Basically you wanted a Silent Hill 2, I find DS2 more scary and with more psychological horror, the part where you hear the crying child into the dryer just to know that when you come back after turning in the power you hear the machine working and no more cries implying you killed it is very psychological

I think instead of nicole being in the unitologists office, Isaac's mother could be there, but instead of trying to kill him. She could be saying things like, "Oh my dear child. You fought so hard, but you dont need to fight anymore. Join me and your father. Were here waiting on you, dear. Make us whole again." Thats just one thing i would of changed. Sorry for bad grammer.

100% Dead Space's lore has lent itself to psychological horror but never really took advantage of it. One of the best examples of psychological horror done right in DS is surprisingly the Dead Space iOS game that came out right around DS2, some really trippy sequences. DS: Extraction also did really well with the opening sequence as well, what a twist

@@tylerchristensen1484 Seriously, that game was a bit of a mindfuck at times. There was a sequence when you hallucinated that you were a necromorph or that you found yourself in a desert. As a huge Dead Space fan, I feel like they should not have hold back at all on this level. Not only is Isaac getting closer to the marker at this point, but it woulda been cool to see him hallucinate the kellion team as he was walking down the entrance as they once did in the first game.

here are some ideas of mine: 1. this takes inspiration from the recent demo for the joy of creation remake: occasionally ignited chica can be spotted in the door way or from your desk, you'll see her a split second before she runs off, the player goes to see where she went only to not find her. there can be normal or phantom necromorphs issac sees peering at him but they disappear out of sight when spotted or when Isaac gets close and you find where they hide but their not there. 2. this idea takes inspiration from fear 3 during the warehouse/store where you see shadows of people running away or dashing near you. necromorphs or human like entities stop what their doing when they see Issac and run away, some may try to sneak up behind them. only for issac to turn around and see nothing is there
@alpha62472 ай бұрын
I honestly think that the fear and horror is fine,but since we replay the story more than once u get used it...on higher difficulties is when the atmosphere and horror still gets u,even if u know how it goes u know one mistake means death,i was more interested in the multiplayer...like some lore or story why the sprawl security team is fighting aliens and not hunting issac or protecting tiedmann on the final chapters

British, I feel you hit the nail on the head with this video. Dead Space 2 definitely could've benefitted from more dread style horror instead of combat. A lot of the comments here definitely bring good ideas to the table, isaac hallucinating his dead parents, hallucinating his comrades, passing out in safety but having horrible nightmare sequences, it all just is good food for thoughts. I hope, if a Dead Space 2 remake ever happens that MOTIVE will continue to take community feedback and ideas.

I think you have point and your ideas could make the game a bot more terrifiyng. But when i look at ds 2 in general you see that isaac isnt that scared engeneer who tries to survive anymore. He has become the markers and his creations worst nighmare and the dementia and hallucinations are just the markers attempts to stop isaac but he isnt scared or traumatized of his past and present anymaore wich is symbolized of him finally fighting nicole (the marker) and accepting his fate

I've never considered this before due to thinking this game was executed perfectly. But the points you bring up definitely would have heightened the game significantly. We see a bit of a trope that happens with horror sequels where the protagonist begins to be desensitized to fear. Issac could have put on a brave face for us, the player, but when returning to the Ishimura, we could see the mental toll he was truly suffering, and be none the wiser due to us experiencing it as real till the last moment. Which was what DS 3 was going to tackle before becoming the mess it was forced to be. Though I know it's a long shot they will remake DS 2, I sincerely hope some of the dev team see this and are inspired to return to those ideas and implement them

If they do get to remake Dead Space 2 (Personally I want Motive's Dead Space 2 to be an original story ) they can definitely have the hallucinations affect the players. Just imagine a moment where you fight Necromorphs and once the fight ends Isaac recollects himself and moves forward only for the player to turn the camera and see that there are no bodies

For real, however...I feel a DS2 remake would be able to do a lot of justice in character development, and making stages of the game have more depth. Isaac being forced to hallucinate all the people he couldn't save, his family speaking to him, isaac falling asleep and hallucinating an entire battle, ellie losing contact with him which only further drives isaac mad as he has nobody to keep him steady and sane.

