I'm built like Marcelo but I can't trap the arms with my legs like him
@beno343 жыл бұрын
I think you need to come around the side a bit more. Turn the corner a bit. That will make the angle easier for your leg. If you are too square behind them it’s hard.
@goku-pops79183 жыл бұрын
@@beno34 I get you but then it feels I'm losing the angle of my bottom hook that keep the control
@beno343 жыл бұрын
@@goku-pops7918 if you can turn enough, you should be able to hook his opposite hip with your hook. So your foot would be pretty much same position as if you were going to lock the body triangle, but instead just hook his hip our outside quad. This will keep you in control and free your top leg to trap arm.

You just explained why Garcia is thought to be the best. It's because he didn't use his muscles or his flexibility or his size. He used technique and smart decisions. Lately gordon Ryan beats everyone but he is huge and muscular. Who has to be better technically?
@kofiadugyan1693 жыл бұрын
I like Marcelo more as a person and competitor but lol Marcelo was incredibly athletic when he was younger. Gordon doesn't have impressive strength, speed, or flexibility and he even admits it. The man gets by by being one of the best technicians in the world with a great mind for the sport.
@JustinColletti3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m one of the biggest Marcelo fans you’ll find, but in addition to Marcelo’s masterful technique the reality is that he is also naturally athletic to an amazing degree. He has an incredible amount of explosive power that is probably largely genetic and is the kind of thing that sadly, can’t really be trained. He never needed to do much conventional strength training because he is so naturally explosive, fast and agile. The man just has remarkable powerful legs that can propel him and drive him with amazing force and speed. Gordon Ryan, while bigger, is much less athletic. Sure, he looks all muscular, and he is... but that’s because he needs to strength train to make up for his natural relative lack of athleticism and explosive power. So Ryan he intentionally developed decent isometric strength, which can be trained to a much greater degree than plyometric explosive force. Don’t get it twisted, as great as Marcelo is, Gordon is an amazing technician with an incredibly varied game and a profoundly deep understanding of jiu jitsu. He basically has a 50 year old elite jiu jitsu trainer’s brain downloaded into a 25 year old’s body. He needs to be a technician, and he needs to strength train so much, because he’s just not athletically gifted to the degree Marcelo is. His greatest strength is probably his analytical mind, his competitive nature, and his insane work ethic.
@KaninTuzi2 жыл бұрын
Gordon is not even especially muscular for his weight class, but he is technically superior to all his competitors. Marcelo got enough strength and conditioning from rolling, why does he need more than enough? John Brzenk, all time greatest arm wrestler, doesn't advocate weight training, but rather just arm wrestle more. Same could apply to wrestling and grappling.

Bernardo didn't get to watch Royler Gracie vs Noboru Asahi.....Is this just a generation gap or indicating BJJ /MMA parting away?
