Just look into governing dynamics (game theory) and you realize that beacause the number of consumers is vastly bigger than the number of producers, it gets less likely that the consumers come to the same consclusion and act accordingly. This is what is exploited in massively by capitalist companies. there will always be a certain percentage of people that will buy the skin packages, no matter what the cost. And as long as there is no alternative way to buy the skin, they will always have the monopoly and can basically charge you what they want for it. Same thing as ticket master really

I've been playing Valorant for over three years now. My duo and I decided on day 1 that we were not going to spend a penny on this game. We both still use default skins for most guns, and we have free skins (Battle Pass ones) for pistols. The fun in using any skin is only when it is picked from the ground. Once you buy it, the thrill of that skin withers away in a few days. We would rather use the money we save from not buying skins to buy other games. Ghost of Tsushima, World War Z, GTA V, etc.

The reason they can sell them at those prices is that they know their worth. Not necessarily their cost but their worth. You can apply this to basically anything to lower prices down. But it wont happen because they know people will buy it. Its as simple as that. People forget that valorant is a business model and not a movement to make people happy

It’s just crazy because I also play many story games and with that money I could buy so many other things. It’s more like a addiction to buy skins. I was always surprised to see that there were barely any videos talking about the overpriced skins in valorant and no community push-back against the absurd prices. In fact, the community accepted it like the new normal and it sent a message to riot that even if they make a skin bundle with really high prices no one will ever bat an eye. That is why the content is really dry now, no fun game modes like snowball fight, Just different iterations of competitive matches. Still no replay system.

I've been talking about this with my friends and they've all just given up on the fact that it will never change due to how people are gonna buy it regardless of how shitty or expensive the skins are. And honestly implementing the battle pass thing would've been really nice, but if not that, the least they can do is improve the night market system, at least have it come around once a month, or if they can't do that add like at least 12-24 guns ? i was so pissed about my night market this act ( 4 battle pass lookin skins 💀) that i mailed them and they were like, the experience is in waiting for a good night market to come around. I've been playing the game for a little over 2 years now and not ONCE have i had singularity or sentinels of light in my night market. Honestly, i really hope they change this system. 100$+ for a bundle is insane in this economy.

All this reminds me of the situation with Dota 2. For a long time, nothing much changed except for new cosmetic items. However, time passed, and the main tournament (International) was a failure. From that moment on Valve announced that they will continue to improve the game itself, its gameplay and mechanics, not just cosmetics. And as one of the Dota players, I can confidently say that the game has become much better. I wish Valorant would turn in the same direction.

I kept saying this from day 1. Games that have any sort of cash shop tend to not be as good as they could be. In theory i like cash shops esp when the items are fairly priced and they actually make the game itself good and focus on the cash shop 2nd, which sadly never happens. I think its because companies base their success solely on profit without realizing that if they spent more time on making the games better it would eventually lead to more profit. Its alot easier to sell shop items when the game is good. Imo though if things dont change val will continue getting more and more stale while the bundles will continue getting more and more expensive.

I have been hoping for some kind of uprising in the gaming community as a whole and demand these corporations to stop ripping players off on these dumb purchases. I quit playing Valorant a while ago due to all the negative variables adding up and the monetization was one of them. It is the worst one I have ever seen due to the radianite. I thought at first if I bought a skin bundle, I would have all the cool effects and sounds the weapon came with. But it was then that I found out about the radianite and I was so mad about it. Really wish content creators and the player base would just stop screwing around and force the industry to change.

Tencents probably gonna do the opposite and add a gatcha system into the skin packs. Now you can pay 90 dollars or whatever and roll 4 random skins from the set! Gotta incorporate those gambling mechanics somehow.

Not a huge fan of the individual responsibility message being pushed. One person can't change this pattern, which you sorta acknowledge, but it's still your conclusion. It's like telling me to recycle when big corporations are killing the planet. Also, riot is soulless? Idk, maybe it's more like the funny little gun skins fund the rest of the game to be made. Seems like a decent trade off in a late stage capitalist world. Not hate btw, I think this video is very well put together, just don't fully agree on your points being made.

I've only ever bought 3 bundles (2nd one was in hindsight a foolish mistake and the 3rd one is a couple of years ago) and a few battle passes early on, since then I've spent whatever remaining points I had on one night market skin and bought one more skin from the night market. I have yet to see any skins coming out that would urge me to actually buy it, at most I've been excited when picking one up from the ground.

happy that i had control and always asked myself that getting the skin will be worth it or no whenever i felt desperate after seeing my fav gun in shop . Played val for like 2 yr or so ig and just deleted it completely few months back , life is peacefull , while my friends who also cry over the game but also keep coming back to game bcoz they have now put in 200-300 usd into it .
