After playing for so long and reading on lore, this is a very sad game. None of that is real. The basements, monsters, none of it. Isaac is escaping into his own mind, making up such things to leave from the abuse and malice of the real world. With the father leaving and the death of siblings, his mother became cruel and unforgiving, but Isaac doesn’t know that. He’s a child, he can’t understand why his mother abuses him and hurts him, so he turns to the Bible for answers and thinks he is a sinner who can not be helped or forgiven. Stricken with grief and pain, he hides in his toy chest, where he lives out the fantasy of becoming a hero, but locks himself in and dies. The player starting a game is him reliving the world he has made.

My god, I have played this game for like 5 days or something like that, and I CAN'T stop playing this. Everytime I close my eyes, I see The Binding of Isaac. If you haven't gotten The Binding of Isaac yet, buy it, because it's fucking addicting, and because the rooms are randomly generated, you don't have to worry about repeated playing.

The creator has gone on record that this is not the case. He described the religion being more of a 'catalyst' rather than an actual cause. As you can see the story of his mother trying to kill him didn't actually happen. These are drawings Isaac drew. His reading of the bible has influenced his imaginary world. Though you are right that this game is heavily symbolic, but it's less about religion and more about isolation, detachment from reality, and imagination. A theme present in a lot of Edmund's games I'd like to add.

Actually, the analogy does work. You can add spices, and flavorings to the meat. But at it's core, it's still just ham. The same thing you've been chewing on forever. It might look better, and it might have a few new tastes, or a slightly different texture, but it's still same at the core. You're just adding a few more things. And you're wrong about everything looking the same. The further you get into the game, the floors begin to look diverse. Not to mention every room is randomly generated.

Well Steam is an online game provider, where you pay for a game and then download it via Steam. Most of the games don't require those long codes you often have to type in, when installing a new game. Also it doesn't require CD's and you can install the games as often as you want on as many computers as you want as the games are linked to your specific profile. Why are you all debating this using ONE ending as proof? There are thirteen of them. In one of them, Isaac looks in the mirror, sees he legitimately is a monster, and kills himself. In one, his mother kills him. In another, a Bible falls on her head and she dies. The game is purposely left vague.

Actually Issac get's (SPOILER) by an angel in the end. His mother is supposed to be told by god to kill him. The angel could be a rouge angel, also known as Satan, before he was... well... Satan. So yeah, Satan saved Issac, GO SATAN!

After watching this result multiple times, I actually find this kinda funny, mainly from the result being an NES game at heart, yet if this was actually made back then, it would never be as well received as today. As for the church, i haven't been in it for 7 years, but when i did go to confess, i said to the priest about the corruption in the church, he just replied "i know, just do what you gotta do, every one will be judged individually, if the priest is a bad man, he wont get his reward" ... yeah God doesn't punish you, he just doesn't give you the reward that was promised, if you a bad person. But i bet there are more ways to reach the all Might, not only Christianism. so i respect others choices.

Don't know. I enjoyed so much playing Mc' Millans Gish. Still consider it one of the best games i've played. Got disappointed when i found that there won't be a sequel. Than i playead Supermeatboy? liked the music? the cartoons between the chapters. Today i spent half a day playing Binding of Isacc. Kind of freaky. i got to the Mother boss and heard her shouting Isaaac!!!- i got so scared and deleted the game from my PC. The game is based on the biblical account known as The Binding of Issac, which would explain the religious undertones. In the bible, it told of Abraham being told by God to sacrifice his only son Issac. But at the moment he was to kill him, an angel told him gos had been testing him and Abraham had proven his loyalty.
