Damnatio for better or worse represents justice. Hence why he said if it came to it he would come after Julius. He does an excellent job representing how unwavering justice can seem like evil at times.

But that trial wasn't unwavering justice but it was a politically motivated trial where blame was shifted to save nobles.

To late fans, or to the channel, just as a late explanation. The judge either had to convict asta or convict the magic knights, otherwise the entire kingdom would be in danger. Due to the presence of the demon, if there isn’t a proper justification, someone needs to take the fall or they face extermination.

Fuegoleon was such a disappointment in this episode. Couldve been a good guy by coming in and telling the truth, fighting the judge to the death, saving the kingdom, etc. Instead he sided with the Gestapo.
