Visited the store a couple weeks ago travelled 163 miles my local maiden head is Shrewsbury. It was well worth it I've never seen such variety the place is huge compared to every other maiden head I've visited. And so many cracking display tanks, most I visit tend to only have one or two tops!

To be fair, I *would* watch a 4+ hour tank-by-tank video, but maybe not in one sitting. Hearing Matt talk more in depth about the different fish species is fascinating, and the banter between you two is always lifting spirits. Maybe group them into separate videos, e.g. one about livebearers, one about cichlids, one about catfish, one about rarer species, etc.?

I love the fact that you’re willing to create ‘finished’ tanks in an aquarium shop. I liken it to the bathroom and kitchen displays in places like B&Q and other home stores. No one wants to see just a shelf of ‘bits’ they want to see how it will all look set up as it would be at home!! All fish shops should do this!!

I live in Colorado in the US and my koi and goldfish have already stopped feeding for the winter. They will just sit at the bottom barely moving throughout the winter until the water warms back up. My pond completely freezes every year with just a few small holes where the bubblers/waterfall is.

1:05:24 - We do this all the time the plants get massive, BUT be careful as the roots start to pack up in the corners getting tight and start to lift then grow under the silicone, then in time it will make the tank leek and eventually split and come apart slowly on the corners. What I do is pull the plants up every 2 months or so and check the silicone and re-seat the plant back in, or just pull it up and put it back in helps, try not to trim the roots as they just come back even bigger and stronger than before! Matt has the experience with fish species that I could listen to on hours. I saw his need to explain the different Pygmy Cory’s be hauled by the rush of the video. Those habrosus Cory’s really do deserve a spot light. A Cory that looks and behaves like the larger ones but only reaches an inch. You can keep so many in a smaller tank and when you do you get to see so many fascinating natural behaviours. It’s awesome. It would be really hard to house 20 sterbi Cory properly.

I was thinking my water lettuce wasn't doing well cause I had three plants with a little bit of yellowing (out of 20 total plants), but then I saw the water lettuce in that pond at 4:05 and it made me feel better about my water lettuce! Edit: Just want to say that I completely agree with your point about the tanganykin cichlids, and I feel that applies to many, many freshwater tanks. As an example, the Walstad tank in my classroom houses a betta fish (siamese fighting fish), 3 mystery snails and 2 red ramshorn snails. They all originated from different parts of the world, but can live perfectly fine together in captivity.

I’m on the canister camp on this. I know they’re more expensive but they do take up a much smaller footprint. Also I agree with what you said about the tank creating heaps of bio surface area. However if you’re like me and enjoy completely rescaping your tank every 2 years then atleast the bio filter is all ready to go. I do like the slightly extra flow. I also like inline heating and inline CO2 and I like glass and stainless outlet and intake hardware. I find maintenance to be quite enjoyable and therapeutic. Do a look at every tank but maybe a section at a time to keep the length down. I truly like Matt store I wish it was on this side of the large Atlantic pond. The shop is impressive and I am kind of envious of MD having a place to shop for fish with such a selection. I would like to see the area outside when the pond and garden section restarts next year. With Atlanta GA as big as it is it don't have butva couple of family owned fish and they are a long way from my house and not nearly as impressive as Matt's shop. Mostly we have like the Petco and Petsmart big box shopes which has the staple fish and never any rare types. However do like Petco when they have their tank sale at a $1US or a 1.13 £/gallon you can get up to a 40 gallon /150 liter breeder aquariums at that price. But their larger tanks do come down quite a bit usually 20-40% off for tanks up to 55-100 gallon/ 298-378 liters aquariums. And once they get over that it standard price. However they are not the low iron glass. You never see a MBU puffer or FW stingrays. Most family owned business here cater to saltwater Marine life with a very small section for freshwater. You have to do order over the internet fir the less common aquatic life which personally I don't like because part of procuring fish is being able to pick the ones you like. Plus the shipping and handling get pretty high unless you are buying either high dollar fish or large volume. I enjoy going to the fish store looking around to see what available even if I am not buying at the moment. It fun to imagine and contemplate new fish and scaping ideas. I use to help out at a fish store in south Florida years ago on weekends; I did it for several years and my time was traded out in equipment, food and fish. But I moved and had to quit. But I still miss it. It was fun to help customers select their fish and watch children's excitement over selecting each fish. And then their was always some one with a lot more experience that would tell you their aquarium stories both the good and the bad. But my favorite was the children when they come in with their parents to get food or more fish; the kids would tell me stories about their fish and some were about their fish that were having babies. Oh how they proud and happy about it; then you would get the chance to teach them how to take better care of those new babies. A maybe a week or two later they would come back in to give me updates. Then there was those times they come in and tell me a fish had died or the babies got eaten they were so sad. And you help them to understand it part of the fish life and the opportunity to help them to do better the next time. Most of the time it was about live bearers like guppies, mollies or plates that were producing the babies, but to them it was all magical. You could see their enthusiasm boiling over. And you knew they truly experiencing something special that would help them have a life long joy for the hobby. I truly miss those precious moments I shared with them. That was over 40 years ago but it seems like it was just yesterday. So everytime I watch you videos a Matt's establishment it brings back those memories and it makes me smile. And if I could go around Matt's store it would take me hours because I would have to check out every tank much like those little children; so yes I would like to see each and every tanks as if I was there looking at each one for myself.

I kind of wanted to get started in fish keeping again after watching your videos, but after watching the fish shop tour, I definitely will! I'm 62 and have had aquariums almost all my life. I have a 55 gallon tank that I've had for about 35 years sitting on my front porch empty. You absolutely need to paint him up some Tyranids Matt, give them a coat of polyurethane and set them in one of the planted tanks. One or two Catachan Jungle fighters just to give it some drama. Unbelievably cool, hasn't been done, and opens up what is otherwise an untapped resource of reasons to do more tanks. Everyone wants to do it. They just need to see it done

i have a Chindongo Saulosi Malawi tank with 12 in there and there just growing up and morphing in colour great fish to keep i feel so much more connected to them than i ever did with mY planted tank, they only get about 10cm and are semi aggressive so are not a total nightmare to keep either, the males start yellow and turn blue as they get older and they look incredible

Thanks MD and Fish Shop Matt ( Owner ) 🤔 Great video and the whole place is awesome. Looks somewhat familiar and yet there is always something that you have never seen before and the best of the fish shop tour is obviously to get the best thing going on KZbin and to.get to hang out with the 2 of you ....talking about fish , plants , past scapes & the plans for the future scapes !!!! It's going to stay busy and the best time for the shopping is coming any day so you guys should get everyone in on a good old-fashioned competition and all the customers can be the Judge . The small tanks from outside the shop are perfect and on December 23rd everyone who cast a vote is eligible to win one of the aquariums ? The winner of the contest will have the title and make it a yearly event??? 🤔

Just found MD recently, love MD and Matt!!!! Wish you guys were local here in the States!!! I’m an amateur, only have 3 tanks, a 55, 35 and 30 gal. Can only dream of having my tanks look like yours, in my dreams!!!
