@@khairusplays I think the average twitch employee knows how bad the situation is. Not only with gambling streams, but how they treat streamers in general. But i believe that these people do not have an influence on the platform anymore. Twitch and their decisions have been more and more guided by corporate interests rather than whats good for this eco system as a whole throughout the years. They dont listen to the consumer, they dont listen to the content creators, they put in features that nobody needs nor asked for, while not implementing things that should be crucial for streaming like a basic rewind function - something youtube had since forever. They milk the people who create the revenue for them by taking 90% of the ad revenue. Then they lowered the costs of subscriptions with the promise that it would be more affordable, but instead people didnt subscribe more and Amazon keeps a bigger cut from prime memberships, which is now getting even more expensive, while streamers dont see a single dime from this increase. When Asmon said "I don't sympathize with him", I totally agree. If he were scamming people for money, sure, that's one thing. But then there's the clip of Trainwrecks who, randomly out of the kindness in his heart, decided to instead of consolidating his debt, Trainwrecks would just give him a flat sum to pay it all off. No one would do this for free to someone they barely know. NO ONE. And Sliker went BACK to Trainwrecks to ask for more. He was given, not one, but two chances to stop. He was given 2 rare "Get Out Of Jail Free" card to get out of a gambling debt and squandered both of it. He knew his problem, he knew his debts, and he STILL tried to scam for his addiction. Yes, he should get help. Yes, if I personally knew Sliker, I would sympathize and try to help him get out of the addiction. But that is where my sympathy stops. I will not forgive him for scamming people. Helping him out of a bad addiction is one thing, trying to downplay the seriousness of his crime and passing it off as "It wasn't you doing it, it was the addiction" is another.

@@rasmachris94 well there is a difference between screwing somebody over for addiction and self gain. Sliker gained nothing from hurting others. You cant compare him to some1 who uses the money to buy a big house and a car. He directly suffered the worst out of any of his victims. Allmost could be considered self-harm. At that point you have to understand sliker was clearly mentally not right. No sane human being would do what he did. This is the attitude you need to have with addicts who cross the line of stealing/scamming. Once they cross that line, there’s no going back over it, and will keep scamming and stealing until it’s no possible, either because they are incarcerated or are in a forced rehab situation. Speaking from experience with family that were/are addicts, a cousin who is a chronic heroin addict for the past 20 years that scammed and stole from family who, after 20 years of this and refusing rehab, has long since been disowned. An uncle was a gambling addict, he tried scamming but was called out and made to go to rehab. Even after he got out, his wife was in control of all the finances, because he couldn’t be trusted. So yeah, addicts can have sympathy/empathy, but don’t be naive and blind to who they hurt and absolve them of wrong doing, cause they’ll just turn around and keep doing it

When a person diagnosed with bipolar enters a manic state there's a high likelihood they will become violent in their dissociated state, so the police are called and they are removed from the situation for treatment. I think the same should be said about a person who has a severe gambling addiction who commits fraud and scams people out of their money, whether the action is taken by Twitch or the authorities. Asmon understands how bad this is for twitch and streamers. Everyone trying to say he made a mistake and get views off of interviewing him does not. Streaming is a reputation game. If stuff like this continues to happen what will that do to the reputation of twitch and the streamers that use the platform?

I think the reason people empathise with Sliker in this situation is that they know his face or have interacted with him previously whereas those who have be defrauded aren't known to 99% of the people that know Sliker. I think getting caught is the best thing to happen to him for two reasons. The first being that hopefully more people are aware that he was scamming people and the second being that if other content creators were scamming viewers, they'd know more of what an online scam looks like.

My grandfather was a gambler and he had borrowed money from people. But he always always returned it. Whenever he'd earn some money he'd first pay off those he borrowed from for gambling. Because he was ashamed, of gambling and borrowing and he didn't want it hanging over his head because owing money for gambling debt was bigger shame for him than gambling. Now note that this wasn't considered an illness back then, he pretty much just had to restrain himself, which he did. That was the only way to go about it back then.

Sorry hun but if he was that much of a gambler that he was constantly borrowing from others there's no way he was able to always pay people back. My point? You got rose colored glasses on since he was family.

