One thing that try to watch out for is where the mower is shooting the grass. 80% of my yards I catch year round but the 20% I don't catch I try to avoid shooting the grass towards buildings and vehicles if I can. If I have to mow one pass in reverse because I don't want a car getting covered in grass (I don't own an OCDC) then I do so. It is one thing that I feel ups the quality of the service provided. It shows to the customer that the lawn service provider cares about the customer and their property. Another thing that helps me out, that is more useful in small town lawn companies, is word of mouth. If you don't need to spend on advertising cost then the money you would have had to spend can now be reinvested into the company to produce a higher quality service. I plan to get a pickup upgrade by next season then maybe in a few years upgrade from a 48 in to a 60 in ztr. I will probably keep the 48 in since it still has its place for tight quarters but the 60 in will increase my production rate by quite a bit. I wish property density was easier in my area but in small towns you don't get the luxury of subdivisions.

I have a rule of thumb for mowers or main equment, purchases that will set you back thousands, if you can’t pay it off in 4-6 months then it’s too expensive 👍

If you can pay it off the day you buy whatever equipment it is then, that way you won't miss a payment at all.

Perfection Lawns i think he meant don’t buy something if you can’t save the cost of the equipment in 4-6 months. If you’re financing it for 24 months at 0% that’s fine as long as you’re able to make what the item cost in 4-6 months. Not trying to come of as rude, have a great day!

Thanks Brian for all that you do for us. I just purchased my first commercial mower last week. It's a 44 inch Proline floating deck. Sure you caught that, they don't make a 44 inch anymore. This one's over ten years old. It ate all my 2019 profits for the mower and new belts. For the size of lawns I cut, under 50" is perfect for smaller in town, 3k square foot lawns. Largest I cut is around 8k square foot. Brings on the question of pricing, Do you have a set square footage price sheet for your business? If so, I've not seen that video. I get tired of looking at lawns and being like, $30 or what have you. Keep up the hard work, it's paying off for you.

Thanks for investing time into us. That zero turn leaves beautiful stripes. If I was to cut it with a different zero turn it mower, would the stripes be the same? Im at push mower level so I'm curious when I go to the big boy league if it's the condition of the lawns that produce a nice after product, the engineering of the mower, combination of both, or just one of these variables. If you can clear this up for me I'd appreciate it Edit: I'm on the fence from cutting with a 21" hrx217 with a big league stripe kit, to a timemaster. I have 1k saved up. However the reviews on cut quality on the timemaster have me stalled. Do I sacrifice cut quality for faster production? Or do I keep grinding for a used 36" zero turn/stander. This is the decision I need some veteran feedback on cuz I'm overthinking. Most of yards are pretty average in size.
@BriansLawnMaintenance5 жыл бұрын
Personally, it just depends on your goals and what you’re trying to accomplish. But I will say, a good used stander could do you a miracle for time and productivity. But that’s if you’re going the business route and trying to expand!

Hey @Brian's Lawn Maintenance! I'm really enjoying your videos and would love some advice on valuation for a bundle of residential accounts. There are several businesses for sale in my area with equipment + anywhere from 30 to 60 accounts included. These yards probably bring in an average of $45 to $50 each per week. What do you think a fair price per yard would be if I were to purchase one of these businesses?

I’m looking to get into the lawn business. Due to I have to deal with seizures which is controlled by medicine (I have the type of seizures where I don’t black out, I can tell when I’m going to have one before the physical evidence appears). So I’ve been looking to do something where I’m not around people. So I figured if I was in the lawn business & have a seizure, I will be able to hop off the mower, wait out the seizure & then get back to work and not have to worry about someone freaking out thinking they will have to call 911.
