Rimuru flex was waaay more intense in the novel than the anime. The manga even got one of the little side stories about a soldier who was just wanting to get back to his wife and daughter and was one of the injured but not killed. Rimuru landed near him and all he had in his hand was a locket with his daughter's picture in it and he crawled to rimuru and begged him not to kill his children. Confessed that he knew what he was doing was wrong and that he deserved death but they didn't. Rimuru took his locket. Looked at the picture. Put it back in the man's hand. And dropped the line. "Speak no more. I have no need for their lives. Rest assured I will not take them." Then boom laser through the head.

Still p***** me off to this day that the terrible anime adaptation of an amazing right novel series couldn't even be bothered to spend the 10 seconds worth of animation to show one of the most amazing flexes in Isekai history. Using his transmutation magic to open a hole Underneath of the charging wanna be hero man baby, Who still p***** off that Hajime killed the demon woman That almost killed his entire party, When Hajime Refused to do his petty a**. Once hero boy fell on the hall he promptly threw in 3 grenades and then sealed the top back up with just a breathing hole as the grenades went off one flash Bang, 1 tear gas, And one sonic. San altaniously blinding him deafening him and making him breathe toxic fumes. Then told his friends if They wanted him back to dig him out themselves and walked off! Like I said amazing flex and I will never forgive the studio for editing that out of the novel. Just one of the amazing scenes they cut to cram 4 novels into 11 and a half episodes. I know it has 13 but the recap episode doesn't count and half the others episodes were all recaps anyways.... At least they did a slightly better job with season 2.

On the subject of older series you should check out, I highly recommend Gad Gard. Gad Guard came out in 2003, so it's basically 20 years old now, and has this great grungy retro-future aesthetic. One of the main characters of the series, Katana, is basically going around subtlety flexing on everyone around him because he's just that good; he's so good at operating the giant robots called Heavy Metals that he has a reputation for being able to operate them incredibly well and has a considerable fee for just helping someone with a job for more than a few minutes, and often asks for a significant portion of the payment upfront. When someone seems to operate a Heavy Metal better than him, Katana will not take it lightly, he will hunt down the user and show them that it was a fluke and they just got lucky. And through it all, Katana is subtely flexing on everyone around him

I am with Nux on this one a lot of gate is poorly written, maybe the LN is better but the anime suffers from a lot major problems with it's logical story telling. For one of the many examples we have the man that is being blackmailed ( I forget his position). How does he get out of it, he quits his job which is not at all how blackmail works. If I were the blackmailer I would release the info I had then taken advantage of the fact that he quits to imply that it was even more shameful than what it was. The result being that the man's life would be even worse of and I could have done some damage to the reputation of Japan. But of course this is GATE and everything is solved by Japan punching the world in the face and suffering no consequences at any point.

Okay, here's the three biggest flexes (I know of) in any light novel. 1. Context: The Author does 'what if' stories where the MC goes down an evil path instead of good and writes those stories to their conclusion. Natsuki Subaru... Through his own means... Defeated Reinhardt Astraea and put an entire country to the torch after killing all of the Sin Archbishops... Because he wanted to give Emilia the credit for killing him, the final Archbishop of Sin, 'Pride'. 2.(Spoilers for Shield Hero) He reversed the Thanos snap. A goddess (literal) tried to erase him twice. The first time he was saved by exterior forces, but the second time she wasn't playing around and attacked him with an unstoppable ability that would 'Erase you from all time, all dimensions, all pocket dimensions, all memories, and all forms of existence in any and all planes.' And... He reversed it. She started spitting fire and rage about how she would escape as he began quoting her lines back at her, and she just going on and on before finally he says 'Shut the fuck up. Escape your own ability, then talk bullshit.' And walked away. 3. Arifureta: Casual Orbital Bombardment in Brazil(?) over the phone because he was too busy to go there himself, party crashing literal hell on a casual vacation, being one of the only isekai protags to actually bring his family to the isekai world and casually go back and forth between worlds with friends, and even got the whole magic powered harem legally married to him in Japan (including one girl who literally died). All of them. Even the ones who didn't have an interest during the primary story. These are some of the minor flexes. Yes, minor. The man's biggest difficulties are trying to appear normal while on Earth, his habit of weaponizing literally every trinket he can get his hands on, and not losing a fight to... A side character whose original gag was that nobody noticed them even when he was talking to them, that turned out to be an actual power.

