In short: Be the aggressor and impose your will. Over the years, Ive noticed how this works even in training. When you constantly put your opponent on the defensive, its very hard for them to beat you. Just like when you notice your opponent is constantly putting you on the defensive, that feeling you get of the struggle and how hard it is to turn the tide and submit them. Theres an ebb and flow to jiu-jitsu, just like there is in other sports like tennis. The mental aspect is very big. You have to convince yourself you are going to win, even if it makes no logical sense, lol.

That's a good point, the other mindset i believe is the predator, they are like one and the opponent is a prey who can fight but at some point they will dominate them and finish.

If someone goes mad aggressive to me I instantly have the idea I’m gonna win because I know they try cover their stesss or their inability to fight a long match

Mental is just as important as conditioning, as you say, but in my opinion if you're not physically and technically on point then you won't do a convincing job of spooking your opponent at the start of the match. A lot of white belts are going to watch this and absolutely gas themselves out in 15 seconds in their next competition.

Confidence, for sure. That's how you win a lot of things. However, you will need to be able to either back it up, or have credibility upfront. Otherwise you're just being reckless and your opponent will use that as soon as they realise.

Love this tip. But a question: What mentality should you train with? Should you attack your training partners so you compete like you train?
