When he says, “ This is nowhere near the end of Eugene’s story.” is freaking wild! Because, even at that moment, Eugene had lived such an incredibly accomplished life and we’re not even close to the end of what he accomplishes???? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

The germans were singing "silent night" and the french and British (catholics and Christians) heard the music and was moved enough to start singing to the lord as well, after a minute heads started popping up from the trenches, one man jumped up and made himself a large target and nobody fired... white flags were raised on both sides and the men met in "no man's land"

Yep. And because they were actually at war just because their countries were allies with 2 other countries that declared war on each other there wasn't any where near the animosity of when the Nazis invaded 30 years later.

Lord of the Rings is a perfect trilogy of movies. I binge watch the entire trilogy (extended cuts obviously) every year. Aragorn is...He just is. He's the ultimate example of genuine masculinity. Also some truly awesome stories came out of filming it. At one point his actor kicked a helmet and broke bones in his foot, and the scream he did after it was...real. And in the first movie, there's this bit where a dagger gets thrown at him, it was supposed to miss but it went straight at his face, and without missing a beat he swings his sword up and just shatters the dagger, it's incredible. ...Also holy shit Eugene Bullard was one of the most amazing men ever. The first black combat pilot and that's one of the shortest and least interesting parts of his life story, absolute legend.

If you're gonna watch LOTR then watch the extended editions they're the best way to watch the series. LOTR is one of the best cinematic experiences you can have epic scale good fun and genuine love for the material they were adapting.

As to your question of if I could participate in the Christmas truce I think it's important to remember that they had only been at war for 4 months at that point and until that point Europe was just coming out of its most peaceful, prosperous, and modern century to date .There had been a few notable wars since Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo 99 years before but mostly the European people had become more interconnected especially in the late 19th early 20th century and so a lot of those guys would have traveled and perhaps studied in each others nations prior to the war , knew people from the other countries and at that point in 1914 the hatred and horror really hadn't set in yet and many of not most of them still really had no concept of what was to come and so it was pretty easy to call a Christmas truce and play a football match with people who were very familiar with each other. That sentiment would fade quickly and it's telling that the Christmas truce wasn't repeated again in either world war.

May I say when the fat electrician said “kite with an engine” isn’t far off from describing ww1 planes they were basically a wooden frame covered in fabric that has something on it to strengthen it with an engine and a few guns and that’s it. Also if you want a movie suggestion that’s time period is set in ww1 I recommend 1917 (it’s not a true story but I’ve watched some of it and it’s a good movie) also if you want a more modern warfare based movie check out “black hawk down” it’s a great movie from what I hear. it’s based on the incident by the same name in the 90’s

What you have to remember about the Christmas truce in WW1 is that both France and Germany are in this war due to be allies with someone else, more or less a proxy war. Austria-Hungry declared war on Serbia, Germany is allied with Austria-Hungry, Russia are allies of Serbia, France and Great Britain are allies of Russia so they all go to war with each other because of someone else declaring war. So there wasn't anywhere near the animosity that there was in the second world war against the Nazis. Great reaction brother. You got a sub from me.🤘🫡

You do also need to calculate though that most likely what he was paid in by the Germans was german marks and in Scotland they don't use German marks like that as their main currency Im pretty sure they've always been pounds but because of trade all currency was interchangeable so he could be making more or less based on the economy of the country

After the fat electricians video i actually read the book on Eugene. Hands down probably in my top 3 books that i read. and i get why he kinda scimmed over some details because he's trying to sum some some of the stories. but i kinda wish he would add just a little more detail. for example. he didnt just decide to become a boxer. he wanted to because there was an incident where he was working for a family before he went on a ship and he made probably the most money he had in his life so he got a new suit and while walking some dude bumped into him and cut his leg with a razor. basically cutting his new expensive pants and ruining them. so he wanted to learn how to fight because of incidents like that and he was tired of being a victim.

Personally I can't say whether or not I'd participate in a holiday truce in the middle of war, I mean, yea there's gotta be some animosity of people who've killed each other's friends, but after enough fighting anyone can realize that regardless of where or why the fight started, or how or who started it, the soldiers on the field are humans nonetheless, the man or woman in the opposite trench has a home and a life just as we do in this trench, the same way they've both got a trench and a side and country to fight for. So, in the end, is it the bodies that separate us, or the minds that occupy them

Do I think that I would take part in a truce Christmas celebration with enemy soldiers? I would like to think that I would, but the American military has zero chill on Christmas, and if I was in the military we probably wouldn't. The Fat Electrician has a short video that is under 5 minutes long talking about some of the things the American military did on or around Christmas.
