We are currently in the biggest tourist hotspot in Laos, taking you guys on a tour of what it is like now in Vang Vieng today post-Covid lockdowns. Vang Vieng used to be one of the biggest tourist destinations in SE Asia, but the pandemic has turned this place completely upside down... This is the current situation here in Vang Vieng and our thoughts on the future of this beautiful piece of abandoned paradise in Laos. Let's hope Laos reopens for tourism soon!

Coming to ten years ago, my wife and I cycled from the iron bridge to the pond, what's it called? The blue lagoon? It was late and it got real dark and we didn't have any lights. Luckily a guy with a tractor and trailer or something came along and we hitched a ride back. We compensated him with some money though. It will be an unforgettable experience. A real pastoral feeling.

It's so quiet. Really devastating. We skipped Vang Vieng as at the time it wasn't quite our vibe. I like to party but prefer to chill and it was bustling before. On return home we're gutted we didn't experience it's unique beauty and is definitely on our list when we return. It's really sad to see, however it'll be nice to see people experience it for it's beauty and nature instead of just being wasted in a bar etc. Lovely to hear the insects in the background at the start! Best wishes, Jane and Mark ❤️

😀 Great to see you traveling again. I have been in Vang Vieng before Covid but not liked that much. Too many people for me. Maybe we should take the chance and visit again. But for now we help the businesses in the south 😀 and enjoying Lao!

The property is springing up in anticipation of the new railway taking Chinese from the big cities. Chinese tend to travel in groups and looking for a luxury short weekend break at the expense of the backpackers but we will see next year when they partly open to tourism

was here in 2012 and was a mental place to visit lucky to get out without too many injuries. I remember the sunset bar and others down by the river were cool to hang out in the evening after a day of tubing. Oh, the memories.

We went to vang vieng in 2007 and it was pretty chill back then. We got to see a wedding in that temple that everyone from town went to. Especially quiet in the day as everyone was out caving or tubing. It was all about the bamboo huts on the river and Friends bars. We were hoping to make it back this year, hopefully soon!

I moved to Vang Vieng in 2007 and staid for 7 years. I used to manage "Pans Place" from 2010 to 2014 during the crazy party years. It was very different than, and to be honest it is now all about money, which to me is not an improvement.

The best time in Vang Vieng was 98, 99, 2000, because it still had an authentic sleepy vibe, with no big resorts and tour groups, and before the party scene exploded. Also mushrooms & wacky-backy were totally accepted. The hot spring pool and the Buddha cave were a chill place for backpackers to hang out.

It’s a great place, while you are there, pop into Bearlin bungalows, they are owned by a lovely couple, they are located across the main bridge south of the old small bridge that’s gone. You go over the bridge then head out towards the blue lagoon it on the right about 1 km out of the town once you are over the bridge. Keep up the great vlogs and have fun 🤩

Lab leaked virus has secondary benefit of clearing out SEA tourist destinations to pave the way for big casino/resort development, just in time for the Boten-Vientiane. Hope you guys enjoyed the twilight age of western tourism in Laos.

Thanks for the update on VV. The last time I was there was in Nov 2019 and the place had already changed significantly from my first visit in 2013. It was already more developed, busier and catering to mainstream Asian tour groups. Looing ahead, with the advent of the new high-speed train line, I can only see the place getting more developed and busier. But TBH, aside from the nice scenery, there's much better locations in Laos to go if you're looking for some real adventure. My favourite area is Khammouane Province, which is caving and rock climbing central in Laos. The mainstream Asian tour groups will go to VV, because it's easy to get to. Khammouane is not, thankfully.
@TravelsonToast
@TravelsonToast 2 жыл бұрын
yes this is all true, we agree Khammouane is a great area and not as visited by tourists, same kind of scenery too.

The problem with Laos is that they don't have industries like manufacturing products for foreign markets. They are too dependent on tourists to make income. What happens when there are no tourists or the economy is bad? How do you survive? Lao people never think about the long term financial life. They only think about short term part.
