Girls can slip easily into a state of mind where they lose too much weight, sometimes to the point where their own organs break down. This is NOT healthy. This may encourage more girls to adopt unhealthy weight loss, to the point where it injures them. It's about where is this going to lead, and the lack of safe motivations from the show. They should be motivating people to be healthy, not to lose more weight than they need to and trade their health for MONEY.

Many people in Asia are always slightly under the healthy index and we're perfectly fine, I rather be slightly under the health index than to be massively over the health index. Besides, she's not starving herself, she's exercising and eating less, that's not bad. Unless she starts developing bulimia or anorexia, I don't see any problem in this.

Rachel Lim True. And it also depends on the weight of the bones, the % muscle or the % fat, each must take into account each individual, individually.
@denisenova74946 жыл бұрын
Rachel Lim: She isn't Asian though. Asians are tiny and have a different body frame and smaller bone structure. It's often hotter in their countries. That's basic biology. Bergmann's law. Even animals in colder countries have more mass and are bigger. The average German or Scandinavian girl is taller and has bigger hips and shoulders with a different bone structure. So even the skeletons would look bigger next to Asians. So they have to weight more and need more amount of food and they gain weight more easily. Same goes for people in cold countries like Russia. Guess where most white people in the USA are from? Right: Europe. Often Germany or Great Britiain.

@@denisenova7494 The problem with how you reason is that you basically tether your entire argument on Bergmann's law and then attribute that to humans. Bergmann's law is mainly for animals, and the major critique of it is that it has very little to do with latitude but with how long the food availability lasts. In northern countries, it lasts fewer months than in southern. I was going to tell you to check the actual statistics on body composition and bone density whilst also adjusting for starvation cycles in these countries. But I feel that would just shoot straight over your head so I am just going to say this: CHECK THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE. WHERE ARE THOSE PLAYERS FROM? ARE THEY SHORT?

Oh, and yo-yo-ing is another dangerous possibility. The stress it puts on the body to lose weight quickly, does harm to every internal system. That harm shows up later in life, so people don't make the connection. To gain the weight back, creates even more damage. Fat stores toxins. Fat is a great protector. So, while it is unhealthy to be obese, losing weight needs to be done in a way that doesn't attack the body/hate the fat (as fat is a good thing in moderation). When you lose weight quickly, toxins stored in the fat to protect the body, are released into the body quickly, and the body can't heal itself properly. If you lose weight at a slow, consistent rate--the body can cleanse the body of those toxins. And that's just one of the many ways in which it's bad to lose weight too quickly...

@@fatboitino2 Yes, but there are much safer ways for a morbidly obese person to lose that weight. Making them run or do box jumps is STUPID. Imagine 500 LBS of pressure being applied directly to their joints when jumping. Also, not everyone on The Biggest Loser is "morbidly obese". Some have not reached that level yet. In any case, a healthy rate of fat loss is 1 - 2.5 pounds per week. Perhaps this can be slightly increased for obese people. And it should be mainly changes to diet along with light impact exercise like swimming. You cannot train a morbidly obese person the same way you would train an Olympic athlete. Their bodies are different. They could have a heart attack at any moment. By shifting the focus away from heath and towards what the scale shows and making it a competition to how many pounds someone can drop at once is very wrong. This is why so many people who are on the Biggest Loser end up gaining all the weight back, if not more.

Michel The prevalence of eating disorders is less than 10% of the population. It's really not "easy" to get one. It's "easy" to claim to have one. Moreover, there is a difference between "disordered eating" and "eating disorder." Big difference in fact. I'm sorry friends of yours have experienced it, but it's quite offensive to trivialize eating disorders as something "easy to catch." It's not like a cold or flu, it's a mental illness that takes years to develop, and is influenced by many things, most of which have nothing to do with weight or body size. Everybody is so quick to jump to the terms "anorexia" or "bulimia" these days without actually knowing what it takes to be diagnosed with them.
@fjalls7 жыл бұрын
Jasmine Kassam That just what I didnt mean. This show is almost designed for ppl to "evolve" eating disorders. I consider it a eating disorder when a person gets so thin that he or she has to be hospitalized or when someone ALWAYS thinks about food in a con´trolling matter. Her supposed ED does not show cause thats her goal. Its shows when lets say shes having a party for her daughter or whatever and eats carrots in instead of a piece of cake. Then she and other says "oh, its just because of my diet, I cant eat this" Its super easy to "get" a ED. My niece is on her way there, I see it in how she acts around food. I talked to her mom about this over a year ago. Always gets the respond that she is fine, its just a phase. Thats how my ex gf got her anorexia. She almost died. Then she got healthy and started lifting weights. Now she has orthorexia and is basically training her body to pieces. Everybody STILL says she is fine and has a great body. Ive been around it so much I almost can read when someone has a problem. Its so incredible how common it is.

