Please go to the next Redbull Flugtag event and absolutely DOMINATE it! What a gorgeous glider! I wonder how much flying in ground effect played into this long distance

It wouldn't qualify - the max wingspan for Flugtag is 10 meters (33feet) I think. This craft has such a good glide angle because of its super high aspect ratio (ratio of wingspan to wing chord), and excellent design of course.
What is the glide ratio of that machine? Phenomenal to go over 500m from only the height of that platform!

The Platform is 10m from the water. So the glide ratio is 53.3!

Oh thought the hard landing at the end was a piloting error - it looked like he'd pulled back a bit too hard and caught the tail in the water - making his flight shorter. But after the replay we can see it was a genius move! He was going to hit the pole and managed to mostly take the force out of the impact!

Incredible performance. So little power could maintain it aloft. Unfortunately, it’s a one shot trial, then it turns into waste 😢
There is a similar competition in Japan, but the planes that flew there flew 1750 feet.

from "Miracle on the Hudson", "pull up, pull up, pull up" alarm warning as jet lands safely in the New York Hudson river after bird strike damages both engines. I marvel at the material science to make such a light glider as well as the design. What a wonderful contest.
Uvítal by som zostrih týchto súťaží za posledných 20-30 rokov. Ten prízemný efekt bol úžsaný.

seems like it has a sensor probe on top, pitot tube/wind direction? hmm

wow, impressive! can someone PLEASE post the glide ratio that they achived in this flight? I'm guessing that the launch height is 20 meters and the distance flown was 533 meters? So converted to feet ; a 1750 foot long glide from a 60 foot high launch works out to be about a 29 to 1 glide
