Quick question. I know that black holes will all eventually die. But, what if, you build those giant mirrors around the black hole and start bouncing gamma rays around. Could you keep on feeding the black hole in such a way that you perfectly counter-act the affects of Hawking Radiation, causing the black hole to last forever, or as long as you keep on feeding it and getting back your energy?
@vsauce6664
@vsauce6664 5 жыл бұрын
@@almondpotato9483 I think it would stop the loss of mass for a while (trillions of years), but eventually slowing down the black hole's angular momentum, thus the energy supply for the black hole dissappears and the black hole will lose mass like nothing happened.

I just thought of some horrifying ways of making weapons out of black holes... Want to sterilize a perfect swath of planets of life perhaps to collect resources? Instead of detonating your mirror let it build to close to detonation then direct all the energy output into a single direction, ideally with minimal spread.... There is now a wave of death equivalent to a tactical quasar going wherever you want... Also you could use this combined with concentrating mirrors on the other end to create a kuggelblitz (probably... I dunno) and feed it a few asteroids to prevent it from immediately decaying... Then send it on to a star of choice, now you have a new spinning black hole to work this... While you're at it, if you're feeling mean, rather than just sterilizing a planet with light, generate the kuggelblitz on the surface and remove all traces of the planet. Finally for a more conventional attack, instead of shooting light, shoot a giant asteroid at the planet which thanks to your spinning black hole is now going a significant fraction of the speed of light and will completely end life on the planet but this time they may be able to have warning but not be able to stop it

If black holes spin, then the size of the core of the black hole can be calculated based on it's rotational speed if the rotational speed of it's star was known Therefore the singularity of a black hole cannot be infinitely small or have zero surface area, most likely the core would be a disc of matter rather than a ring

@@miritallstag336 no I think it's mostly time; if you were to go into the ergosphere, time would slow way down for you, take Interstellar: 1 hour on Miller's planet equals 7 years on earth, meaning if 2 alien species were to emerge at the same time, but one of the planets gravity is stronger, the other one would be able to progress faster and win if they fight. Maybe if we pass the time filter, the supernova bombs would be the next filter

Wouldn’t the “bomb” imply that the mirror was made out of an imaginary, nearly invincible material that reflects 100% of the energy that touches it and wouldn’t just melt or break in a less climactic way? Like what the heck would be strong enough to resist the steady buildup to supernova-level energy without failing long before that level was reached?
@bigsmall246

Because we can't make a material that reflects 100% of light. Even absorbing 0.00000000000001% of the light means the mirror will heat up and melt/explode when the EM waves in the cavity are too intense.
