Playing sm8 52f and 58k… nice and informative stuff. A lot of ppl have made this kind of video and ppl still won’t think about their wedges too much. If you can hit these around the green you really see the differences between grinds

Great video Hannah very interesting and helpful as I’m looking at new wedges. Do you feel that specialty wedges ( sand and lob) are better than wedges included in a set.? I’m a 16 handicapper and a senior. Many thanks and good luck with your golf this year.

Hello, yes I would always suggest at least one speciality wedge as they are generally much more versatile!

Good video. I have the 50f, 54d & 58k, sometimes will swap the 54d for a hogan wedge w/less bounce. Can be creative w/the d & the k comes in handy in the sand.

I carry five wedges in my bag: P-G-SW-58-62. My irons are strong lofted so there's need for another wedge. The 58 and 62 are SM9, with the 58 being 12 degree of bounce, and the 62 is 8 degree of bounce.

Great video. One of the things I wish more manufacturers would do is make a 52-degree wedge with heel&toe relief. I've converted to a 2-wedge setup, 52 and 59, and I want that 52 to be more useful around the green - thus the desire for heel&toe relief. What I currently do is use a higher bounce 54or56 and bend it back to 52 - I'm now used to the slight introduced offset so it no longer bothers me, and the benefit is a far more useful wedge than a full soled 52 that you can't open
@nationalclubgolfer2 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely agree with you, you're much more limited in the stronger lofts!

We have a couple holes where one bunker is soft sand and the other side is hard sand due to the sun position. Which wedge would be recommended, a compromise between 8 and 12 degrees of bound?

Hi, I’m interested in booking a wedge fitting at st Ives. do you know if this is the level of fitting everyone gets? Hitting on mat and going out to the practice ground? Thanks.

Love practicing with wedges, can manipulate the ball and see the landing and spin. I can get away with just a 52 and 56. I have low to mid bounce being in Oz as ground is often firm and bunkers shallow sand. Soft hands is the key....

If I tend to thin my chip and pitch my shots which grind would work best?

Depends a little bit on the style of course you play and if the turf is firm or soft? But I would say F or T if firm ground

Still can be confusing though for a beginner. I play better with a much lower bounce wedge. But, that K grind is really good for bunkers. But, the K grind is a 14 bounce, which wouldn't seem right for me. I guess I would have to try one. Thanks for the great video Hannah.
@atamagashock7 ай бұрын
I think that’s where people over think the bounce too much. It totally depends on what you use the club for. The 14k is great in soft conditions, out of soft sand bunkers and thick tall grass. So while lower bounce might be better for you over all that could be because of your swing type, turf conditions and lie. The K overall will work good for everyone if used in the proper conditions. But then an 8M might be better all around for you. You can also get a 6K from wedge works

for a SW-56, which grind would be best for beginners? I tried a few websites and they suggested either an S grind (10 bounce) or D grind (12 bounce), but I have no clue which one is best for a beginner, any suggestions?

A fun thing to do is grab an old wedge out of the garage and put a DIY grind on it. Get one with a bigger bounce and design it yourself.

GREAT VID Hanna! That looked like firm links w firm sand so easy choices Im needing new wedges and the hampsters are running trying to figure out to go 54/12 - 58/10 (middle road for both) or 50/14 - 58/8 for our variety of courses? 1 week Ill play a desert links course w firm everything then the next week play a lush Troon resort course w soft sand or silky fairways and everything in between. Wish i could do a fitting like that. What did you end up with? And did you choose that set up since you mainly play firm courses there?
@nationalclubgolfer2 жыл бұрын
I play a variety of courses and I use a 46 - 10 bounce F grind, 52 12 bounce F grind, 58 8 bounce M grind. I mainly use 46 and 52 for full shots or square face shots hence the higher bounce and fuller sole. I play all my other shots with my 58 so like something with lower bounce and that I can manipulate the face with the grind more!
@home4ya2 жыл бұрын
@@nationalclubgolfer thanks! Sand is a weakness so thinking 54/14 so is that high bounce in my 54 and low bounce in my 58/6 going to have neg effects on the full shots?

I'm a 15, was a 9 last year but got injured and maybe additional side effects of the jab. I tried to switch to Vokey 56-10 S Grind from my MG4 and the Vokey grind was way too clunky, even in thick rough. I would suggest finding a grind that gives you confidence with the face slightly open because that's how wedges are meant to be played. Hah.
@johnglasby14316 ай бұрын
Sorry but don’t agree. Breaking it down you can have a very low HC for the short game but higher HC for the long game.

@@johnglasby1431 with these PGA coaches it’s all a gimmick to get you buying crap. An old school Sand wedge would be good enough. You don’t need it a £200 wedge. Most amateurs won’t get the benefit out of it anyway. Most of these PGA coaches are not very good players anyway believe it or not. I would sincerely take what they say with a pinch of salt. They get paid little money & scrape a living fitting clubs. With most it’s about money. I played against one in a scratch match & thrashed him & thought why would I take advice on equipment & lessons from someone I know I can comfortably beat. I think they’ll be extinct soon when with AI. Not needed.
