serge was going to win period. he was way more massive and ripped then what we saw in 75, he was more then 218. they (ifbb) saw him and told him he could NOT COMPETE because he was involved in porn which was a LIE. he immediately stoked his diet lost weight. he was contacted a day before and said he could compete. it should be noted that serge claimed natty (documented) and also, trained every day, only ate one meal at night. it was rumored that he was posiend by his reletives over money. r.i.p. serge

eyebemurkinbammas read allot on serge, also he had a MAJOR Q and A on the bodybuilding forums, he ate allot of HORSE meat in one sitting along with rice and beans, he ate that 1 meal at night and it was huge. he also did 10 sets of 10 with low rest in between sets. dont know why he claimed natty but he did, he also did no cardio because his workout routines were so intense that would be his cardio. Leroy Colbert goes on to say that he did take steroids, I dont know. its also good to note that sege was like a VP FOR THE euopean ifbb. and he has a fall out with joe and Ben wieder. he was well awear of what was happening with the "mass monsters" and hated it, said they look like "freaks." try to imagine serge guys so we know we are thinking of him in the afterlife, he was INSANE LOOKING I REPETE INSANE! MADE ARNOLD LOOK LIKE A BOY.

More facts about Serge Nubret: Born in Guadalupe, but lived in Paris most of his life. He was known for his super-wide shoulders, exceptional traps, massive cut arms, and a very high (upper pec) development. His waist was small with outstanding ab development. Although he had great mass and symmetry in his lower body, his calves were comparitively 'light'. In the gym, he was famous for very long workouts. He had a system (which was coined the Nubret Pro Rep method by Robert Kennedy of MuscleMag International magazine) in which he would perform multiple sets with the same weight. And each succeeding set, he would strive to do more reps. For example, his bench press would look like this: after sufficient warmup, he would do 275 x12/275 x 14/275 x 15/275 x 18/275 x 20. And so on with all his exercises. Although Nubret was quite powerful (he benched over 500), he worked out with weights that were well within his capability. It was a very smart way of doing intensity (increasing reps rather than weight) because Nubret was never injured from bodybuilding. And when he dieted, he went all out on the low carb end. He admitted that, close to a contest, he would doze off between sets. Yes, Ben Weider and the IFBB discovered that Nubret made a 'soft' porn movie that was shown in adult theaters in Europe. In South Africa, it was decided that he be banned from the IFBB for one year. However, to avoid any embarrasment from an angered Nubret (especially since Pumping Iron was being filmed) he was allowed to compete in the '75 O. During his one year suspension, he jumped the IFBB ship by competing (and winning) in a European contest from another federation. In addition, he created his own bodybuilding federation based in France. Because of that, the IFBB saw that as desertion, and banned Nubret for life.

I met him at Delhi airport about just under 17 years ago. He was huge and he acomplied by a male and a female bodybuilders I noticed them first the guy had shredded muscular forearms and the girl although petite had a back that flared out. I recognised and worked out who he was as fan of Pumping iron. I approached him and told him that he was great in the film. He gave me an autograph and the thing that stuck with me how big his hands were and how nice he was. Really cool to have met him and connected with bodybuilding history.

Overall pure bodybuilding and excluding personality. Serge Nubret is hands down my favorite. He also had my favorite chest in bodybuilding. I remember him being mentioned in Flex magazine in top ten best chest and talking about his chest looking so well proportioned like work of art. Never seem to get the recognition he deserved considering he had some of the best aesthetics in bodybuilding history. I know everyone has there own genetics and you can never truly try to look like a certain bodybuilder. However he still is the standard for me on how I would like my physique to look like.

From Serge himself 1975 Mr. Olympia, I was 200 lbs. and Arnold was 220 lbs. But 12 days prior to the contest, I was 212 lbs. When I arrived in South Africa for the 1975 Olympia, this was my condition. I was told I could not compete. The reason given for not allowing me to compete was that I was accused of doing a so-called porn film and therefore did not represent bodybuilding in a respectable manner. I have done 25 films in my acting career--none of which are porn films. I was so disappointed, I stopped training and eating for 12 days and lost 12 pounds. When my drop in weight and spirit was noticeable to everyone, I was allowed in the last minute to compete on the day of the contest. That's why I was not in my best condition the day of the contest.

The fiasco you were talking about in which he was blown off 12 days out of the Olympia was because he starred in a movie in which there was erotic content. they used that as an excuse and told him he couldn't compete in the Olympia that year. Being devasted by that news he didnt train and ate badly for weeks. just before the competition started he was contacted again and was told that yes, he could compete. He came in lighter obviously, but still, imho looked better than arnold. Also noteworthy is that up until his death he was very active on bodybuilding.com and answered alot of questions. Also, his death is considered suspicious as he believed himself he might have been 'poisoned' by his own family. not too sure if that is just an anecdote, but I believe he spoke about it. Good content as Always Nick! keep it up.

Serge is my second favorite bodybuilder. When I first saw Pumping Iron I thought he looked incredible and placed 2nd because he was black, but after a long time of comparing I think all the placings were fair. Serge was more striated than Lou. Arnold was more striated than both of them but had the 22" arms, full calves, thick flowing back. Serge just didn't stand a chance against that trifecta. Otherwise I think he had killer abs and a great chest and traps.
