My favorite creature type that came out of the earlier rules is the "Wall" type. Before the big errata there was no such thing as "Defender" keyword, and instead Wall creature type had special properties as it can't attack. Imagine there is no such creatures as Wasps, Monsters, Bandits, but strangely Walls are creatures 😂

I remember doing a little research about this when building my defender deck, with Arcades as my commander. Some of my cards are versions from before this huge change, so I had to make sure I fully understood how it all worked.

yea I heard one of my friends making noise about Phyrexian errata happened and told him a butt load of Humans were not typed into the cards from older sets glad that this video gave us more context about such a deep game

Humans are a pretty weird creature type. Apparently there was a lot of resistance to adding them to Magic, according to Mark Rosewater, and they were only ultimately allowed to exist with the caveat that it should never be relevant - i.e., no cards with "all humans have X" - so the creature types remained fantastical. The fact that nowadays not only do those sorts of abilities are common for humans but also Humans are a common archetype in multiple formats - and, on top of that, there's a keyword (mutate) that interacts specifically with Humans - is quite the thing.

Genuinely great video, love how well you articulated your points. One tiny thing i have to mention because as a custom card creator it drives me bonkers when people miss it, that isn't a hyphen in the type lime, it's an em dash! (- vs -) extremely nitpick-y but i wanted to mention!

Great video! I’m always interested in creature types. Most of my decks are tribal and I like to decorate my deck boxes and choose appropriate play mats for each one.

Gameplay wise, It's cool that we now can have Phyrexian synergies, but lorewise, the idea of Phyrexia being a weird, indescribable horror that infects and "perfects" your former friends and allies into monstrosities was a really cool inclusion, ESPECIALLY during NPH, where these creepy doll-like things could be just clerics or soldiers, and these dagger-headed creatures could be rogues and wizards.

What's interesting to be is the shift in attitude. Mistform ultimus existed long before the creature type update and jokes were made about how he was a minor, an uncle or a sand witch. But at some point having goofy lore or funny technicalities became frowned upon.

Imagine the mass confusion because this wasn't done in the time of smart phones. You couldn't just look up a card on the spot if the wording was changed.

I jump around between favourites. I play Elves a lot in historic on arena. I have a mono blue merfolk commander deck built. I'm in the processing of picking up the pieces of a five colour, morophon changelings deck. With all those, there's always something in the back of my mind that I want to build like angels.
