Her constant betrayals of Red grew to a point where it was too much. She consistently made terrible decisions, constantly putting herself in danger by going against Red for no reason, even after he saved her life, (multiple times) protected her, and supported her at every turn. She immediately trusts her super sketchy spy mother, who wasn’t even her real mother, who clearly had ulterior motives, and only wanted to take Red down.

IT really was..... the first few years, the show was appointment viewing, because of Spader. I think the show went on a few seasons to long. Most great shows, lose steam after about 4 years -- this would have been good to go for maybe 7 or 8.

James Spader seemed to make it his show, but it never was completely. Reddington had only one goal, he did everything for one single reason solely: Liz. I am a Redarina Believer, so Red as her mother had no more reason to live after her death. And the show had no more real reason to exist. I enjoyed Season 9 and 10 etherway, but honestly: it was over when Liz left.

She is, I am pretty sure, the only character in any form of media who's emotional death made me actually laugh out loud. Like, a villainous chuckle, that turned into a full on open mouthed laugh. No death was ever more satisfying, because she was LITERALLY 1/3 of the reason that anything ever went wrong in Reddington's life. Our the life of anyone around her, to be honest.

The Blacklist in general is a somewhat poorly written show, that suffers from the typical "milking" syndrome that alot of generic american tv-series have (and other typical tv-show tropes), where it becomes blatantly clear the writers have no true vision of where they want to take the story, and are just "winging it", making up shit as they go along and stretch it out as much as possible. The only thing this show has going for it is Spader's charisma as Reddington, and they were fairly good at setting up conspiracy mysteries and dramas with interesting villains but on the flip side these conspiracy plots never live up to the hype and kinda end up as wet farts, and most villains are offed in the same episode they are introduced, even overarching villains like Berlin end up being very dissapointing. a villain with a great set up, only for the plot to flop around the place like a fish for several episodes without going anywhere, and then eventually Berlin is killed off after revealing the entire rivalry was just an "ooopsie" mistake and his daughter wasn't even dead. by the time i had reached season 4 i was already fed up, and no matter how much i enjoyed watching Reddington on screen, it was not going to make me continue watching this show where they are stretching out the same plot through a billion attempts of subverting expectations over and over again.

She was one of if the not the worst written character I have ever seen on a show I absolutely love. She was the worst FBI profile ever. She was wrong about everything at almost every turn. Rewatching the show she becomes almost insufferable with her inability to use her supposed psychological training to find the truth about anyone who is trying to game her and just believes and buys into what anyone tells her about a past the never mattered to her. She was literally the biggest threat to herself and everyone around her. In actuality Red was always there to save her from herself. I was so happy when they finally killed off this useless and idiotic character.

Waited for 8 seasons to see Liz get killed - now I feel happy. Liz was wooden, unlovable and left no impetus to feel anything positive for her. Every time she appeared on the screen, I felt immediately bored. The only other cast member that bored me more was Tom Keen. Funny how many people share the same opinion on the character of Liz, disliking her for her behaviour... But it really broke my heart that she had to die... Sometimes I also disliked her but the last 2 episodes of season 8, with her learning the truth, brought a satisfying resolution in my opinion... Liz was a terrible FBI agent and almost got killed a million times. she tried to get away from Red a million times and in the last season she was sick of him and more focused on killing off taking down red. She was a nobody before and hasn't done much since, maybe she just wanted to start a family or do something else. the ratings by the 8th season were not great so maybe they planned to reboot for the last 2 seasons with a different director.

Season 9 is so far one of the best in several years, due in no small part to the loss of Liz. I watched from the beginning for Reddington, and grew to quickly love Dembe. In recent years, Harold and Aram have also endeared themselves to me. My wife hated the Liz character so much that it would drive her wild if she was even on screen when she walked by. Funny enough, the only other character I personally ever hated on the show was her husband Tom.

i also was more of a fan of Reddington/Dembe. i think they really missed a chance towards the end when Red was kidnapped by the bad guys and Dembe went on a very lukewarm warpath to rescue him. i think that was a chance to transform Dembe in to a JackBauer-like avenging angel of destruction. afterwards Dembe could have gone back to mild mannered gentle dembe.

Thrilled that Liz is gone. I felt she brought shallowness to the show. They tried to make it seem like everyone was obsessed with her and willing to do anything for her, but why would they? She was nothing great or special and it wasn't believable in the slightest that they all obsessed over her. It just gave a weird vibe. No complaints about anything else though. Love the depth of the rest of the characters.

People in the comments being so rude about liz and championing red, look I get it but red wouldn’t be red without liz it was their dynamic that was the plot, her death is a great plot point too and yes I agree she majorly fucked up before her death and derailed a lot of what red did to protect her but that’s our perception as the audience, liz herself was just desperately trying to figure out who she is, who her father is, why her husband died, it’s completely understandable that she went Guantanamo on red, because she just didn’t know, much to the fault of red, if he had just told her a smidge more about who she was and who he was maybe her death could have been avoided. Her character will not be missed by most because of her change at the end but that doesn’t mean we should completely dismiss the beauty of her that red fought so hard to protect.

