I use my 54 and 58 degree wedges off the fairway on full shots, so I stick with a 8* bounce . If I need more bounce on chips and in the sand, I'll open the face which increases the bounce in soft sand and green side if needed.

Loved this video, where can I go to get a fitting like this? Currently got 46, 52, 56 and 60 but constantly frustrated that 52s only seem to come in full grinds these days, I'd like something with heel and toe relief that doesn't paying a fortune for a custom grind as I like to get a bit versatile with the 52 around the green but still want a decent amount of bounce.

Definitely some myths being out out by the fitter. Better players tend to hit wedges lower with controlling skin. Plenty of your players use the leading edge instead of the bounce. Jordan Spieth being one of them. His short game is kind of good. Having an average golfer using the bounce is usually a recipe for disaster without a change to the swing. The clubhead will pass the hands, the club will "bounce" off if the ground and they will skull the ball Be very careful with generalized information because it can bring on it's own set of issues. At the end of the day you need to match the wedge to the swing and not the reverse unless you are making a change to technique

I have 46, 50 and 54 deg wedges plus an old, old Ping Tour 60 that comes out in bunkers and deep doggy doo. The 46 and 50 are stock standard, part of the fitted set, but the 54 has wide sole and 14deg of bounce. The fitter told me that everyone on my course needs plenty of bounce. Horses for courses?
@nationalclubgolfer Жыл бұрын
Bounce and grind can massively be affected by type of golf course. If you play a softer could you can use much more bounce generally than a firmer one

The best thing I ever did was going to a 3 wedge setup. Pw 44, gap 49 and a sw at 56 degrees.

The thing is, this is the 4th or 5th wedge fitting video I have seen for Hannah, and every one of them seems like her "fit" is different than the last. Variances with the individual fitter, and with the design of the club manufacturer, I am sure. But the point is, after seeing them in total, what wedge/bounce/grind actually fits? And if there's no real concrete answer for somebody with the access to be fit for all of them, how do we hackers have a hope of finding the right combination?
@nationalclubgolfer Жыл бұрын
I would say the two I have had this year with TM and Edel have been fairly similar. My last one was back in 2021, it was different but my technique has definitely changed!

I'd like to replace my 4 year old Mizuno wedges, as they're worn, but I'm afraid of making a wrong choice in grinds and bounce. I'd love to be able to experiment on a course with a knowledgeable fitter.

Don't really understand the statement at 6:28 - It's not an universal truth imho. I switched to a 4 degree bounce 58 this year coming from a 12, and find it excellent on wet bunkers. Probably the difference is the extreme grind on it (it's a Mizuno S23 - X) that slices through like a knife, and my shallower swing compared to Hannah's. I think the video is excellent for Hannah's myths, but not for everyone's.

One comment and one question. What is the typical amount of bounce on a mid or short iron? Then, this video focuses more on bounce than grind.
@apaulmcdonough2170 Жыл бұрын
Irons usually play at 04° - 08° "Effective Bounce" in Mid to Short Irons. This is actually more due to the Shape of the Sole of the Iron. So the "Grind" and the Length of the Sole's Depth - the Leading Edge back to the Trailing Edge of the Sole. Titleist stopped stating "Bounce Angle" in their Iron Specifications a few years ago.

Its a myth created by phil mickelson followers , anything more lofted than 56 is a waste , the real shame is nearly all 56 dgrees come with 12 degrees of bounce 🤦🏻 why ??? 08 on a 50/52/54 and 08 on 58/60 so why plonk 12 on a 56 ? Ninety percent of players go into bunkers with a 60 so its cant be just to help sand shots , i just dont get it . I grind all my wedges on a belt sander until i can open them up without the leading edge lifting , that leaves just the 5 on my 56 . I can open that up and hit skyward or flight it lower with no problem . Knowing where the bounce is at is important in all wedge shots .

Amateur high handicapper guy here. Bounce raises the face. Cant stand that. Sabotage. Give me a sharp and low face on every club. Line drive ball from a wedge over the green and into the woods is not my want.
@paulwags662 Жыл бұрын
That's because you struggle with producing correct impact. As long as you aren't playing on rock hard surfaces then a little higher bounce helps most people. When you get better impact you will appreciate the bounce a little more
@markweaks2239 Жыл бұрын
@@paulwags662 Afraid not. I need a sharp edge to fit it under the ball. Yes, same as on hard ground. Bounce is like super tall strings on a guitar. It sabotages. Bounce can work in sand, LOOSE sand or tall grass. Usually traps are firm and hard. Why then no bounce on a driver? Because you must get under the ball every time. Enjoy your bounce, not for me.