TENSEI SLIME IS JUST TOO GOOD FOR FLEXING. In Vol. 15 of the light novel where Veldora is captured and soul washed and Rimuru goes to save him but he'd have to fight against Veldora's sister - Velgrynd. This fight was an absolute goosebump-inducing event where he evolves his Ultimate skill Raphael to Ciel (basically, such an overpowered skill that it absorbs most of his skills into itself and FUCKING GAINS CONSCIOUSNESS). He also evolves into A FUCKING TRUE DRAGON after defeating and eating Veldora to save his soul core (MID-FIGHT) then proceeds to humble Velgrynd. Honestly, he should have just then killed Rudra/Ludora but I guess the story needed more milking. OH, and I forgor to include that he summons the remaining 3 ancient demons, names them, evolves them. That makes 4, including Diablo (who should have done wayyyyy more in the story but he's too powerful and the story would just end) tldr: Rimuru is a badass and I just don't have any data while travelling so I read too many light novels.

I know that he does get defeating in the web novel but I've been trying to avoid spoilers cause the web novel is not a completely immersive reading experience like vol 15 was.

That was a Cobra attack helicopter, so that wasn't a GAU-8, which is mounted on the A-10 Warthog. The GAU-8 30mm Rotary Autocannon is too big and too powerful to mount on a Cobra, it would rip itself off the mount if they tried. It was 'merely' the GAU-6 which is the 20mm version, and the same one used in the Phalanx CIWS anti-missile system. Same rate of BRRRRRRT, but slightly smaller rounds so the helicopter doesn't destroy itself every time it pulls the trigger.

Since it wasn't, all it really did was piss the thing off until someone pulled out a Stinger and blew its arm off. I will agree that seeing a dragon getting sawed in half by BRRRRT is a thing that needs to happen more frequently.

To be fair, if you go into Gate for the “modern world vs ancient army” aspect you’ll be pretty disappointed, and s1 is basically that plus collecting characters. Season 2 is very different. The politicians on both sides get involved and it’s 100% about the political infighting in Japan and in the Empire. Honestly, I didn’t particularly like S1, but I’m glad I watched S2.

eh "modern world vs ancient world" goes about as well as you would expect, guys with shields and swords will never represent a credible threat to a modern day force unless they were fighting like mexican cartels or african warlords and even then it would probably be an even fight, its mostly for the fun because realistically any regular magical medieval setting would get shit on by any modern military

Slime spoilers! Rimuru is one of the biggest walking flexes in the light novel. The entire war arc against the empire is just one massive flex. Bro did yet another slaughter in this war and used his enemies souls to evolve all of his top subordinates into true demon lord's. At a fucking reward ceremony. He did this in front of all of the nations of the alliance. He didn't have to do that. He very much could granted these rewards privately after the ceremony but nope. Rimuru did this essentially to flex on all of the allied nations DURING A WAR! 👏Next👏flex👏 There are seven total primordial demons in existence, Guy Crimson and his 2 maids are 3 and the rest of them follow rimuru and aside from Guy all become true demon lord's because of timuru. Rimuru single handedly evolved 6 out of 7 primordial demons that had lived since the begining of hell itself into true demon lord's. 4 of which are completely loyal to him 👏next👏flex👏 When Velzard and Veldora fought and Veldora ends up under the emporors control Rimuru goes over there and beats up both of them simultaneously. To put this into perspective these are true dragons of which only 4 exist. These are the strongest creatures in the world with mind blowing amount of magicules and ultimate skills. And rimuru beats up two of them simultaneously evolving into a true dragon himself.