Good grief - so much negativity! Frankly, I loved the show - start to finish. Granted, there were 'uncomfortable' episodes and same for some of the mini plotlines, but it was all part of the story as a whole. While some details remained sketchy even after the finale, I believed James Spader's Red WAS Liz' real father - despite not being present in her life as a dad, and that her mother was long gone. Whether she died, was imprisoned with no hope of seeing the light of day, or chose to disappear to save her own butt remains a mystery. (Though I confess, I wondered if the suitcase bones belonged to Liz' mother.) The relationship between Red and Liz' maternal grandfather left me with little question as to her parentage. And if that wasn't sufficient, Dembe's subtle - yet persistent - urgings for Red to reveal to her who he really is because "she deserves to know" AND Cooper's reference to Red as Agnes' grandparent in the final episode cleared it up for me. I laugh every time someone suggests Red was her mother: can you just imagine how many surgeries THAT would have entailed??! Let's take this tiny woman and surgically transform her into a behemoth of a man - right! 🤣 And let's not forget that Kaplan was in love with Katarina - not Red - despite her loyalty. Of course, we DO learn that her loyalty was really to Liz, which is why I would have bought a storyline where Liz did NOT die in Season 8, but that Kaplan either taught Liz the ins & outs of disappearing, or she wasn't dead either and actually helped her disappear. They (writers) COULD have brought her back with a different actress - having had surgery to change facial features (far more believable that Katarina morphing into Red), changing or settling on an acceptable resolution to her ridiculous hair dilemma (why they didn't accept Boone with a pixie is beyond me since she was cute enough with that 'do'), and creating a sufficient backstory to explain her whereabouts during her absence. Remember that remote island Red owned - where he provided safe refuge for Samar? Kaplan could have been similarly armed. That said, it didn't take long for me to accrue more than my share of 'Lizannoyance' but that's because my personal views on loyalty are more like Heddie's ride-or-die level of grit - and I confess, I was 100% charmed by Red from the very start.

Sorry but I stopped liking the character many seasons ago. Much of it may have been the writers use of Liz. For too long it's been The Liz show, and I NEVER liked her that well. When Mr. Kaplan was killed off because she betrayed Red for Liz I started to realllllly not like the character or the writing. If Mr. Kaplan had to go, there were much better ways to do it. Actually I'm glad to see Liz gone.

It was good script writing for Elizabeth to die. She had betrayed Red many times and wanting to know his secrets had put them both in danger too many times. Her actions led her to her death. If Elizabeth had killed Red to replace him that would have been too cliche...For one, NO ONE could! Raymond Reddington is not replaceable. Greatness is not made but born. The character that must beat all odds is Reddington or its just bad writing. Elizabeth got a great death...An important exit for any actress to add to their resume. She wont be forgotten. The Blacklist IS sooo well written. It's SMART. I love that. I hope they find a way for Red to live. You don't kill off a legend THAT, would be BAD writing! It would be like killing off Superman. Reddington MUST always WIN! He must be that rare smart man that's never beaten, and always gets back up. As I said in another of my messages here, I lost all interest after Liz's death because I was surprised, she disappeared and she never learned all the secrets from Raymond. I read that many of you were happy that he won't be in the next season or the ones after that if there are any. You have probably not understood that almost all the episodes have been set back in the life of the character Liz trying to finally learn her past, who isnt his mother, if is alive, her father and much more. We saw this in every episode, trying in every way to learn. Of course, this series has to do with Raymond and the hunt for the villain and the terrorist. But in each episode there was a new case, what was always the same was Liz's passion to learn the truth, which ultimately did not happen and for me personally the series ended with her death. Something similar had happened in another series that I was watching and it left many questions with the ignominious ending it had, I am referring to the Lost series. I expressed my opinion and I respect yours.

I just have to say that while I didn't always find Liz' character enjoyable to watch, that takes nothing away from Megan Boone the actress that played her. She did as directed and her character came off just as the shows writers, directors and producers wanted. I have watched the series at least twice and I know with the show being such a success, the folks in control were obviously satisfied with the way Keen was portrayed. It's always amazing to me when actors get confused by the fans with the characters they play. The other thing is, she was ment/written/directed to be the way she was and that made her the perfect character to dislike. Maybe because the actress got so much negative feedback, killing off the character was the plan all along. Easiest outcome. JMHO 😊

By killing Liz, the show has robbed us of that final "aha" moment that could have retextualized the ENTIRE show. Even if they reveal it now, because Liz's dead, it no longer has any value, because the charater who is effected by it is dead. I mean now it just feels like the showrunners are trying to milk the show dry ontill the execs pull the plug. 1st look at how Liz get's killed off: the bodyguard of the season 8 villian shows up alone and shoots Liz in the back right as she was about to kill Red and learn his real identity, before Red kills Liz's killer. Not only does this rob us of the "aha" moment I was just talking about, but having the killer be someone is only given screen time in 1 season is just really lame. And now season 9 comes in and "oh no" it turns out that Liz's killer wasn't working alone and so we spend the entire season watching our heroes trying to ID the mastermind eventhough we - the audience - have already correctly deduced who it is and are just waiting ontill the heroes are back on our level. Then when our heroes have FINALY figured it out, the villian get's caught in with in 2 episodes and ends up killing himself, thus allowing the status quo to remain unaltered. Now look at what the showrunners have set up for season 10. Before season 9's villian kills himself, he meets an inmate who was arrested, because of the task force. Lawyer man gives him a list of every villian that te taskforce have arrested and before the season ends, the inmate escapes prison, but instead of leaving the US, he tells the driver take him to several prisons. This mean only 1 thing: season 10 is going to have recycled content.

After waiting two years since Covid to see Season 8 on Netflix I must admit that I’m very disappointed. How can a silly girl outwit a mastermind like Red? He can outmatch any other criminal and be one step ahead, yet she can steal his money and escape from him? I’m glad if she’s out of the show. Her character is irritating and very selfish. I’m now able to take breaks from watching the new season because it’s lost some of its excitement and nail biting scenes.
