Great work Colin. Editing was fantastic. Narration top-notch. Research very informative. I knew about the Mongols being responsible for spreading it to Europe but didn’t know that the Arabs were able to contain and treat it or the Tiber being used as a cemetery or that it is because of Casimir III that Poland ended up with the largest Jewish population in Europe. This could start another series on this channel about the various plagues across history. You could next do a show on the 1906 Bubonic Plague outbreak in San Francisco. Not many people know about it and I bet it’ll be hit.

Thank you for the references. This is always an excellent topic for discussion such as the Great Fire of London, September 2-5, 1666. Things that make you juuuust wonder. (that's another story) 5:08 was an excellent point because in the middle ages, one was worth the class they were born in and that one little condition had a MAJOR impact on socioeconomics. This was very well researched and not another ordinary plague presentation. I am a pupil of funeral studies, so the middle eastern aspects is a new exploration for me. SYNCHRONICITY ‼️‼️‼️ I was literally just reading the Annie Jacobson book: First Platoon. It mentioned the connection to plague epidemics of the 1600s giving birth to the surveillance state. Under the guise of containment, quarantine was mandated and a government official was placed in every village to monitor the peasants. Movement was prohibited and only the governments sentries were allowed to walk the streets. State sanctioned food rations, tracking people... Government infringement for the "greater good" was the message. This reminded me of current events - appears as though the old playbook is still being used 👀🤔👀 Also, the surveillance state of the plague has parallels to the panopticon/prison a century later, which had the goal of psychological obedience. Points to ponder people... Those with eyes to see, ears to hear, brains to think.

12:48 the purpose of flogging one self in those days was to take on suffering and mortification for the sick and souls who’ve died. One can offer their suffering up to God, uniting their suffering with Christs in prayer. The concept still exists today, but not self inflicted. If one becomes ill, bad headache, sprain an ankle, that pain can be united with Christ on his cross and offered up as a sacrifice in either prayer for others, souls, or penance for one’s sins.

Fleas and rats both reproduce quickly and often. Therefore there were lots of rats everywhere and plenty of fleas to go along with them. Plus no proper sanitation back then , no plumbing so bathing wasn’t an option for poor people, who made up the majority of the population at the time. Filth and unsanitary conditions will attract rats and their fleas and other pests too making it very easy to come into contact with humans. And it did.

Hard to see so much death.... Id like to think that everyone's stream of conciousness has some unique fruit to bear, or some special influence to invoke on someone else whom, may in their turn, change the course of events in the more visible and obvious ways that we like to see and, inspire hope in the future and the continuance of our species. This is not a rational thought, but one that helps to steady resolve when maintained struggle seems to be in vain. I cant imagine all these deaths were so considerate of timing as to allow the bearing of fruit by each individual plant of conciousness before being snuffed out of existence.
