Fun fact: LBJ loved his Cricket so much, that he ordered and gave away 200 Crickets as presents to dignitaries while he was US president. He used the alarm to get out of boring meetings frequently. Cheers.

My dad bought a Vulcain Cricket in 1948 while stationed in Singapore, he was a navigator on Sunderland flying boats and would wear it all the time .He passed it on to me in 1964 when I was eight and I wore it until it stopped in the mid nineties . It was never a dress watch but a tool to wake us up in the morning , it got the nick name of the dying fly which is what the alarm sounds like if you let it wind down .
@stuartdavies7351Ай бұрын
It fair to say WIS Forum communities have always talked about the Cricket in the same vein as an Airman or a Spaceview. They are all iconic pieces and important parts of horological history. It’s great to see the brand back up and running again, and doing their own history proud.

This is a very cool watch that appeals to me. I will be turning 60 this month, born in 64 and growing up in the 70's I've seen what we call today, vintage watches in the 60 year olders at that time, and this is really reminiscent of those. So cool. The Bell Canto is a bit bulky, but this is flat being hand winding. I don't have the 3 thousand to spare now, but understand the ones who will. Thanks for the historic perspective on this brand.

I found out about the Vulcain Cricket from a 1999 Wired magazine article about watch collecting by William Gibson. I bought a circa-1956 Cricket from a New Zealand collector in 2007. I love that watch.

Crickets are awesome, but verrrry expensive. I came across a vintage 60’s cricket for $150 in a recent estate sale, but unfortunately I balked on it and lost it. I did come home with a 70’s GP gold filled gyromatic with the original box though

I love the MWC channel along with several similar shows, but I'm starting to have trouble accepting these reviews when the watch is gifted to the reviewer, and then not returned or given away. And if in this case the only negative mentioned is the price (for a watch that costs a reviewer nothing) followed by a long rationalisation, it's a bit hard to take the review seriously. Plenty of other channels operate in a similar manner, so I'm not singling MWC out, but I just wish these reviews were for watches bought with the reviewer's own money (or a loan watch), and only then reviewed after some real time on wrist.
