I took part in the closed playtesting for Battlefield 2042 and have worked in QA and systems development in the games industry for almost a decade now. Never in my life have I seen a game studio so unwilling to accept tester feedback on their product. DICE and EA refused to make any meaningful changes or to even finish their game before they released it. We told them during testing the game needed another full year of development just to finish implementing basic multiplayer features, but they confidently assured us that we were wrong, and the game was going to be a smash hit. So they released it anyways and it instantly failed. Now the game is virtually dead, they've indefinitely delayed all of their future content that people have already paid for, and are using that time to implement the same changes they told us we were wrong about during testing. DICE is the most arrogant and conceded studio I've ever had the displeasure of working with in my career. They truly deserve all the failure they continue to create. Editing just to clarify I've never worked for DICE or EA. I signed up for a closed playtest and got lucky by getting an invitation. I just also happen to work in the gaming industry and have experience in QA from my early days. I find it disgusting that almost all the feedback from that playtest was willfully ignored and this game was rushed out the door so obviously incomplete. Thousands of normal Battlefield players took part in that closed playtesting weekend and they all were saying the same things as me on the private discussion forum EA had set up for feedback.

I remember when someone made a joke to a dev talking about how little cover maps in 2042 had, and the dev responded by saying "But look at this older Battlefield map and how empty it is!" And to everyone's dismay, it was a map from Battlefield 2, a 19 year old game. And it wasn't even a vanilla map, it was a map from a mod for it that released almost a decade ago. When the only way to make your maps look good is to compare it to a 10 year old mod for a 19 year game, I mean, I don't feel I even have to finish that thought. It's just that absurd. Devs didn't end there. When Elden Ring launched, a former UI dev that worked on 2042 had the guts to complain about how terrible Elden Ring's UI was.

I mean, to be fair though, UI has never been Fromsoft's strong suit. It's okay to like or even love a game and still recognize problems and shortcomings with it. Dark Souls is easily my favorite game franchise from any developer, but I'll admit in a heartbeat, the way the UI is set up is _inefficient_ at best, incompetent at worst, to the point where the UI's programming lead to many, many exploits in the original game. They also have had a long-running history of trying to recycle their most successful components from previous titles, regardless if it meshes with their current project or not, Dark Souls 3 being a prime example, it's not really "Dark Souls," more of Bloodborne 2: Iron Age. Still a successful project but that was mostly due to it being many players' first experience of Fromsoft, rather than on its own merits.

That intense moment in bf1 when your whole team is pushing the enemy line backwards, all poised around the next point with your squad, you send the command to attack and you blow down hard on your whistle, not only does your squad follow the initiative, but the whole team charges into the bullet fire, as a giant blimp explodes in the sky and falls down to the earth in blazing inferno, the music swells as your team works together, covering each other's backs and dismantling the enemy war machine... You forgot the part of artillery exploding mere feet in front of you as you charge through the incinerated remains of your first squadmate blown twenty feet into the air. You dive behind a rock as you watch a tanks LMG mow down your second squad mate. A nearby medic rushes to help your squadmate before his head explodes from a sniper. You watch in horror as a bomber crashes and explodes killing the rest of your squad. Only you remain alive. With nothing left to lose, you toss a grenade into the enemies trenches then bayonet charge into the one survivor of the grenade. You fire all of your ammo into the remaining trench defenders before resorting to killing the last defender with your shovel. You nervously hide in a corner reloading your gun as a squad of enemy troops run past you to the front trenchline, praying that your reinforcements will arrive before they find you.

One of the most frustrating things about Halo Infinite was the radio silence from 343 from like December to mid April. They practically just popped by once or twice to say "uwu there's so much work to do and we are so helpless, please give us time". Even now, we got a roadmap that was promised MONTHS ago, and there's probably a month or 2 worth of content that they intend on dragging out for 6 months. And the battle royale they're planning got outsourced to another company anyway! All 343 does is make Halo games so why the hell can't they make a Halo game?? The most tragic part is that someone, or some crew at DICE made this entire world and lore that still BEGS for a campaign: a post-apocalyptic world wracked by economic crises, climate disasters, satellites falling like God's middle fingers on Job, total social collapse, a migrant crisis even Jean Raspail would consider depressing, and the last battles between the two remaining superpowers of the planet slowly degenerating from hi-tech scuffles to flat-out nuclear annihilation for its last resources. Battlefield 4 actually has most of its player base on Origin, it surely has a bigger player base than 2042. I find it funny but I had fun when BF4 released. Yet again I only played with friends at first so we were just having a good laugh at the bugs, and it actually felt like there was content; and they actually fixed it too. 2042 just feels like EA took a massive shit on a plate and served it as gourmet.

Bf4 launch was not as bad as 2042s. Yeh for the first couple weeks the game was quite buggy and had server connection issues but they were pumping out content at launch. the game had 2 dlcs out within the first couple months and loads of fixes. it’s been like 6 months since bf2042 came out and the only ‘content’ they’ve added is a couple of skins and some QOL features that should have been in the game since launch.

Here is what happened: Battlefield wanted to clone Warzone, but then converted the game back from BR to a normal FPS halfway through.

Had a coworker trying to tell me about the 3 new operators last night. As a 33yr old who's favorite FPS games were BF BC2-4 it took everything I had in me not to strike him.

I still can't wrap my head around the marketing tactic (not even sure if i can call it that) of shaming/ villifying the people that buys your product. what do you gain from publicly hating your customers? it can't even be classified as guilt-tripping, it's just a straight up "fuck you"

It's been weird for me to watch this and other game releases. Normally, I'm used to the customer being an irrational idiot and customer service trying to calmly reason with them. The script has flipped lately with game companies. The players are the rational ones trying to improve the product and the companies are just irrationally lashing out and refusing to listen.

It becomes normal nowadays. Remember GTA Defective Edition? Grove Street Games devs laughed at people who criticized them because they made money. It's all about making quick buck now, they don't give a fuck if they have a job in the next decade or still have to pull some scams, all that matters is *now*.

The fact Halo launched without Co-op or Forge... and they said it would take a year+ to implement them... like what.
