Lordy we made so many mistakes building our house on our homestead... The barn has mistakes... , the well house has a mistake... the shop has mistakes.. but we have been here living in Mistakeville for 55 years now... We are independent, paid off ... and happy in retirement.. Best of all.. Our Learning experiences have been such a fun thing to talk about around a camp fire.. and telling our kids to cheer them up when they make mistakes... Gosh.. I guess we are all human after all ! We love you guys !!!!

This is what I said to my partner when we watched the last episode. I work in construction myself and I’ve been on jobs where it’s clear everyone is out of their depth (bespoke builds, one off strange designs etc) and it was clear to me they were struggling to work things out. I would have called in a professional carpenter considering the cost of the posts.

@@debyarger3084 Then ur taking away from Trent (and Allie) his right of the enjoyment and ownership of using his own hands when finished especially on a project he’s never done before. Yes, mistakes are made but that’s all part of the learning process. The parts like the drywall finishing, tiling and whatever else they have hired someone to do was he has done that already in the house, know’s he could do it but because of time management due to not knowing when baby is coming and importantly figuring it into the budget. Timber framers are really really expensive and probably very busy this time of year with their own scheduled projects with a limited amount of build time days between crappy weather seasons. Don’t take away their satisfaction of accomplishment when finished in building their own home together.

Watching this is painful. As a deck builder I would like to remind you that the primary function of a post is to provide strength and structure vertically. Therefore why all the fuss on how it fits in the pocket? Oversize the pockets and glue or foam them, bolt them, stand them, plumb them, chalk line them ALL then cut them for height using your (expensive but hardly used) excavator. Done!

NO MATTER how high or how many times I got thrown into the air that I ALWAYS “ landed on ALL 4 paws”! Soooo….I’m here to say to you Trent Childs that YOU are like a cat too!🐱🐈🐈‍⬛ …YOU ALWAYS “ land on ALL fours” 🐾🐾and YOU ALWAYS “ figure it out”!!!! Laughter through the tears, my friends! Mistakes are there for us to learn from. Trent, you WILL figure this out and it WILL get done! Remember this: In the 1920s, a journalist asked Thomas Edison how it felt to fail 1000 times in his attempt to invent the incandescent lightbulb. He replied, “I didn't fail 1000 times. The lightbulb was an invention with 1000 steps.” Allie, keep smiling!

Agreed… We set expectations for ourselves too damn unrealistically (high and/or low). Expect to succeed… eventually. It’s important to fail. I have a personal tragedy (you, too?) that took my ego and pride a while to get into perspective. Sure… it probably WAS the love of my life (lucky me it was “another love” in a relatively long line) that lasted 6.5 years. I’m grateful for what was and what I had. That’s all. We don’t fail. We let go or we grow. We do grow apart. Things like this happen. When we LEARN about things it’s awesome! So… IF there is a professional consultant to hire on a DIY project… not a team but a team member, that could make a huge difference.

I completely understand how the weather dictates your workload. We live in Colorado, where the wind and cold weather take over. We take it day by day and learn to flex accordingly. People are not taking on big projects requiring precision to make these comments. Safety is always first! I relate all things to sports because it has to happen several times before things come together. This is a first-time swing at getting it right and will take time.

It depends in the Chiropractor and the types of training required by the state they had their schooling in. I've had some that were required to have in- deapth education in areas that would astound you. Their findings and diagnosis for me were more accurate by far than the MDs I went to. So please don't place them all in the same category. Having had 4 children, and that many OB/GYN Drs. And Chiropractors in a few different states, and having been a Birth Coach myself, what Allie is saying is right on target as she described it. I'm sorry if the Chiropractors in your experience hasn't been nearly as educated as ours!

Just before my firstborn was born, I was working on a huge house foundation. One wall was 40 feet long, 20 inches wise, 14 feet tall. About 23 yards of concrete. The rest of the house was another 75 yards. Due to an error, I ordered 98 yards plus 23 yards. To have three trucks with mud on them is a terrible day. Back then, concrete was only $50, but it had fiber mesh and super plasersizer, as in 73 a yard. My boss told me to take care of my wife. I thought I was fired, but once the baby came, I was back at work, still the foreman. Show me someone who makes no mistakes. I'll show you someone who does nothing.

It is basic joinery but on a bigger level. You already have a 3 or 4 ft piece try it! What do you have to lose. Didn't you say the beams are a grand each. I would try it. And no it won't look terrible.
