Quick question. I know that black holes will all eventually die. But, what if, you build those giant mirrors around the black hole and start bouncing gamma rays around. Could you keep on feeding the black hole in such a way that you perfectly counter-act the affects of Hawking Radiation, causing the black hole to last forever, or as long as you keep on feeding it and getting back your energy?
@vsauce6664
@vsauce6664 5 жыл бұрын
@@almondpotato9483 I think it would stop the loss of mass for a while (trillions of years), but eventually slowing down the black hole's angular momentum, thus the energy supply for the black hole dissappears and the black hole will lose mass like nothing happened.
@Somerandom1922

I just thought of some horrifying ways of making weapons out of black holes... Want to sterilize a perfect swath of planets of life perhaps to collect resources? Instead of detonating your mirror let it build to close to detonation then direct all the energy output into a single direction, ideally with minimal spread.... There is now a wave of death equivalent to a tactical quasar going wherever you want... Also you could use this combined with concentrating mirrors on the other end to create a kuggelblitz (probably... I dunno) and feed it a few asteroids to prevent it from immediately decaying... Then send it on to a star of choice, now you have a new spinning black hole to work this... While you're at it, if you're feeling mean, rather than just sterilizing a planet with light, generate the kuggelblitz on the surface and remove all traces of the planet. Finally for a more conventional attack, instead of shooting light, shoot a giant asteroid at the planet which thanks to your spinning black hole is now going a significant fraction of the speed of light and will completely end life on the planet but this time they may be able to have warning but not be able to stop it

describing a handgranade but the outer shell made of tissue paper. fizzzzz.. over.. no bang. same goes for your mirror around the black hole. also good luck trying to get a mirror around a black hole. everyone fears the event horizon because you cant get out of that anymore.. no the event horizon is the point even light doesnt escape.. but for humans or robots in spaceships the point of no escape is way way furtehr off than then event horizon. so stating a black hole is smaller then a star so the mirror is smaller then a dysonsphere is fantasy.

🤔 So given that, that means the singularity is 1) not the true center of the black hole and 2) is a thing that either moves in a circle or its shape is distorted by the black hole's spin. What's that singularity made of? Squashed information or particles maybe? Squashed light?

If black holes spin, then the size of the core of the black hole can be calculated based on it's rotational speed if the rotational speed of it's star was known Therefore the singularity of a black hole cannot be infinitely small or have zero surface area, most likely the core would be a disc of matter rather than a ring

well, we cant really know. and as other studies concluded, the circunstances behind a blackhole are so extreme it create mathematical absurdities and pretty much ignore all laws of physics we have defined. if theres something with an infinite and a true zero in this universe it might be related to these things.

abloogywoogywoo I wonder why? Is something incorrect? Is it the way they present the facts? Well, it's meant to be simple, they are still called "Kurzgesagt-In a nutshell" not "Langegesagt-In detail".

@ljr2000, because its all fantasy. You have more chance of building a "world engine"... a propulsion system that can move the very Earth, situated in the core of our planet... than building a Dyson Sphere around a Black Hole. It can't be done. Even if you could magic up the resources, the nearest singularity is thousands of light years away from us, we can't get there.

@@miritallstag336 no I think it's mostly time; if you were to go into the ergosphere, time would slow way down for you, take Interstellar: 1 hour on Miller's planet equals 7 years on earth, meaning if 2 alien species were to emerge at the same time, but one of the planets gravity is stronger, the other one would be able to progress faster and win if they fight. Maybe if we pass the time filter, the supernova bombs would be the next filter

@@Reaping_Matster sorry to get your hopes down but planets gravity isnt that variable enough to create such large scale time dilation. the difference of time is very small, even between two bodies containing largely differing amounts of gravitational force. very fun idea tho