Padre-D Productions Going from 260 to 105 in a few months required some extreme training that probably resulted in days, maybe even weeks, of not eating. You can be underweight and people feel that this is going to low. There is no damned if you do damned if you don't scenario. This is a going to far to one end and then going to far to the other. There's is a middle ground that people should be hitting. RememberRox People say a lot of things. People who are over 300 lbs have said they felt great and health, as have people under 100 lbs.

She looked almost skeletal, but she was trying to win an enormous amount of money and she did what she had to to earn the victory. If she just puts five-ten pounds of lean weight back on after the shows finale she'd look perfect. If you watch the second to last episode she looked perfect at that point healthy and strong.
@SaraH-jn5db4 жыл бұрын
"If she gained five-term pounds she'd look perfect" you are literally promoting the problem we are criticizing. What you think of her weight doesnt matter. No one care what weight you think she would look "perfect" at, you're just telling her what to do with her body to be more physically appealing to what you personally see as healthy. You dont get to pretend to be supportive then tell her she's look better if she gained 5 pounds
@davidmayberry31904 жыл бұрын
@@SaraH-jn5db ok she'd look healthy, how about that? You can believe what you want but it's not healthy to starve yourself to skin and bones, it's called anorexia. @@davidmayberry3190 here's a reply two years later then. She's perfectly healthy and has a fitness Instagram, let's see what ELSE you can come up with to disapprove of. Also the fact that you and your wife are both lean and on the muscular side just shows you have no idea of what it feels like to be obese and losing over 100 pounds to completely reinvent your body from inside and out. There's this thing called a healthy dose of sadism when you have to lose that much weight to keep going, which is night and day compare to always being thin and just putting on a measly 5-10 pounds of muscle.
@roseban59384 жыл бұрын
“Emaciated”, seriously? BMI doesn’t determine whether you’re healthy or not.

It's supposed to be a guideline, if you feel fine and your BMI is 19(skinny side) or 24(chubby side) no one should care. But if you are constantly out of breath, have trouble sleeping, headaches etc(endless list) then weight can be an indicator. Your BMI is 19 and you are constantly out of breath, damn that doesn't sound good, maybe you eat too little or are malnourished. And vice versa. Ahh, assumed you were from the U.S. I have a degree in nutrition/dietetics we use 18.5

Marie Ada I'm a nutritionist and personal trainer, it's not accurate in the sense that it doesn't take into consideration if your weight is muscle or fat but ppl who can have health problems are usually way under 18, still.
@yusileysierra560510 жыл бұрын
The healthy benchmark is actually 18.5, but whatever... the BMI didn't count her frame type. Being boney equals sickness not health. If you think this slinky individual is healthy, I highly recommend you get your money back from whatever place your got your accreditations and degrees from, because this woman is clearly not healthy looking. She looks typical of Hollywood actresses and reminds me of Christian Bale from "The Machinist". She has no mass which is why her eyes are snuck in and her bones protrude. A healthy individual doesn't have that. She has aged dramatically too. She is 24 but looks way older... wtf!?

I don’t see the problem, she seems to have an athletes build, it is evident she has a lot of lean muscle

She looked horrible! She didn’t look healthy! Any time the trainers look like they did, YOU KNOW THAT’S NOT GOOD! She went from being overweight to being underweight…..both are too dangerous!

keont'e pringle From what i gather she apparently has put on a bit more weight. So it's likely exactly what you are saying occurred.

the thing is, it's easier to gain than lost, especially when she lives in America. So i wouldn't worry about her tbh.

Yikes! She's giving Karen Carpetner in the face. According to bmi charts she's only five pounds overweight, I would've guess 15-20 pounds. This video is nine years old, where and how is she now? Can we get an update?

omg people judged her for being too big now people are judging her for being to small, the poor thing cant win and must feel terrible about the constant criticism she's faced from society, can everyone just let her be happy
@TehKitteh0110 жыл бұрын
It is because she lost too much weight, too fast and could be suffering from a life threatening illness now. The show should be promoting healthy weight loss, not starvation diets. She may need help.

Exactly its better to lose weight slow and do cardio as well as lifting weights but people are stubborn nowadays

Rachel Frederickson really pushed herself. It must've taken a lot of willpower to lose all that weight. Also the huge cash prize might of pressured her into losing that weight. As long as she's happy, healthy and overall living a healthy lifestyle, she's fine.

Um...I'm 5'3" and weigh 104 lbs. and my doctor said I'm perfectly healthy. Pretty sure Rachel will be fine.

Exactly what I was thinking. Looks can be deceiving, and everyone's body is different. Just because you're a certain height doesn't mean you have to conform to the same exact criteria as everyone else. People enjoy shaming others whether or not they're "too fat" or "too skinny."

I hate when fitness trainers think they know what it's like to be morbidly obese it's not just physically depleting it's mental to and it's never been harder to lose weight ever since now
@Adyman1829 ай бұрын
Folks in here are arguing about her 105lb weight, but not about how did she get there, which is the most important part. The rapid speed of the contestants' weight loss is far from ideal.