Definitely some small things to address. If they remake Dead Space 2 they should do as you suggest. Add more horror in. Story was great. Gameplay was great. Setting was great. Just add more horror. Then if they remake Dead Space 3? They should overhaul everything once you get to the planet. I still think EA should invest in a TV series and a prequel. I wouldn’t mind a game with Altman…if I remade Dead Space 3…I’d have some kind of flashback, or connection between Isaac and Altman. Then throughout the game as you try to stop the spread…you get to go back and play when they first find the black marker. Because if I recall, we never SEE a black marker. Just a red one and then a yellow one. Knowing the black marker simply gives the blueprints for a red one…they could make it so that the black one also provides a way to reverse it

These could have been nice things to put into a remake of 2 if EA weren't unhappy with the remake of 1 and decided to kill the franchise again. What I'd want though? An actual boss fight with the Tormentor.

@TheKyppsАй бұрын
Heres what I find an issue with, if you are telling a linear story. It can only be scary for so long. DS2 is an exemplar in how to add new horror but up the stakes so you sacrifice some horror for action in an action horror shooter, plus we all knew she was dead already. Issac knows shes dead at this point and the Marker is trying to stop him, it wants him dead until it sees a weakness caused by its probing and he lets it in thinking its his own psychosis, his own demons when in reality it is a real demon and it wants to break his mind.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this idea. This entire chapter is dripping with atmosphere and constantly pulling away from that to do an “all in ‘le head’” sequence comes across as forced to me. Don’t get me wrong, a few beats here and there that, in turn, make the chapter a bit longer would be super cool and I’d love to see implemented in a possible remake. But an entire sequence where Isaac fights an army of Necromorphs in his sleep? That’s incredibly corny to me and doesn’t fit with the games tone. Having Kendra and Hammond show up would also struggle to make sense in the original Dead Space 2, considering that Isaac’s feelings towards them is more so up to the player. Remember, Dead Space originally had a silent protagonist who only had little blurbs of character written in his mission descriptions. Them showing up in this sequence could mess with the player’s sense of continuity with the previous title and, again, feel very forced. The original level being held back feels far scarier and menacing than ghost coming up to you and saying cliché lines like “you let me die!” Nicole already does this at the very start of the next chapter, and even that borders on being goofy. TL;DR: the mission’s perfect as is. It would be dope to see a remake expand on this level a tad, though.

'fan favorite' bs, nothing will ever trump ds1 and it's remake. It's as close to perfection as is realistically possible. Ds2 is okay, but the atmosphere and pacing is completely off. Ds1 is a sci-fi survival horror game, Ds2 is a sci-fi action game
@kimarhironso4372 ай бұрын
DS2 was never going to be DS. Horror where you have a defeatable enemy like in DS doesn't work over and over again. It's the same reason Aliens wasn't Alien with another small crew and another single Alien. You have to change the stakes and go in a different direction. Eventually ALL series hit the law of diminishing returns if they go on long enough, but a surefire way to get there sooner is following the exact same formula as the first game. At this point, in the story, you KNOW Nicole is dead. So you KNOW everytime you see her it's a hallucination. There isn't really any point in wondering if it is real or isn't because you already know she's dead. The disturbing part of it is that the Marker is using your dead wife against you. Not that you wonder if she is or isn't real. DS2 is the apex of the series and was way ahead of its time. To me the problem with both OG Dead Space (and remake) and Alien Isolation is that they eventually become a chore to play. The OG dead space unnerved me for a little longer than usual, I think I might've been unnerved for about 45 minutes or so, but eventually that wears off and I just spend the next 9 or 10 hours bored as shit. DS has a great horror story, but it isn't scary for me simply because you are overexposed to the horror elements. The same with Alien Isolation. Within fifteen minutes of Isolation, I had no fear of the game at all. Callisto protocol the same way with even less time. Maybe ten. I actually preferred all those games when I wasn't fighting (or in Isolations case hiding) because it was the same shit over and over again. DS2 was better because you are in the infestation of the colony from the beginning (so there is simply more going on in the world), combat is much quicker, the setting is more varied, and there was more narrative turns going on. It slogs a little bit, but not to the extent that DS one did. Personally I'd play DS2 four or five times before I would play DS one again. The downside though is that while DS one got a respectable remake, DS2 isn't getting one, so that sucks. Would've liked to have seen where they went with it.
