Since 1955, El Tepeyac is one of the landmark Mexican restaurants in LA. They have a full menu of many delicious Mexican favorites, but this restaurant is most known for their Manuel Special 6 pound pork burrito! This is the biggest burrito in Los Angeles. This burrito feeds about 3 to 4 people, and very few have finished the entire burrito.

OMG! My favorite Mexican restaurant ever! My friend, Margaret Garcia, took me there in 1984. She grew up down the street and knew the owners. We never had to wait in line. I really miss eating there!

Another epic challenge, but I've tried it...sooo good but I ate 1/3 and had deliciousness for two more days!!!! I've actually saw 2 lapd officers finish one each, and when they finished, they challenged each other and raced up the street outside! Amazing! I just saw a pop up for you with Kimchi fries! Yes! Can't wait to see that one!!!

@@RockstarEater Drinking while you eat is what all the experienced/winning challengers do to wash down the food. They also make sure to witness the kitchen staff weigh the food so they know they aren't being served more food than is required by the challenge which occasionally happens because of course the restaurant doesn't want a lot of winners-. Some challengers even dip any dry food into water to get it down - like pizza crusts in a pizza eating challenge. [It is the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do if you want to properly digest your food.]

There used to be an El Tepeyac in Eagle Rock on Yosemite Drive and we would go there after school and get the Hollenbeck burrito every time. But that 6 pounder is not worth 35$.

El Tepeyac: Best hard shell tacos in LA. Period. and their Taquitos are 4 times bigger than anywhere else. and the cheese! tons of delicious chewy gooeyness! I usually get 2 tacos and 2 cheese enchiladas.

My dad took me there in 1968 and had a hollenbeck ... cost 65 cent! I remember seeing Manny special for maybe $1.25 but 110% sure it cost $1.35. Back then you had to eat 2 mannys to get then gratis. Legend says 3 USC football players were only ones able to do it. Oh and yes I've eaten one back then but mine wasn't free

The trick for these challenges is to have different flavors, maybe add some sauce or salsa to keep it interesting, otherwise your you'll get palette fatigue

Secret: Don't chew. There is nothing at all about the Manuel's Special that you have to chew. Everything is so tender. Another tip: Pull the tortillas apart from the rest and save them on a separate plate for last. It will be wet enough to eat. Then get a big spoon, not a fork, and attack the sauced pork, beans, rice, and guacamole mixture. Last tip: NEVER take a break. Once you stop, even for a minute, you're out of it. Your stomach will get the message that you're done. You're going to need something fizzy and sweet, like Mug root beer (not A&W, bubbles are too thick) to encourage the expulsion of gas pockets in your gullet. At the end, ball up the tortillas one at a time in your fist and power them down. I bet that "Beard" guy from KZbin could finish it in about 12 minutes. I wonder if he's ever gone over there. This was definitely the biggest burrito I ever had or have ever seen. I bought one for myself, didn't finish it until I took it home and ate the rest for dinner. I bought another one to go and split it up for my wife and four kids for dinner, and all together they couldn't finish half of it.

The pork chile verde in the Manuel's Special is AWESOME! You can get it in an "average size" burrito plate and its still great. I do suggest having some lettuce and tomato with the burrito to add a little crunch and acidity. The entire menu at El Tepeyac is fantastic. Never had a bad meal there... never.
