Finally someone said it! 👏 SDK should be launched ASAP once the SDJ is available from the manufacturer we still have to wait for the 3rd party software to be optimised with the SDK. DJI should offer the SDK as a beta software before the drone has been released. So the drone can be released at the same time as the SDK. This will 1. increase sales immediately 2. Save the client from only using old redundant drones. 3. The drone operator can offer his clients the very latest. The first drone manufacturer to resolve this issue will get the largest sales. , because they will be offering up to date drones.

Again Dylan, excellent video giving your impressions and limitations of the Mini 3. I cannot agree with you more regarding the difference between the DJI Go4 and Fly App. The absence of all the telemetry data that is not displayed on the Fly App as compared to Go4 was a disappointment for me. I also miss the ability to change the auto discharge rate of the Mavic batteries on the Fly App. Mavic 2 Pro battery discharge on the Go4 App can be adjusted to a 10 day discharge rate.... but only a 5 day discharge rate on the Phantom 4.....hmm

@rickholman23102 жыл бұрын
So if I understand you correctly, the mini3 pro sucks primarily because it’s not capable of running software that you are promoting and are most likely being compensated financially for that promotion. Not everyone that buys a drone wants to go into the photogrammetry business. Some of us just enjoy having an easy to operate drone that’s capable of capturing high quality pictures and video, which the mini 3 pro delivers. I realize that if DJI hits it out of the park and comes out with a drone with lots of features and at a good price point under 250 grams that it’s quickly going to sell more drones of this type and unfortunately the companies that sell third party software are not happy. Apple does it, and so do many other tech based manufacturers. Why? Because it’s focused on their business, not aftermarket software companies that piggyback on their technology. So, I don’t think it’s fair to slag DJI and a pretty good product just because it doesn’t benefit Drone Deploy. If someone wants to get into the photogrammetry business they should buy the proper equipment for it, even if it means that they have to invest the extra money to do it right. Just sayin.

I was only endorsed by Drone Deploy once, on the contrary I pay drone deploy a significant amount of money every year for my operations. This was just a callout to DJI for not releasing SDK quickly, this has nothing to do with Drone Deploy. Great video, Dylan. The biggest problem with the Mini3 Pro is the low quality of the remote RC signal regarding robustness to interference (@ only 600m distance it starts to fail or even freeze). oh I'm sure the SDK will come out... when the Mini X pro is announced/rumored/whatever that stupid hype cycle is before release. :/ anyway this video is less about a flaw with the drone itself and moreso flaws with buying things BRAND brand new.

To be fair as a consent as big as DJI is, it seems incomplete to sell a drone with missing features from day 1. It’s sad to see that this is becoming the norm for “flagship” tech devices now.

The REAL issues about the Mini 3 Pro are that 1, it’s light and therefore has less stability than bigger drones. 2, The RC is a joke, as it disconnects all the time. 3, the drone is small. This it looks like a toy. The thing here is image and ego. This is why I believe some pro wedding DJs want to hook up retro turntables to their mixer and laptop, rather than look ‘cheap’ as if using mp3s. My above analogy is that if I was paying someone to do some drone work - and saw his equipment was small Nd looked cheap, I might be reluctant to pay a high price. I don’t think the issue (with a v skilled) drone pilot/photography is the ABILITY of the mini 3 per se. It’s not 💩.
@sayakakunze23942 жыл бұрын
Do you think if DJI allows the SDK. Would you try using it for photogrammetry? I’ve been interested in learning and just bought the mini 3 but now I feel defeated ☹️ I could probably rent one though and just practice with the mini 3. P.S your hair is on point in this video!
@DylanGorman2 жыл бұрын
For a beginner yes! This drone would be great it’s just missing the SDK for any 3rd party software use! I will say the Mini 2 is still an option (that took DJI over a YEAR for them to release that SDK!) I have a video about it on my channel! I’m flattered thank you!

They haven’t for the Mavic 3 either and that’s been out for 3 months! I know the drone is new but DJI used to be on top of this, now it seems like they are taking their time with it which kinda sucks. But outside of that this drone is fantastic!

Good channel! DJI has been blacklisted in the US since December. This is probably why we will not see the SDK for new 'nonprofessional' drones from them as long as the restrictions remain. And given the U.S. government's anti-China bias, this is likely to last for a long time.

I can fully understand your points from an angle of a professional drone videographer. However, I can also see your concern of DJI MINI 3 opening a floodgate for people who want to get into drone videography. Unfortunately, the proliferation of small drones like MINI2/3, with increasing functionalities and very little restrictions, has inevitably lowered the barrier of entry to the commerical drone flying industry. It is always a compromise between price point and functionalities. The argument for not buying a drone because of its lack of interoperativity with other software or systems may not be a major concern for someone who is flying a drone for the first time. The idea of asking a beginner to get a sophisticated drone but with heavy baggage of costs and certification requirements may not be a good one.
@DylanGorman2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that! I feel that giving beginners the option to learn about other industries with a cheap drone without going broke is what we should strive for. But the price disparity with cheap drones vs good deliverables are ever so increasing making it hard for good pilots to make more. It’s a double edge sword.
@cfagil2 жыл бұрын
@@DylanGorman Now that DJI has found the sweet spot in the market, it would be nonsensical/foolish for them to let others share their return on investment. Good deliverables are in the eyes of the clients. If DJI MINI 3 can deliver results at a very favouriable price point, it would be difficult for anyone to say no. I do feel for those commercial drone pilots who have invested so much to face this little disruptor. The situation is not that disimilar to the traditional broadcasting houses facing millions of small content creators via KZbin.

If I may add to Dylan’s response...DJI maintains 100% control over the functions the SDK exposes to third-party developers. Therefore, any developer writing an app that uses the SDK to interface with a drone can’t really get the drone to do something DJI doesn’t expressly allow them to do.

I’m a little late to the party but the announcement was only 11 days ago. Additionally if you were able to make it half way through I spoke about the problem that the drone has and it’s that it doesn’t have an SDK available to allow you to use 3rd party apps like Drone Deploy, Litchi and Pix4D! Outside of that I think this drone is leaps and bounds better for an everyday carry drone! Sorry you feel that way, wasn’t trying to upset anyone!

i strongly disagree with you stating that if you show up to a client with the mini 3 you'll seem crazy... the reality is that its all about how creative you are and what you can do with the tool you have. I've seen persons shooting music videos with expensive cameras and Cole Bennett is out here shooting music videos on the iPhone and he's killing it. having a 1 inch sensor and all of that is fancy and and would be nice but non of that matters the majority of the time. its about the content you produce, what can you do with the tool you have. THE ONLY WAY you would seem like an idiot to a client is if you show up and charging your equipment's on the job and not looking organized.
@DylanGorman2 жыл бұрын
We are speaking about 2 entirely different industries because I do agree with you in a sense that equipment doesn't determine how good your product is as in the world of artist it's about what is created. In my industry equipment does matter. This drone will NOT produce engineering grade data, but a $10,000+ drone can. I was speaking more on the fact that if you wanted to experiment in my industry without shelling out thousands of dollars that this is the perfect drone to do that if it had the SDK that would allow app and software developers to make the tools accessible on this class of drone.

I’m not really sure you understood the video but that’s ok. Additionally this was more of an opinionated video, for people wanting to explore more options outside of the DJI proprietary apps and with how versatile this drone can be for beginners, I think DJI missed a good opportunity at launch once consumers get their hands on this. We can agree to disagree but no hard feelings. Happy flying!
