If you have electrical experience and know what you're doing its not that big of a deal. Most electricians work in hot panels and connect wires while they're hot. I mean can a hospital really afford to turn off its electricity, when you have patients on life-support? Even most HVAC technicians are working on hot circuits. Because most businesses can't afford to turn off the electric. I mean you can easily electrocute yourself plug-in in something to a receptacle, if you accidentally touched the prongs. Touching those wires are no more dangerous than touching an extension cord.

from my understanding of selling back to the grid, it requires you to be on the grid, or grid-tied so if the grid goes down, you go down with the way it's all integrated. Hence why a lot of solar diy'ers are not grid tied. I could be wrong, but I know there are problems with the grid-tied systems not letting your system stand alone by itself during power outages.

So does electricity end up cheaper this way?
@oilerlord65133 жыл бұрын
No. The value of a kWh is the same regardless if you generate it yourself, or buy it from the power company. People tend to believe solar-generated electricity is "free". It isn't. This guy found incredible deals (like I did buying my 41 solar panels on the used market), and also touted a Zero cost of installation, plus the ability to take advantage of big solar subsidies (in his area) to lower the overall cost of the project. For these reasons, people need to realize the implied very low cost of this particular solar farm isn't at all typical. Further, and given how he seemed to be guessing at the cost of his project, I think his numbers are off. I know my costs. To the dollar. No guessing required.

Good Job demonstrating different Solar Types and configuration. I have a 10 kw system attached to a 7.6kw inverter. Half the 10kw panels face East and the other half face West so you never get 10kw all at the same time which is great for the inverter. Peak summer i generate 60kwh/day and winter about 35kwh/day. Best banking power months are the winter months when the AC is off. Here in AZ. the AC costs are high and consume too much power. Rainy days hurt but AZ. is mostly sunny year round. My system barely supports two rigs.

I'm in Az too, Portal, and have 80 active panels, 12 more waiting to install. All microinverters. About 115-120 kWh per day this time of year. Do you really think it's an advantage having half face east and half face west?

@@portalminer8813 No I don't, but the majority of the panels are on the East and catch the morning sun. around 11:00 a.m. both sides of the house are hit by the sun until afternoon when mostly the west panels have sun. I agree on the micro inverters. You really only need them in shading areas. Hes in full sunlight so string inverters are best.
@deltoid77-nick4 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking that
@cr1m2034 жыл бұрын
Micro inverters also have other pros as well. One goes out the system stays on and they convert the power at the panel. if the string inverter goes out the whole system goes down. Each setup however is different for the users need.

This is the video that brought me back to mining and gave me "the fever". Living in Hawaii, NOBODY mines crypto. We have the highest electricity rates in the country by FAR. The electric company out here is corrupt as all hell as well and slows down the rate with which they allow people to use solar at their homes the way this man does. They claim the grid cant handle it, but they make no real attempts to upgrade the grid either. That being said i caught the fever bad. I currently am lucky enough to not have an electric bill so i dabble a bit. Ive got 2 RX 580's (A nitro+ and a red devil) just running phoenixminer/nicehash 24x7. Getting an average of 61.3 MH/s out of them. One only uses 84w(nitro), the other is at 97w. I use same settings in my launch parameters, so not sure why they are so different. Still yet, i think thats pretty good efficiency. Ive got a 5600xt lying around waiting to be put into a system, and my radeon VII just arrived today. This is so addicting. my clocks for those struggling or new: i use afterburner to peg the fans at 70%, everything else default. Within the miner i set the cards up at: core 1130, mem 2200, cvddc@825mv, mvddc@875 both cards stay anywhere from 59-65C depending on ambient temp. No AC. Thanks for your vids man, im subbed and they have been a huge help. I wish i had found this channel long ago.

I absolutely love that setup, amazing, but there is no way in hell that hes close to returning ROI on even one of those solar arrays plus his ten rigs.. no way.
@bitminerbob67314 жыл бұрын
Agreed. It looks like a fun hobby, but this doesn't look even remotely commercially viable, even with all the 30% tax credits or rebates included. Would have been better off just buying bitcoin with all the money spent on the solar setup.
@beefwantko72694 жыл бұрын
Yea and it’s not like I’m talking out of my ass, I grew up on a completely off the grid home, and I mine, maybe he will return Roi in 10 years, which is the average ROI of a solar setup not running 3000 wats to a mining farm
@peterclausen90104 жыл бұрын
@@beefwantko7269 10 years in today's market yes, but don't forget I caught the wave back in 2017 and was making over $500/day for a good while (and had several S9 miners back then as well). So yes, I'm a few years away from breaking even.
@pearce054 жыл бұрын
He said in the video that the first panels he installed in 2015 have almost paid for themselves already. You also have to calculate his cost per watt over the ~25 year life of the panels. I'm sure he'll be way ahead in short order.

@heisenballs3 жыл бұрын
Idk if its "normal practice" but he said the someone from the county and the power company went out and assessed it so it has to be up to the state/county electrical code.

Love it! I live in SE Missouri where there are rolling hills in and out of town. This would be perfect!!! I just have two questions though. Putting in all that effort, and he didn't go with a sun tracking system for his panels? That makes panels 5-10% higher efficiency. I've even read about "smart" tracking systems that use the panel's GPS location so that the motor moves it into position each night to catch the very first rays the next morning AND compensate for the position of the sun based on the earth's tilt an all that stuff! I know he mentioned hydro-power in the last few minutes of the video, but there was no mention of using wind power as well. I wonder why?
@scrappydogfinance84344 жыл бұрын
I heard the added complexity makes them unreliable
@KROOOZIN3 жыл бұрын
not only unreliable, but an incredible PITA to do DIY and then maintain. Those trackers can easily amount to 30% of the entire install, too.
