selling a couple thousand F-150 pickup trucks directly from the factory versus the millions sold directly to dealers. Even though they're the exact same truck, they expect a huge premium during resale if you can show evidence, (some mark on the truck), that it were purchased from the factory versusfrom a dealer.

Sometimes Lables do make a big difference. Let's take the 1986 Silver eagle for example. Regular slab 100 dollars. 1986 (S) Struck in San Francisco. MS 69 350 dollars. MS 70 3500 dollars. 1987 (S) same thing. Struck in San Francisco MS 69 250 dollars. MS 70 2500 dollars. NGC prices.

I’m not into graded coins but did buy a few do to rarity including rarest gold coin. The only silver bullion Eagles I like are 1st year (86) and lowest minted (96). Both never lost any value the last 10 + years and seem to be the best or only Silver Eagles for us to own. I personally love collectible coins as I never have to watch silver daily prices. None of my coins ever have gone down in value and now starting to buy collectible silver bars. Will make videos soon.

Watch out for the newer ASE P mint slabbed coins also. I knew better, but took a gamble on one with the hope of selling it for a profit later. Two years later it had dropped like a rock in value so I sold it back to the online dealer I first bought it from for what I thought would be about half its original retail value. It gets worse. Once they had it in their possession they found some tiny milk spots on it which changed its status to a damaged coin. Milk spots can emerge at any time after grading no matter how careful your storage. I ended up selling it to them for melt. Lesson learned.

Hi Silver Wolverine! Thanks for letting us all know. There doesn't seem to be any price difference between the Philadelphia and West Point Mint differences. And, based on the information you shared, there would be no way to prove that the bullion coins were struck in Philadelphia in 2015. I don't believe we can trust even the fact that the straps were still on the monster boxes, how would WE really know? If there is no mint mark on the coin, then I don't believe we can rely on the information provided by the seller, 2015, or any other year. Thanks for covering this topic! 😎

I don't have the link to the article handy at the moment, but I read an article stating that ALL of the older, type one, silver eagles produced at West Point Mint are BURNISHED. The only difference between the ones with a W mint mark, that are sold directly to the public with a high premium versus WP silver eagles sold to certified vendors in monster boxes, is the 'W' mint mark. The added mint mark is merely a gimmick the WP mint uses to overcharge the public. Aside from the mint mark they are the EXACT SAME burnished silver eagle,

Great video!!!! You hit the nail!!! It is an stinky Gimmick to make money for PCGS and other grading companies that will grade a soda cap just to have more business. They make people collect plastic. If remove the coin from the slab struck at xxx, and resend the coin, the grading company will not able to tell where the coin was struck at. Now that you came out with this video. Can you talk about the ASE 2011-S? The mint release it with the set and called it Burnished but PCGS does not recognize it as SP? So, if this is not an SP burnished, then in reality is the lowest ASE bullion coin with a mint nmark. PCGS and the US mint did not reply to my request for clarification.

The minting location matters because not all mints are the same. You can only get them labeled if the whole box is submitted. These are monetized and have numismatic value like any other coin. Your argument applies to proof and unc. eagles with a mint mark like congratulations set or annual dollar sets if they are busted open they are just another eagle. Obviously they have value like the 2015 and that is based on mintage from said facility. People will look back and wish they had purchased these other mints slabbed.
@SilverWolverine952 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and I know we do not agree on this topic. If a congrats set is busted open from the slab.. True the congrats designation goes out the window.. But It's still a W proof from the west Point mint... The Bullion coin struck at which ever mint would be just a bullion coin without a mint mark and just another coin part of a 47 million mintage in 2015...

I've actually bought a couple graded (69) coins and popped them out of the slabs and put them in regular capsules, just ASEs I liked and wanted an extra of. But the implied mint marks, what a joke. I do have one of every bullion ASE in capsules and a nice presentation box. Here's another pet peeve: the "30th anniversary" on the labels of 2016 bullion ASEs!!! They made the proof and Uncirculated with the lettered edge, the bullion is reeded like any other bullion ASE, so why state 30th anniversary in the label??? Do they put 25th anniversary on the 2011??? And I still don't understand the mints math that the 1995 was the 10th anniversary, but that's a different topic.

Who cares where they were minted as long as they are genuine silver 100%

I'll Stack Siver for Weight at its Intrinsic value over Numismatics value and get more weight for my money.

I’m not sure if this is an informative video because I can’t follow… I think I’m going to use it as a drinking game this Friday night. Everybody takes a shot or a drink when this guy says American Silver Eagle…

If you buy it slabbed and crack it open. I want you to check the weight, the size, the thickness, the magnet and ping tests. Call the video "Slabbed coin, Is it Real?"

There are many ways to tell if your slab coin is real without cracking the slab case, what a mistake some will make.

I think that's a scam in itself lol

@@SilverWolverine95 not exactly a scam, but a marketing (successful) plan to keep those who buy graded coins engaged. It’s a love it or hate it system.

They are a beautiful coin, but when the SHTF, no one will care about that. They do gain in price. I have a tube of them, but they are also US Government issue coinage and cold be recalled. Ya right!!😝

Maybe not if you do a little bit more research that jewelry and collectible PM coins could be exempt from government seizure.

MM or none, it has everything to do with how many were officially minted. Period. Otherwise, you have to take away the legit premuim that the 1996 no mm bullion coin built over the years, until mid to late 20xx when it was defeated. That 96, one which I own that came from a casino in Nevada, is in circulated condition, but for the first 10 years or so, it was nice to hold one of the lowest minted bullion coins in the ASE series.

I know someone who buys a monster box of Eagles almost every year. I'm gonna call him right now and see if he has the 2015p's!

Just another gimmick created by the big coin dealers to get a whole lot of money from hard working people for a Silver Eagle that is just another run of the mill every day coin. Nothing special about it. Just one of 10's of millions of Silver Eagles minted that year. After this con job by the coin dealers I quit buying coins. The fun is gone. Dealers control prices now. Nowadays every Silver Eagle is rare when in reality nothing could be farther from the truth.
