I definitely prefer Ricketts as a lead character because it was people like Ricketts that inspired John and Arthur to be gunslingers and Jack loved reading books and stories about characters like him. If Jack is the author of the whole story, it would make a lot of sense that Ricketts acts as a prologue to the gang before Jack really remembered much.

This idea sounds amazing! But I think you could easily split it into 2 games, with Jack, Sadie, and Charlie being a separate game possibly setting up issues with WWI and potentially having Jack inlisted and then returning home to find a completely changed America with virtually no references to the Old West outside his old penny-dreadfuls and nostalgia. You could even end with Jack as an older Bounty Hunter tracking down the outlaws like Bonnie and Clyde, referencing how he grew up with men who weren't so different and how times have changed and how the new breed of criminals seem ruthless (but really aren't much different, it's just Jack's age) and end with a similar vibe to Tommy Lee Jones' character in No Country For Old Men.

Christopher O'Neil The “peak of Wild West” happened in Landon’s life time. I do have a feeling that Ricketts can have a connection with Harlow and have it fit. (Though Harlow teaching Sadie to become a Bounty Hunter is a bit more obscure). I don’t think R* will ever remake it since imo, it follows the 3D and HD format. That being said, Harlow and the stories do exist in the world but I feel there’s gonna be more to it! Harlow’s voice actor is still at Rockstar, and voices one of the main FIB agents in GTA V! Always room for his return.

This video is old but it’s brilliant. The first infamous actually had a similar system. If cole goes the hero route, random NPC’s will actually encourage you and cheer for you, and the cops will help you. If you choose the infamous route, the NPC’s will throw rocks at you, boo you, and the cops will shoot at you once your reputation gets bad enough.

There are some characters (like Dutch) who work better as NPS’s and side characters rather than the character your play as because you get to see their development and no conflict with player choice and outcome. You get to watch them grow in the third person. Dutch is such a strong character in red dead 2, can you imagine the game if you played as him? Wouldn’t have the same effect.

Exactly, hence why Landon Ricketts is the perfect choice that Rockstar obviously set up. He is a reflection of John, it's very obvious. John and Arthur look up to Landon Ricketts and his stories... Rockstar intentionally had Arthur also make reference of Landon highly: "I ain't no Landon Ricketts." for a reason. VERY convenient he's on his own adventure further West (while they added map to the East) while the events of RDR2 take place. Ricketts' is leaving West while Dutch and the gang run East from Blackwater at the SAME TIME, at least if you take Milton executing Mac Callandar as the trigger point for LR's exited from Texas.

Red Dead Redemption 3 should be the story of Landon Ricketts. With a young Landon Ricketts, seeing his journey through the west in its prime, his shootout against the Butcher Brother, him being a lawman and the fastest gunslinger in the west, story of his wife, maybe even having some sort of altercation or confrontations with Ross and Milton, hearing about a Van Der Linde gang, with main storyline ending with the Blackwater Massacre in his perspective finally witnessing what went down. Epilogue 1: Traumatized by the events of Blackwater, Ricketts starts questioning his stay in the country. Maybe his wife dies. Epilogue 2: Him moving to Mexico and becoming the the vigilante living a "quiet" life. Epilogue 3: a great cameo by RDR1 John Marston, as Marston and Ricketts say their farewells at the boarder as John needs to head back to Mexico to find Javier Escuella. A scene in 1914 shows an aged Landon Ricketts hearing about the death of Marston, saw a young man who looks like him, narrating his life, says his story is done, finally shutting his eyes before he goes to sleep. The true moment when The West died.

Damn. I really wanted to play as young dutch, but this actually sounds way more interesting. I would love to play as a young Landon Ricketts, during the time of the actual wild west. Maybe even starting during the 1870s. Not sure exactly how old Landon was during RDR, but he had to of been in his mid to late 60s. I'd actually like to see it start out during the 1860s. Supposedly the wild west era began then. I just want to see a Red Dead game that's set way before the 1st, and 2nd game. Both the 1st, and 2nd aren't set that far apart. Even if they want to tell young Dutch's story, I want to see it set way before RDRII.

Yes, me too. I would love it if RDR3 is set in a much earlier time period. Like post-Civil War through the 1880s, before the downfall of the Wild West. Landon Ricketts appears to be in his mid to late 60s in 1, so assuming a third game takes place in the 1870s or 1880s, that would put him between 20 and 30 years old. I would also love it if the epilogue starts with Blackwater, but later (according to lore), Ricketts retired to Mexico after another big gunfight in 1902.

