My mom had 9 children. We lived in the country in Michigan, and she made most of our clothes, and most of our Christmas gifts. She took old glass beer bottle boxes, that the lids were deep and stiff cardboard, and turned them on ends, and made a "wardrobe closet" for all the "barbie" clothes she made, covering the outside with contact paper. She even put a rail in the lids, to use as hanging rods. She made one for each of 4 girls she had at the time, who were old enough for Barbie dolls. I really wish I had that now! She is now a grandmother of almost 30 and great grandmother, still counting (my daughter is due at the beginning of September). She made the oldest 4 granddaughters beautiful Barbie clothes, and "quilts" for their beds, that have little fancy girls, dressed and labeled for the months of the year. It's so precious, I've never had my daughter, now 35, put it on her bed! Most of my family is not sentimental, so if they have something my mom made, they always say, "Give it to Lisa, she'll take it!". And I do! My twin sister was having a garage sale, and went to sell several beautiful things my mom, knitted, needlepointer, painted, sewed, etc.. I asked if I could have it, because there will be a time when my mom isn't here, and we'll never be able to replace those beautiful items she made, with love. My husband is also sentimental, so we've become hoarder, of sorts, of things we had from childhood, and things made with love. All four of my children are minimalists, so they didn't take anything with them when they left our house to live on their own. We don't have the heart to get rid of their things, so we've become savers of their childhood too. But when grandchildren come to visit, they LOVE going to our basement, to find toys to play with. I'm hoping my two sons have children, and will want their childhood toys, many of which, are now vintage. I believe it's so important to keep items made for you, by your mother or grandmother, because that well will be gone one day, when she graduates to her heavenly home!

Don't clip them. You have to weave the yarn ends into the same colored pieces. The finishing touches of completing the blanket. It is beautiful.

Beautiful crochet throw - would recommend leaving the yarn without clipping because the buyer can then weave the tails into the squares to protect the integrity of the finished work. I have used the nail polish strips and they are great - so much cheaper than the salon. Love watching you in your great videos! I appreciate all of your work and thought that you put into these videos. Be blessed, dear Karen and Roger!

The person who made the blanket was going to line the back. Your suppose to leave the yarn long enough to sew in the ends. I would put it local and explain that it will need a lining for the back or leave it off and people will understand what to do.

I am a knitter and crocheter with decades of experience and I learned never to knot the yarn of a finished piece. I was taught to weave the loose ends into the back. The loose ends of your afghan may just need to be trimmed but not cut off completely. This is my experience, others might have a different finishing technique. I hope that was helpful.
@bjohnson1149
@bjohnson1149 Жыл бұрын
I'm a crocheter, Karen. Don't clip those threads on the back. You'll be sorry. Even if knotted they can unravel and the whole thing is ruined. Whoever made this spent countless hours but they were not detailed in their work or they wouldn't have left those loose yarn threads on the back. The proper thing to do is weave those into the piece with a yarn needle. They took the lazy man's way out.

I am a crocheter and that blanket is beautiful! I think the person who made this is either in a nursing home and unable to crochet anymore or they passed away. She probably had a chest or closed full of crocheted items!! I personally weave in my ends as I go. I don’t want to have to weave my ends in when I finish! Ugh! Also, I do knit my ends. I leave a long end to weave in. I’m so afraid of them working their way out over time. 💝

My daughter was a consultant for the color street nail strips. They are very popular and quite expensive. She still sells them occasionally. She did well enough selling them and recruiting consultants that she earned an all paid cruise to Cozumel. She actually fell immediately after delivering some strips to a patron and broke both her ankles and her leg the week before Christmas 2021. It was a long hard 7 months before she could walk, several surgeries. She is doing well now, but of course, has some lasting affects from all the trauma of the fall and surgeries. They are very durable and you can actually get more than one application from a single strip. That was a good pick up, I would say.

I also have severe osteoporosis and have broken my left elbow my right wrist several vertebra and ribs. As I am by myself right now I am extremely careful about falling because my balance is not so great on top of everything else. It might be because of my age which today I just turned 68 years old, but I hope that she is not still in pain any longer and I'm sure that is hurt terribly bad especially when it happened and then after the surgery when she had to do rehab for I'm sure months and months. When you first showed the doll, I thought her face looked familiar. Then the more I looked at her, I became sure that I had once owned a doll with the same face. She was so pretty to me and had that gorgeous red/burnished copper hair. That was the reason I had purchased her. I have only one grandchild, and she has the same exact color of hair. My doll had both eyes the same color, almost a blue-green. She came with a teddy bear as well. I really did love that doll, and so did my beautiful granddaughter, who is now 25 years old. I had planned on giving it to her as she is a new bride and decorating their first apartment together. However, a few months ago, we were robbed, and the doll was stolen along with my washer, dryer, refrigerator, our bed, and many things from my granddaughter's childhood. But I love your channel and watch it all the time. I just wanted to let you know that I think there were more of the dolls made, and some with various changes, my doll had a yellow dress with smocking on the yoke. I do think the change in eye color will make her more valuable, and I also think she is worth quite a lot of money. She was the most expensive doll I had ever purchased.

The doll is Samantha and she's numbered on her neck. The one I found did not have two different colored eyes. Her insert says that she has blue eyes.

The nail polish strips are amazing. I don’t use that brand, but the brand I use stays on my fingers for over two weeks…even with my hands in soap water and dirt throughout the week.

Fascinating story of your Mom. Didn't hear you mention she was a dollmaker! It's where you get your wonderful attention for details! Thanks for sharing. 😊 Sweet memory!

No longer playing with dolls, but that doll is impressive. Her clothing is exquisite. Her eyes...who cares! Quality! My mom was an impressive doll maker also. Is that a PA thing?

You got a great deal on the ColorStreet. I used to sell it and I love them. If your nails are shorter, you can get 2 manicures and a pedicure out of each pack . When you have leftovers, seal the packet with a flat iron to avoid allowing them to dry out. The glitters last the longest. Be sure not to put lotion on right before and up to 2 hrs after applying. Also they need to cure for up to 2 hrs so don’t wash dishes or take a shower. The best time is right before bed because they won’t get messed up during the night. Unlike regular nail polish. If there are any overlays… they are awesome and they also have a clear coat that will keep the manicure fresh longer. Enjoy!

Karen you look absolutely gorgeous in the pink…and those earrings!! I’m continuously amazed at what you pick up. I see similar things at times and wonder if I would do as well since I’m not on KZbin. I glean a ton of info from your videos. Thank you!!

18:35 You can soak in tub, and then, with clean feet, step on it, stomp, get alll the water out, and then it won’t be too heavy to hang or lay flat on a sheet, towels,etc ❤

That doll was sold on QVC. The Lancaster QVC outlet before the renovation had a doll department. I was obsessed back in the 90s.

Hi Karen and Roger! I think the yarn strings on the back of the afghan might have been left that way intentionally as an artistic touch. A definite possibility if all the yarn ends are the same length. I would market it as having a unique, shaggy reverse side.
