I completely agree. I have sold like 3000 items so far and lost on exactly 2 items, and both losses were under $1. I think it helps that I, by nature, am not a consumer or a shopper - so impulsive buys do not tempt me. I was a lawyer in my past life, and I confronted this business like I did that career. I think too many people combine their shopping addiction with reselling and that does not work. We only need to buy what we KNOW will sell.

The #1 problem in reselling is over paying for mediocre items. Avoid that and you're ahead of the curve.

I am still learning and have been reselling for less than a year but I struggle finding good items to resell. This year I am getting pickier, but I don’t have connections to buy good items in bulk. I never find Lululemon or a lot of other name brands in any of my thrift stores. I do find Ralph Lauren which I do buy and I am able to travel about 40 miles to thrift. I am really trying to make this work because I do enjoy it. It is so hard to remember name brands when I get to the thrift store. I grab and then go off and look up. I keep trying so thank you for sharing!

Tech, this one really hit home for me today. I recently completely flipped my mindset when sourcing to look for the best items instead of for the lowest price and I found bangers over $100 to $200 profit items each day that paid for everything else I bought so I am not looking back. Been in the group 1 month and already got more in positivity and motivation that I would have paid way more for, so Thank You!

I don’t have the opportunity to drive far or to buy in bulk, or invest hundreds of dollars. At least not yet. But I found my way by learning from KZbin from different resellers with different business models. That’s how I learned that I can do my best by going to this one thrift store and looking thru every single item. There’s a lot of resellers at that store but they are in and out in 20 min, where I’m there 5-6hr once a week. They all passed $1 skirt that I sold for over $400. This skirt didn’t scream nothing special, it was only because I was curious. I used to think that I’m looser if I don’t come early to be the first at the door, but I found my way. This model will probably not work for every location tho. This store is just pretty consistent with getting new inventory and they not greedy.

Man! I feel like you were directly speaking to me. I so needed to hear this. Trying to pivot to clothing only from an everything store and feel like I completely screwed up in January, buying things I "thought" would sell, but ending up with a lot of low end dead wood. I am going to double down and make February my best month ever! Thank you for kicking me in the butt! I needed it!

This is such a comprehensive masterclass in sourcing product and is basically what a high end Antique store would do as displaying all sorts in your store diminishes the value of the more sort after items so they only buy highly curated items that they know sells thus increasing the return in investment .. I guess it’s a change in buying mindset that’s needed it’s made me think anyway as I work my way through my items I have to list. Thank you 🙏

I agree with what your saying about picking up the best items, however I sell used parts on eBay and sometimes I am the first one to bring that part to the market by going on a hunch that someone out there is looking for it. 25% of the parts I sell have no sold comps or none listed.
@technsports2 сағат бұрын
Of course. You have to make your own market on some items. Knowing how/if there will be a market only comes withe experience.

I really needed to hear this. I am sometimes the person looking for the best thing in the $1 bin. NO MORE. I already started leaving behind anything that requires too much research time because I found myself wasting too much time researching items that I was not familiar with. I have been saying to myself, "too much research" and putting the item back. Now I will also be saying to myself "not enough profit" and put it back.

The Y2K category is going to be saturated by the end of Summer. Forever21 and other fast fashion sellers are going to offer competitive prices and more consistent quality and sizes to the market that is interested in wearing that style - and as that satiates the buyer pool, they will spend less on items. Plan accordingly

I call it the broken price. If this item falls and breaks or I find out it’s defective can I still sell it and make money or get at least what I paid for it. I’m always trying to pay the broken price. Example: purchased an iPhone works great. Only worked with wireless charging. Instead of making $80 profit I made $10 with the damaged charging port.
@technsports2 сағат бұрын
I agree. I used to sell a lot of electronics and always made sure to buy at a price I could turn a profit on even if it was broken
