Crossout is a card that only makes sense in the TCG if you already happen to run the handtraps that hit your deck heavily. Part of the reason the card saw a lot of play on release (aside from hype) was that Tri Lyrilusc was already playing droll for the mirror, and nib for everything else. both cards that hit the deck very hard so the crossout was always live
@johnblunt6693 Жыл бұрын
It's also a card that is significantly better in meta decks than rouge since the likely hood of facing a mirror is significantly higher and you're probably already playing the same handtraps that hurt you

In OCG, the gameplan is to resolve the main play as consist as possible so if people know which card is counter your deck (Nibiru for example) player would play Crossout to counter those handtrap staple to try to resolve their gameplan. It's not popular in TCG I think because people can just play Extender to play through those Hard handtrap or simply play something else instead (That's one of the reason why TCG really like to combine different deck together to play incase you got handtrap)

Another issue is that not every format has a clear answer on what handtraps to use. Nibiru, Droll, Dimensional Shifter, etc all come and go depending on what is the meta threat but diverse formats need diverse handtraps. Ash was reliable to see years back but now most decks don't run it (or at least not as much as a go-to option). Besides, at the highest level of play, people are purposely playing with respect to said handtraps. High level Kashtira-players will play around Nibiru, as opposed to running Crossout. That all being said, I do like Crossout as it has a specific niche use and is very well desigend for mono-formats. People will always consider it as a tech choice and try to calculate the probabilities of success to failure. This is better than pack filler, at the very least.

cross out is the perfect example of a tier 0 check. for it to see too much use the meta or indivitial careds have too be to powerful and widely used. the OCG was the perfect example of this where because max c is so easy to activate and so powerful cross out was a good anti max c card, max c was being played anyway so it took up no extra slots. the tcg shows the better format where cross out is just ok and need specific type of decks to be used in and the cross out has the likely downside of taking more than the playset in the deck

Another way to put it is: Crossout Designator is like a Counterspell in magic the gathering. Its there to prevent a response from your opponent or to prevent said opponent from making a board you can't handle. The distinction however is that Crossout Designator unlike Counterspell is meta dependent. You need to be playing with others who run certain decks regularly for Crossout to see play. Like if the people you are playing with, maybe friends, who are just playing some table 500 decks, Crossout looks a lot less appealing if the cards it can hit is much more reduced. The reason Crossout Designator in the OCG saw as much play as it did is because it was a tourney card as you know what people are bringing to tournaments.

I do love what you had said about the big difference between the OCG and the TCG being they play to not lose while we play to win because that philosophy is incredibly correct. If we try to play a card that may not be good in every situation we see it as terrible why bother playing this. I do think that this card becomes better and better when metas are less diverse and a bit more predictable say kash format I'm still shocked it wasn't played in tear format. All in all I think this card is still powerful but unfortunately this card by the time it finally hit the TCG was just too late. I think that's honestly why it didn't see as much success. If this card would have come out right about the same time the OCG got it we would have seen a lot more play here but the game was too fast and too strong by the time we finally got it. And that says more about the balancing problems of Yu-Gi-Oh that it does the strength of this card which is why I feel really bad for stuff like this and other cards that take forever to get imported

Barrier which are cards the deck can side in, and it would have worked well in Tearlaments Format for the mirror or even sniping common answers to the deck. But between the ridiculous scalping and Konami intentionally hitting Called by just to try to sell the thing(yeah there's more to it than that, but Called by being both a lower rarity print and later a structure deck pickup made it too availible compared to its effectiveness), I'm not surprised a lot of people might have just refused to use it out of spite(or budget).

However in TCG, crossout is used to counter mirror match, especially when compete tier 0 and tier 1 deck. During tier 0 Tearlement terrozing TCG player can used crossout to negate havnis. Yes this also cause your unable to used havnis so that why player go keldo and Mudora over crossout in TCG. Conclusion here role of Crossout designator in TCG is different compare to OCG and MD. I wouldn't say crossout "flopped", I'd say it's not designed to be played in a healthy format, and so it doesn't see a lot of play in such. If there is a main deck card that is way too powerful and is seeing widespread play, you have the option of playing crossout while konami doesn't ban said problem card. It's not a meta defining card by any means, but in a lot of formats, it's a very valid niche tech card.

