True Crime: Streets Of LA was one of the most ludicrous games I've ever played. It starts off as a GTA clone where killing civilians gets you put on a "Bad" track, while acting like a goody goody brings you to a "Good" ending. The thing is that about 75% of the way though the game everything suddenly shifted wildly and this grounded cop mystery whiplashes into a ghost story. Then the final boss (who we had never actually seen before) crawls out of the wreck of an airplane, loudly announces "I am the General of North Korea," and then fights the protagonist in hand-to-hand combat. It makes absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL. It makes less sense than the original Prey. It's almost worth playing just to see the insanity.

The Last Chapter Episode 1, allows you to drive without a timer, so it sorta becomes an open free-roam open world GTA kinda game like Driver 2, and i used to drive for hours visiting certain destinations within the game. The length of time the amount of driving just to get to a certain point on the map is insane for a video game, and not it a good way. This can be considered a real life driving simulator in my opinion. The driving on the highway, driving on city streets, traffic signs. It becomes boring after while since it cannot compare to GTA regarding interactivity. GTA is superior obviously, but the driving is quite enjoyable. Once San Andreas got ported to the OG XBOX, I put this game away and forgot about it. Due to this video, I plan to finally finish True Crime: Streets of LA. Never made it past The Last Chapter Episode 1 due to what I just previously mentioned. Driving is quite enjoyable once you get used to the controls sorta.

Kakuto Chojin almost certainly influenced the development of Halo 2 later. As when that game was in development "The Arbiter" was originally called "The Dervish". Almost all pre-release material surrounding the game called him that and there have been rumors of manuals of the game printed mentioning it. The files of the game actually still refer to him as Dervish. However right before release Microsoft told them to change it due to Dervish being a potentially sacred Islamic term which they did.

That's also interesting because Guild Wars: Nightfall, released in 2006, has a whole playable class called the Dervish. It's set in a North-African-inspired country, and the Dervish class is a holy warrior that wields a scythe. I'm unaware of any controversy regarding their usage of the term.

9:38 so if I'm correct and all of the mentioned games that used it are the same from the one I'm thinking, all of them come from the sample CD Best Service Voice Spectral Volume 1, with the chants being track 76. For reference, this CD came out in 1995, so it was new when Ocarina of Time was in development. The idea was that you'd buy these CD packs and you'd get the rights to use these sounds in your songs. How did those chants get in the CD? No idea. But some composers tend to keep libraries for a long time. For example Super Mario 3D World uses instruments that were used all the way back in Super Mario 64. Maybe some of those composers kept the CD for so many years unknowing of the issues of that track. And as a bonus fact, the "Bah" sounds in Super Mario 64 and the New Super Mario Bros series come from Voice Spectral! Track 52 and 53 if I'm correct

I played Kakuto Chojin a lot as a kid, but not the actual full version. It was featured on an Xbox demo disc along with a bunch of other games (the most prominent feature being Vexx). The infamous song from this game is the theme for the character Asad, who is the main figure on the box art. They didn't just feature the chant in his song (like how OoT did with the Fire Temple theme). They basically made an intense drum & bass remix of the chant. It has a wailing guitar solo. It's nuts.

Note on the Microsoft employee sticker: any current full time Microsoft employee (or intern, which is why I even know about this) can lookup people in the company directory. I only remember looking up people by name or alias (a unique, human readable ID that was some combo of your first and last names), but I'm sure you could probably lookup by employee ID too - so Nick, if you happen to know any current Microsoft employees, they may be able to lookup that ID for you. It seemed to me that Microsoft doesn't reuse IDs, since I interned there twice and got a different ID, alias and email each time. It'd be interesting to see if the person whose ID is on that game still works there too - I only resold the games I bought from the company store that had my ID stamped on them when I knew I wasn't going to work there again and had no reason to worry about being punished. They also were really weird about us reselling the electronics we got for free from the internship (shit that I also ended up reselling lol).

i got a copy of this game in a bulk collection of games, the meme of the gun was the first thing that came to mind when i saw the boxart. I had no idea it was the Original image lol!

My father worked for a company that did work with Microsoft and he was able to buy games from them prior to release of the game. Games with that sticker are marked that way because they weren't available for retail sale yet. My father purchased most of the launch titles for the Xbox original before the console had even launched. This included crimson skies, halo ce, project Gotham racing, and odd world Munch's Oddysee they're not super rare in anyway since often they were offered at a discount to Microsoft employees and their contractors, but they are unique for the way they were distributed. That game was in that person's hand prior to any controversy or recall! They got it before the public! :)

Son of a gun, I literally saw that games box at a Goodwill today, but it had some other game inside it, so I didn't pay it any mind! AHHHH

Hey, at least it had a game. My local Goodwill got rid of their games section because people would always steal the discs out of them. 9 times out of 10 you would open the case and there is no disc at all. Find anything good ?

@@Gatorade69 Nah, not really, IIRC I thinl there was some Sims game, but the rest were just Sports games and other bargin bin games. Oh! there was a Dance Dance Revolution Wii game there,

@@CasualGamerDude Last time at Goodwill I didn't find anything but the time before that I found a like new Wii, 2 Nunchucks and a Wii zapper attachment. I also found some ram, 32gb Corsair DDR4 3200mhz brand new in the box for 5$ and it's in my PC currently. It was the perfect upgrade to my PC. Still can't believe I found that. The old people's thrift store in my town is actually better sometimes. I consistently find better games, blurays and comic books there. Though they are mostly sports titles, unfortunately. Now that I think about it I'm going to town tomorrow. Maybe I should see if I can find anything good at Goodwill. Hope you have better luck next time too.

True Crime is a really fun game from what I remember. In 2004, when I lived in Maryland for a year, my mom was at this boarding house. And someone there had an Xbox with True Crime Streets of LA, and I LOVED that game (since at the time I was playing a lot of Vice City as well). I loved it so much that I ended up getting a used True Crime Streets Of NY for PS2 from Game Crazy the next year when I moved back home. I knew that gun reminded me of something, but I didn't know it was just straight up from the box art of True Crime

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a piece of stock art that they simply set to greyscale. It sorta looks out of place with the rest of the cover art.

I love this mini series, these are things you notice on an old nintendo ds game that you can't talk about with anyone, so seeing you do this with videogames that have a insane interesting story remembers me that I will be a geek forever. The last game I had something similar with is Driver San Francisco, I was introduced to this game when I was 12 by my best friend and immediately thought that it's amazing, so when this game was in the collection of games that I bought with a ps3 from ebay I was really happy, I played it immediately and was fascinated by the story, unlike before where I only knew the mechanics. A few years later you made this video about it that showed the same love I have for this game. Thanks for your amazing content, I'm waiting excited for your knew japan content. For now, have a lot of fun in Japan. 💙
