Something I see a lot is different members of the family using different "words" as commands. I also made a list of our commands for our doggy daycare/boarding facility to use. We have a particularly challenging German Shepherd (much like the ones that come to you). The DDC/BDG staff were very appreciative of the list. It gets put on his run area while he's there. It helps for everyone to use those few words all the same way for better communication. BTW I love what you do and teach and implement your strategies with our challenging Shepherd. There have been many days when I wished I lived closer to your facility. But watching you and learning has been a tremendous help!!! Thank you for sharing!!!

I wish I found your videos before my senior dog passed away. I only had him for a few years but he was a shelter dog wish a list of health problems that I adopted at 10 so he had tons of anxiety, big dog hip and gait problems, and leash issues but I assumed he wasn't going to make it past a few months so I didn't bother trying to train him. I assumed it would be a long process and stressful for him being old and with cancer, and now I see that I probably could have given him a more structured last few years. At least now I know for next time, whenever that may be.

Love how operant conditioning works for the handler too. When he kept explaining that there was pressure with the curved elbow, the second he marked “its better” for the correct position with her hand she relaxed and dropped it even more because it clicked for her. Amazing stuff.

Excellent points here Tom. The bent arm thing is so common in none trainers but so hard to stop. As you say dogs pick up on tension etc very quickly. Dogs communicate with tiny ear flicks, looks that most humans do not see unless having watched a pack interact. I chat to my Service Dog but Not when training, she knows when she's working and when she is in "free dog" time, Great as ever Tom. One to make you smile. I got accused of "attacking" a charging Belgian Shepherd by using spacial pressure. After 3 charges and nothing from the owner I had to act. Clearly the dog has never been told NO before. Dominant young dog heading into aggression. Owner doesn't even call the off leash dog...sigh. Thanks Tom, great as always : )

Have been watching your channel for a while. Has made a huge difference in how I handle the German Shepards that I foster, and was really excited to hear you deep dive on pressure. My question is, how do you handle pressure when dealing with puppies? Working with a 5 month old shepard now, and she's right on the border of finally coming out of her shell, but also pretty strong willed when she wants something. Trying to find a balance of applying pressure and letting her just "dog" as she learns about the world.

I wish you'd do this kind of training outdoors as I find its the outside distractions that cause both dog and owner to get frustrated or they not know how to get the dog back under control. Doing this inside does do great in starting the learning process I find it all goes out the door the second they walk out and into the real world. Would be great to see both inside training , then outside training.

Inside until know...quiet place outside until known....dogs need to be "taught" that every location means they MUST perform....its called "generalizing" a behavior.....i.e....the dog sits in my home, not at my parents. The dog comes when i call on my property but not somewhere else......use a long line (30ft) and bring him to a new place every other day and practice for 5-10 minuted....be gentle....you must "teach" all this!! Once known, generalized...its time for corrections AFTER proper leash pressure is TAUGHT inside your house!! go slow, have fun!

@@ABCdogtraining802 so my biggest issue with my Shephard is getting him to ignore his want to smell and track while out. He's great for the most part and doing well on learning to look at me(he's going to be my service dog companion once fully trained? And his wanting to watch others that are out and about. He is a bit protective in that way and we are working on it slowly. Any tips on helping in this area. I do use an occasional treat to get the attention and focus but it's not what I call doing great at this point. I refer to it as his nosey curiosity of all around him and sniffing out other critters.

Thanks ! My daughter has a year and a half Ausie. A beautiful dog. She got pregnant soon after she got him.He is sweet but pulls so bad that she can't walk him with the baby plus he is watchful and barking at the road a lot - especially when we say the baby's name? I will get them a slip collar soon. 🐕love watching!

Your videos are very informative and valuable. I am a mask maker with a new puppy. Seeing you constantly having to adjust your mask while training is making me want to make you a mask so badly but if you are interested I can do that. Thanks for all of the great tips!

I know is depend of the costumers thag you get but I wish you could do more videos with smaller size dogs where is more hard to do some of the leash movements, eye contact, some pressure etc because of their size. Thank you, love the channel

ugh i love watching your videos. i’m struggling with my almost 5 month old german shepard so responsive with me.. loves to push my buttons and nip at me but just enough to touch me it’s so annoying but he feeds off of it, and gets more aggressive when i correct him i’m so lost on what to do.

Breanna...this will get better in the next month or 2.....say no and ignore/go to other room...redirect with toy. If that doesnt work, take him right to his crate....say no, right to crate..not another word!! If that doesnt work, grab his scruff and pull up quickly and firmly AFTER "no"....id teach your dog yes/no inside while feeding....last case...pinch tongue to bottom of mouth for a second! Gotta do this stuff with some intense high drive dogs ...you MUST teach yes/no...you cant correct until your dog knows yes/no!!

Great video! Wish I could get my stubborn German shepherd to care about the correction he gets with a prong. He has a nasty habbit of pushing against it and creating tension so I have no leverage 😔

Idk about y’all but I was taught by my parents to never go up to someone’s dog and pet it, even if I had their permission. That was mainly based off of my dads experience (He grew up in Mexico, where dogs would run loose and usually bite). I was never taught to be afraid but rather simply respect the animal. Now an owner of two Dobermans, it astounds me how many people want to pet my Doberman

I have a staffy that's pretty strong and never really learnt to walk properly without pulling and choking herself. Since getting a prong collar she has got ALOT better and is starting to listen and walk nicely. I'm struggling to find a good way to transition her off the prong collar because ideally, I'd like to not have to rely on it. I've tried slip collars and they work ~okay but because her neck is bigger then her head and the only slip collars I can find are quite thick rope, sometimes it starts to come off over her head which is obviously not what I want! That thinner like slip collar adapter you used in this video possibly looks ideal but I can find anything similar, is this available to purchase somewhere? Also, do you recommend any techniques or ways to weed us off the prong collar? Thanks, you're content is great and more people need to see this stuff!

My trainer had me hold the leash at my stomach. I found that so uncomfortable and regimented. I like the relaxed way so much better. But I am guilty of the talking!! I have to stop that!! I love your videos and have learned so much.

Hi Tom, I love the videos and am learning a lot about dog training. My wife and I recently adopted a pit bull and now have 3 dogs. After watching your videos we discovered we were doing everything wrong. Do you have an e-collar that you recommend that can be used to train 3 dogs? I noticed the 280C only does 2 dogs (according to Amazon and with the addition of a second collar)?
