I dont quite get why though..? the duck is mostly water and lighter elements so if those same atomes turn to gold how come they are suddenly too close to each other..?
@markinipannini2 жыл бұрын
@yak B. because most stuff in our body is made from molecules, but when each atom turns into a gold atom the molecules fall apart releasing some energy and also gold atoms which are initially as close to each other as original atoms in the molecule were, are now much larger so they get violently pushed apart? I have no idea how they calculated what the energy of that explosion would be though...
@yakb.76902 жыл бұрын
@@markinipannini I read up on it now and not quite.. its just that gold atoms are much much larger than most of the atoms in the duck (water, helium) so if each of them swells up there is suddenly much less space available between the atoms. Now GOld is naturally denser than water but gold atoms are so much larger that it becomes too dense even for gold. Thats what threw me off originally

Why is the water turning into gold in the thumbnail-
@Abigail-hu5wf3 жыл бұрын
In the original myth, when Midas touched his daughter she turned to gold. Midas prayed to God to relieve him of his foolish wish, and he instructed Midas to take his daughter and wash her in the river. She came alive again and his curse was lifted. The water itself is just a symbol of the cleansing power of God, while the myth is specifically about the hubris of wishing for great wealth without regard for consequence. Water doesn't have magic powers in the story, it's all about God giving and taking away - the water is just symbolism, like the rest of it.

If people are wondering how the third example can have liquid water despite the planet being lethally hot, its because at higher pressures water will remain liquid at higher temperatures than normal, and same thing with the reverse, lower pressures will have water boil at lower temperatures than normal. Mars is an example of the latter, which is why water will boil on Mars despite not reaching the normal boiling point of water. So, Golden Earth V3 is hot enough for no life to survive, but not hot enough to pass the boiling point threshold of that high pressure.

Plus water's specific heat is much higher than air's- there probably wouldn't be enough energy in the atmosphere to boil away even a lot of the water. Specific heat of water is 4x air at STP, and there is something like a thousand times as much mass in the oceans as in the atmosphere.

@@kokucat well, if air molecules count to be converted to gold, the entire air inside the Earth's atmosphere would turn gold, encasing everything in. People have air inside them, so they would have all of the air inside them turn into gold, which would probably damage the organs, make the person extremely heavy, and leave them with no air. The best place to be during that would be underwater and praying the golden atmosphere doesn't fall on you. Probably other funky stuff would happen both to the Earth and to humans but I'm not a scientist, so I wouldn't know. So yeah, Midas better stay dead or have no curse stuff.

Other possibility: since air isn't a solid, the Midas touch only works on the air molecules that Midas touches directly. That means as soon as the curse starts, gold dust starts to trickle down from every body part that's cursed. If Midas' whole body surface has this property, he'll die in a few minutes from asphyxiation since he's only breathing gold dust.