No this isn't one of the biggest flops. Crossout Designator is somewhat effective against Ash (sadly it is worthless against extra deck monsters). You know what flopped harder? Naturia pineapple. It was designed to help you bring out Naturia Bamboo Shoot easier and allow people to play that archetype in the main deck. However, the Rescue Cat Engine was banned and it turned out pineapple doesn't work without Rescue Cat. Also Naturia Bamboo Shoot might be a better card if it could not be affected by effects not activated from the field (Effect Vieler works on it, you don't even need to summon a monster with a negate). Grapha dragon lord of the dark world was also a dud at first. People feared them enough that most sided in a copy of Ghost Belle at first but they didn't preform so well. Dark world would later on get some tops in tournaments, but OG Grapha often was only a side deck option. Lair of Darkness also got big hype. Those decks lost against almost every matchup against Sky Striker, Orcust, and Thunder Dragons (especially strikers oddly enough even though I'd think it'd be the strongest against them). Then there was Spell Chronicle. The price of this useless card skyrocketeted after, as a joke or something, 7 different guys who topped regionals bought a bunch of them and said it was going to be the next meta. It was clearly a joke, but they really did purchase them. One of them even said he'd buy all the copies he could. The masses of players assumed that Spell crhonicle could trigger the Shaddoll effects (it doesn't) and the prices reached $31 per card. All of these flopped harder than Crossout in terms to the hype to usability ratio. At least Crossout does see some play in sidedecks. In fact all of the cards I mentioned as flopping did see play (except Spell Chronicle) but in terms of top cut shows Crossout saw the most, which was admititly very little and only in the sidedeck but still more than the other flops.

I don't see what your point is? Crossout was hyped by a lot of people that, just like in the OCG, it was going to be this insane, must-include-immediately staple that you would run for years in your decks. Alas, that didn't ring true. Yes, it wasn't (and still isn't) a worthless card, and it has lots of potential applications, but it oftentimes gets relegated to just passing thoughts, theorizing, or just off-meta side deck picks. In that sense, the card did very much flop, and that's what this video is about.

@@TWLSpark My problem is the video title, if it just said "Cards that flopped: Crossout Designated" I'd be fine, but calling this one of the "biggest" flops is a hard sell to me given that every 3rd tournament it's in the sidedeck of someone in the top 8, possible even the tournament winner.

I love how this channel explain about differences of mentality in TCG and OCG, but people just blind for C. Even in video already give some examples the usage of Crossout beside countering Maxx C. TCG loves aggressive card that can give opponent's a pressure, in this case, Crossout will never be aggressive card. But OCG, they play it defensively. If their deck lose to Nibiru and this card is common that format, just add Nibiru. Your deck lose to Impermanence, add Impermanence as target.

Crossout designator was hella used in master duel to the point it had to be limited for its heavy use.

I feel like Crossout Designator is one of those extremely situational cards, which primarily relies on a huge generic staple card like Maxx "C" to see widespread use.

Agreed. To me playing Master Duel (and generally.) it seems like a massive bricky card. Waiting to happen. You have to take the broadest guess and add those(s) cards to your deck. And since the 1st Turn player only draws 5 cards. It's even more of an liability to you. If you open with this as your only spell card. And the rest of your hand terrible. You're going to loss. For example, imagine playing Elemental Heroes. No spells nor elemental hero Stratos. And obviously you'll have other hand traps as well. Worst case scenario. What if you fight a rouge deck, like Banish.Exe?! Crossout designator is worthless against them. It's only real value will be in mirror matches. Branded/Despia, most likely. And in that case, Super Polymerization will have more impact and stronger net positive. Taking their mirror Jade Dragon, to make your Mirror Jade Dragon instead.

it's crazy how the lack of maxxx c can make crossout designator virtually unplayed in the TCG.

I just wanna point out as much as alot of people are like 'but da bug is so bad!' konami hasn't changed SS mechanics around the bug, ya know whay they have started to change card design though? Ash they've started making 'ash proof' searchers just so people can get combo pieces and the like so really whats more meta defining? A bug that has the potential to do something or a known staple that there now designing search cards around.

Curious, HOW would you even design the concept of special summoning around maxx "c"...? Unless you're thinking inherent special summons but even then the roach would be a literal turn skip if you did in DP/SP phase
@yamiangelous Жыл бұрын
Funny enough you could solidify the summons as a inherit part of the game, a link summon is not a 'special' summon it's a link summon same with fusion, xyz, or synchro. A special summon should classify as 'im ignoring the conditions to summon this card to cheat it out ergo special summoning it' otherwise why bother having all these other forms of summoning if it's all just classified as a 'special' summon and yet have trap/spell cards that target that specific mechanic (because mr4 made you need to do them thru link summoning outside of the emz)

@@worthywill9294 Spright all of the inherent summon, Floowandereeze multiple normal summon, Tear spam summon in any turn, Rescue-ACE minimum summon but maximum backrow disruption, and other control deck like Labrynth or Runick.

@@renaldyhaen even if I wanted to take the time to pick apart that example. We're missing the point completely, the original post was talking about we have to build cards around ash Blossom.... yet using your example *(while again ignoring the flaws in spright and arguably tear off the top of my head)* we're looking at entire decks and the response prior literally rewriting the rulebook/game mechanics