@@pvsweetypie he worked and he paid back with that money. He never borrowed more than he knew he could return and he would work extra when he suffered huge losses just to make up for it. Even so in those days he'd try and buy extra stuff for the house out of guilt. Also I'm the last person to observe anything with rose colored glasses, especially when it comes to my family, but you're a literal no one on the internet and I don't have any business explaining myself to you. He'd borrow money from my mom and return it at the first chance, and after he died no one came claiming any debts. My point even wasn't about "omg my family soooo awesomeeee" but that you cannot blame everything on "mental illness" and that you STILL should have some accountability and know when to stop and how you can treat others.
@MyaB19862 жыл бұрын
@@aster2790 we lived in a village near a small town in Eastern Europe and everyone knew who my granpa was. Societies are more tightly knit here and pride is big factor to how the things were done then. He was so embarrassed of gambling and hated it with passion but he couldn't help himself. He'd have periods of abstinence and if he saw us play yatzee he'd freak out, sometimes tossing the dice off the table. He was really sturdy and strict but I saw him on few occasions begging my mom for money to gamble literally kneeling and acting like a biggest wuss in the world. We lived in his house back then and were sure that he'd pawn the house for gambling, or his car but he never did. Even at his weakest he knew when to stop which takes huge amount of restraint. I see people in stream defend this guy with "oh well it's an illness", yes gambling is, but bringing other people into it and treating them like shit is just a garbage human doing, not sickness.

The people making the excuse for him being a "gambling addict" Seem to forget that not only is he a grown man that should know right from wrong but he took money in a calculated way. He picked his targets and asked them not to say anything. He did this knowing that he will be able take money from as many people as possible before getting caught. There might be up to 100 victims... maybe more. And one that we know of is a cancer patient that needed the money. Even throughout all of this he continued to steal. And didn't have any actual plan to pay them all back. Why should I care or anyone else what happens to him after he didn't care what happens to up to 100 people??? Due to his issues and his problems. Why is it okay to forgive him for inflicting pain on up to 100 people 🤔 Sliker should be arrested for this and forgotten. If you think you're being a good person for caring about Sliker... I'd prefer to care about the 100 innocent people that thought they were doing a good thing over 1 person that did a calculated theft on those innocent people

That's something people don't usually think about, it's good to give second chances to people that makes mistakes, but for every second chance given, someone who is actually innocent and never hurt anyone will become a victim of your second chances, this world don't care about victims, victims don't get on the news. People don't do things without getting anything back, unfortunately helping victims don't make news and make you look good on social media, but giving second chances to criminals makes you look like a saint and is news worthy, this world is a joke.

And this is why we lose trust in each other in humanity as a whole, one minority can have such a huge effect on society. And this is a perfect example, one individual acts out of greed, and addiction which then compromises trust within others in the future by taking advantage of others' generosity.

"What part of your mind tells you to think about him and not the other people who have been hurt by him?" This might shock Asmon, who's brain apparently can only think about one thing at a time, but you can think about everyone who's been hurt by him and also him at the same time. You don't have to choose between one or the other, your brain should have the capacity to consider the whole situation.
@ShaggyDabbyDank2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, when a murderer kills 18 people you have the capacity to have empathy for the 18 murder victims and the person who murdered those 18 people. But empathizing with the killer and thinking you’re being a good person, you are being emotionally selfish and putting other peoples lives at risk. Why focus on the perpetrator when you can focus on the victims?

It's apparent that you have never had a gambling addiction to be answering in this manner. As someone who got hooked on gambling for about a year but have quit now, I'll tell you this exact remorseful understanding and coddling attitude and reaction to someone ruining their life and being an absolute loser is exactly the ammo/motivation a gambler needs to continue gambling and convince themselves it isn't that bad. What you actually need to do is call it how it is, tell the person they are a fking loser and idiot wasting their money and time chasing a dream of becoming rich fast that will never come. You have to tell to present them facts and even watch in on them while they gamble and reassure them of how much of an idiot/loser they are there loosing because 95% of the time it's all losses. Have sympathy for these people is motivation and as an x-gambling addict any and I mean ANY excuse you can have to continue gambling is the ammo and motivation people will use to keep gambling. Stop being so soft you aren't helping no one with this attitude and are actually hurting those recovering from this serious addiction.

So I think there is a massive gap between not wanting Slicker to kill himself and defending him or his actions. I think its entirely possible to have empathy for someone whos done wrong but I also agree he shouldn't be allowed to be in a position where this could ever happen again. There has got to be a middle ground where he doesnt end up killing himself but also never gets the chance to scam another innocent.