This is a brilliant idea for Red Dead Redemption 3. It would, in my opinion, make it the greatest video game trilogy of all time. The cyclical nature of the narrative would be poetically brilliant, and a brilliant expression of the Western Genre. As you pointed out: starting as John in RDR1, only to play as Jack in it's epilogue; then starting as Arthur in RDR2, only to play as John in it's epilogue; to start as Landon in RDR3, only to play as Jack in it's epilogue - but going by "Fake First Name" Ricketts would be poetic. It rhymes. There's also something romantic about playing as Landon in the third installment. In RDR2, Arthur was the motivation for John to escape; and achieved his redemption in that act, propelling us into the eventual events of RDR1. Consider Landon as a motivation for John getting him to face the end in RDR1. John refused Arthur's advice, "Revenge is a fools game," - which is his tragic act. He destroys his family to get revenge for Arthur, and sets him on his path to meeting Landon before the end. Your ideas of having us play as Ricketts with us parting with John would only further reenforce a sense of guilt in the man. Seeing Jack Marston, a boy with such potential becoming a vile outlaw, and knowing he had some involvement (albeit, indirectly) in setting Jack on his path: Landon's redemption would be saving Jack from continuing on his life as an outlaw, and inspires him to become the writer of these stories. Jack actually takes the advice from Landon, contrasting his difference from his father. But alas, Jack does take revenge, maybe - in his old age, he experiences his own tragic end. Your ideas for Jack's end is great. Maybe evoke the death of Michael Corleone. Jack dies as an old man, fishing alone by a river, but only after he finishes reading the first publication of the Red Dead Redemption book - which drops in the river and floats away. The end game roaming is actually a "limbo", between life and death, state in which Jack is forever cursed to roam the West in a world he no longer belongs. The next generation console capabilities may be able to fully maximize the amount of computational power a game like this would require. Or do the Mac Callander for RDR3 and give this amazing generation spanning game its' own deserved title. Red Dead Revival.

The paper also stated that with his passing, another piece of the Old West was lost.” You can scrap the old age/limbo idea I mentioned for the epilogue, and just have Jack visit Ricketts before he passes a week before Jack goes to take his revenge for his father. Then the epilogue would be around the same point as in the epilogue of RDR1. Ricketts initially talks him out of revenge, but when Ricketts dies a week later; Jack decides to give in and then goes to the, “Remember my Family” mission. Landon Ricketts can still be, and IMO should be, the next character you play as in RDR for the third instalment. Thank you for your criticism, but what was your point in commenting this? I don't think you'll play as Ricketts though, if RDR keeps tradition where the MC dies at the end. Suspect you play as another Van der Linde gang member, probably when the Gang is in its prime just leading up to Blackwater. And you'll play as Arthur in the Epilogue of RDR 3.

this is such an awesome video!! thank you for going so in-depth!! i don't think r* would be as game to completely expand the map as far as they would - it depends what they could add on to the already amazingly-established states in RDR2. it would be cool to see a brand-new Saint Denis, and the other towns only just starting to grow, but aside from that there's really not much else to add in terms of extra game content (if RDR3 is to be similar to RDR2 in terms of collectibles, etc). so maybe it will be the case of having West Elizabeth, but instead have the border stop at WE and keep the RDR map but expand into California? that way they can add legendary animals, more endemic life, etc to the world of RDR and remaster the original map and settlements (i would absolutely love to go into a remastered Mexico!!). it is a great idea for the story though, to follow ricketts through his life, particularly because he is established as such an important character. the epilogues as jack would make sense, and of course meeting with the old gang members would be bittersweet - everything arthur, john and co. ever did was to ensure jack never lived the life they did, so to follow jack and see his downfall but eventual redemption with the help of sadie, charles (and mentions of the other gang members who are still alive) in his adult life would be beautifully poetic, and a fantastic way to end the story and universe of red dead as a whole. one thing i always considered for RDR3 is that dutch should be the protag. we go right back in time - we see the meeting with hosea, and the slow formation of the gang. including everyone's meeting stories, up until blackwater. the only issue is though that the blackwater massacre holds such weight to it in the red dead universe, and showing it happening step by step would lead to possible disappointment and take away from the ambiguity of the series. so maybe RDR3 can stop before the ferry robbery, and then sail smoothly into the events of RDR2 - it's a thought, and the red dead stories are so good at ambuguity, to the point it's almost frustrating how much we know, yet how little we know. so it would be fitting and poetic if we never see the massacre - it will live on in legend, both in game and out of it. in terms of who ratted to the pinkertons - i think micah was always the rat, iirc dutch met him in a bar before blackwater - it definitely ties in with micah's character and what he does over the course of RDR2. it would be cool to see more of micah, perhaps he becomes involved with milton and ricketts? i cannot get over how perfect this series is - r* has done a banger of a job in establishing the world and everything within it, and the fact that we can always have these in-depth discussions is incredible. r* have created a legacy with the red dead stories, particularly since RDR2 has been toted as one of the best stories ever told in the video game industry. which, let's be honest, it probably is! i absolutely love discussing the deeper meaning of red dead and seeing everyone's opinions regarding what things mean and where it can go from here. i guess we'll just have to wait and see what r* does in the future!!! hopefully they stop focusing on gta and start focusing on rdr/rdo more lol
